Late updates:
I have not been posting because life has gotten busy but some important bee things happened this weekend so it is definitely time to update.
It has been raining so so much lately. Because of this... I do think I was slacking a bit in my bee keeper responsibilities and I have learned the hard way not to let that happen again π
Yesterday M came over to check the bees with me and we did a mite check on both colonies. The RiverDale colony had 4 mites (out of 300 bees). I have decided I am not taking any honey from either colony this year so we put in an Apigaurd tray. In the RiverVale colony however, there were SO MANY mites. Not even worth counting, it was just way too many no matter what. Luckily, still no signs of disease. So M showed me how to do an OA vaporization on them to knock that population down. Next week I will check them again and probably add an Apigaurd tray for them too.
The biggest news is that sometime over the last week, the RiverVale hive has obviously swarmed π€¦ββοΈ
I am disappointed in myself for letting this happen. I know how important it is to be mindful of that, especially in an urban area. M assured me it happens to everyone. And now I have a better understanding of just how quickly something like that can happen if I'm not being careful.
So, bon voyage to queen Veronica, hoping her and her colony all the best - hopefully some other beekeeper caught them quickly...
And introducing to the RiverVale Hive, queen Abigail Blossom πΈ
