Jameson is an ENTP, without a doubt!
The ENTP cognitive stack has Ne (Extraverted Intuition) as its dominant function and Ti (Introverted Thinking) as its auxiliary function.
Ne is intuition directed outward. Its way of processing information consists of exploring possibilities. Instead of focusing only on what is immediately apparent, it looks for what could be there, connects seemingly unrelated ideas, and considers different interpretations of the same situation.
For this reason, people who use dominant Ne tend to approach problems in a non-linear way. Instead of stopping at the first plausible solution, they expand the field and consider numerous different hypotheses and perspectives. Ne wants to explore as many possibilities as possible before narrowing the field and reaching a conclusion.
We can see this in Jameson, including in the way he solves riddles. When he faces a problem, he tends to look at the bigger picture. He often hears Tobias's words telling him to look at the web of possibilities branching out from every piece of information. And that's essentially how Jameson's mind works. He also tries to anticipate what might happen, but he does so while keeping several possible scenarios open at the same time.
This is where a substantial difference emerges between him and Avery and Grayson, who use Ni. Ni tends to narrow down possibilities and identify the scenario that seems most likely or significant, following a more convergent trajectory. Ne, on the other hand, tends to keep the field open for longer.
You can see this very clearly in his povs, where his reasoning is often portrayed as an actual web of possibilities that he has to scan through. It's also evident in some of the riddles. In the key riddle, for example, Jameson manages to beat Grayson precisely because he doesn't focus exclusively on the detail that seems most important. He considers the key as a whole and all the possibilities connected to it, until he realizes that the solution isn't in the key's decorations, as Grayson had assumed, but in the locks. Grayson had focused on one specific element; Jameson had maintained a broader view of the problem.
The ENTP's second function is Ti. If Ne opens up the field of possibilities, Ti selects and analyzes them based on their internal consistency. Ti isn't satisfied with a solution simply because it seems to work or because it is considered objectively valid. It wants to understand why it works and whether the reasoning behind it is logically coherent to them.
This is another area where he contrasts with Te, which characterizes Grayson. (Yes, ENTP and ENTJ have almost completely opposite cognitive functions. Hilarious, right?)
Te tends to look for verifiable data, concrete results, and solutions that are efficient and objectively effective in the external world. Ti, on the other hand, is more interested in building and testing an internally coherent logical system.
This is why Ne and Ti together explain Jameson's way of thinking so well. Ne generates and expands possibilities, while Ti analyzes them and subjects them to logic. First, Jameson opens up the field, considers every possible interpretation, looks for connections, and imagines different scenarios. Then he uses Ti to determine which of those possibilities actually makes sense.
And, generally speaking, ENTP are also characteristically exactly like Jamie.
They're often curious, unconventional, lively, and mentally restless. They need intellectual stimulation and tend to lose interest when something becomes too predictable, repetitive, or devoid of possibilities to explore.
They're also often provocative because they enjoy challenging ideas. They're often described as playing devil's advocate. They contradict someone even when they partly agree with them, or deliberately looking for the weak point in an argument. For them, a discussion can be interesting precisely because it allows them to explore an idea from a different perspective.
Jameson loves being provocative. He enjoys teasing people, testing them, and seeing how they react (just like Rohan who shares the same MBTI).
Another very typical ENTP trait is their relationship with risk and excitement. They're easily drawn to things that are new, unpredictable, or difficult. That doesn't mean every ENTP is necessarily reckless, but they often have a fairly low tolerance for boredom and seek out experiences that make them feel stimulated.
Jameson is practically an extreme example of this trait. The more dangerous, complicated, or impossible a situation is, the more interesting it becomes to him. An impossible riddle doesn't discourage him instead it draws him in.
Another important characteristic is that ENTP can come across as confident, sarcastic, witty, and extremely self-assured, even when they're internally much more complicated than they let on.
