Since I have returned back to Dubai from London, I have been using the METRO quite often rather than a car. It has been the best mode of transport to get around the city. It keeps me in fit shape and accepts a variety of nationalities coming in and out of those carriages.
The best part of the metro is the special allocated carriages just for women that you don’t see on the London Tubes. Across the few years, that I have been back, I have started to observe and experience what women do when they wait for their next stop in the metro.
So, I decided to collect those moments into a list here for all to see:
Before I start my list of what I have seen, thought I would mention a few metro rules in Dubai. If these are not followed then one can get a fine. Please see the rules below:
No sleeping
No eating
No sitting allowed without a Gold card pass
Can you resonate yourself with any of these women?:
Are you the one who…
– …offers her seat to the elderly or pregnant person for a good deed?
– …offers to accept a job interview from a stranger who they randomly met on the carriage?
– …ffers to accept an interview from a stranger who they randomly met on the carriage just a few minutes ago?
– …pretends to be in some sort of pain just to get a seat?
– …stares on the metro map the whole way as if it will show her, her future?
– …squeezes fiver people on a two seater allocated space?
– …swings around the middle pole using it as a fun tool between two friends?
– …takes lots of selfies on her own and moans every time the photo wasn’t perfect enough?
– …turns her head left and right out of boredom and to see where the grass is greener?
– …can’t stop laughing or crying as she though of something memorable?
– …tries to impersonate another nationality rather than your own. For example, an English woman wearing an Abaya or an Arabic woman wearing torn jeans?
– …calls her boss just to say she is running late to work today by making an excuse for a fake delayed metro?
– …suddenly jumps out of her seat to run towards the doors before they closed in order to escape from the metro just in time.
– …has her own entertainment by eve dropping in other people’s conversations?
– …helps and assists others if they are lost to where they would like to go to?
– …feels guilty when having her pram in the metro and has to keep on saying excuse me to allow people to let her pass by?
– …is often playing candy crush games or scrolling to see what other friends are doing through facebook or instagram?
– …cups her hand over the bottom part of the phone in order to allow the other person on the other end of the phone call to hear her properly?
– …glad she is of the favourable gender because she can notice the men carriages being very crowded?
– …can turn a frown into an instant smile to return a polite hello smile to another?
– …escapes into her own imaginary world when reading an interesting storybook?
– …secretly takes small bites from her purse into her mouth too satisfy those cravings, while also making sure she never gets caught?
– …sits in the gold cabin and runs through to the silver cabin quickly to avoid getting a fine when the officer starts checking the cards?
– …pretends NOT to notice the person next to her by avoiding eye contact?
– …snores sound effects and music waves away?
– …shoos the men who come accidentally into a ladies compartment?
– …constantly fixes her self up, applies make up and does her hair through the metro glasses?
– …taps her foot to some music she is listening to and having some fun doing it?
I am sure we can come up with more observations about how women pass their time while waiting for their next stop but I think for now, these are enough.
Let us see if we can grow this list of observations with your experiences that you have been surprised by! I look forward to hearing some of them!
