I am now 6 weeks. This past week has been crazy. I feel like the whole I’m pregnancy part has sunk in more, partly due to my symptoms.
Up until Wednesday, I hadn’t really felt much, I felt more tired, hungrier for savoury foods, put off my sweet foods. But ultimately okay. But Wednesday morning I woke up with a really bad belly and feeling sick. I managed to just about get through the day, I didn’t go into the office, I cancelled all my meetings, and just did the bare minimum for work while lead on the sofa. That night was hell. I didn’t sleep at all. I was breathing quickly I had my head over the bowl, I felt like death. About 2 am Bob woke up and took me downstairs, I started being sick and was for every 20 or so minutes, eventually we called 111 and they gave us an out of hours GP appointment which we had to travel an hour for. The GP gave me anti sickness and said he felt it was a tummy bug because pregnancy makes your immune system low. We got home, I was sick about two more times and then have not been sick since. Now I feel like it is just pregnancy nausea. I did have some spotting, I had brown old blood followed by some fresh blood when I wiped. But the midwives said where I had been throwing up so much, it likely irritated the cervics and caused the bleed.
I haven’t really cracked it yet. I wake up feeling sick, nothing feels appetising, I’ve been having one or two ritz crackers to start, then today I attempted a cheese toastie, something I had for lunch yesterday and actually felt able to stomach. But this morning, the smell of the toast, I ate just over half before I had to stop, then I felt rough for several more hours. I attempted to do the food shop with Bob, he had to turn around and drop me home so I could lie down. I find after lunch I get a period of feeling ravenous, everything sounds great, I want all the food. But if I don’t eat the food, by dinner time I start feeling sick again, and for the rest of the evening too. I’ve been going to bed about 8 every night to sleep through the worst of it.
I don’t feel as much like death as I did the Wednesday, but it’s still unpleasant and uncomfortable. I am aiming to be back to work tomorrow. I only have one meeting, at 9:30. I think my goal is to try and stomach some water and fruit, maybe some apple, and if I need to do my meeting from bed, I will. At least I know i haven’t actually been sick for several days now. For office days, I will go in if I feel able. I still have some anti sickness meds, which I will take if I need to. I am just worried because I am half way through the first trimester, and I haven’t reached the peak hormone levels and symptoms yet. I really hope it doesn’t get much worse. I can handle tiredness, I just don’t want the sickness getting worse.
There aren’t really any helpful foods either, crackers are dry and hard to swallow, cannot stand the smell of toast, I’ve had diarylee on some bread but that’s hit or miss. It’s like I want food, but nothing sounds good. But my goal tomorrow is eat when I want to eat. If I need to eat my dinner at 3pm,I will. I think the trouble is if it’s not a conventional dinner time, I make myself wait. I cannot wait.
I’m seeing it as get through August. September will start to be better, and soon I’ll be nearing 20 weeks, feeling baby kick, eating my stew, Halloween movie on and fire lit looking back on this like it was a fever dream.
I also have my booking appointment in a week, then my private scan the week after, then after that I’m off for 8 days. I am worried about the booking appointment, but also a bit excited to get it out the way. It’s the appointment where they take the most blood in one go, I just need to get through it. But the midwife sounded lovely, she said she will have me lead down, and bobs coming too. It’s the first big pregnancy step really.
Praying this is as bad as it gets.
