Voices of Realities Past
A/N: Here it is, ch 1 of my 20-year-old baby. The original versions of the first two chapters were posted on FFN back in 2006, but I didn't like them or the ending I abandoned so close to completion, so it has been rewritten in its entirety.
Fic posted on fanfiction.net >here<.
Fic Teaser: Tai knew that the eight of them would all be needed to defeat the last remaining Dark Master. A leader had to be strong and decisive if he wanted to protect those he cared about, but he also had to have faith in those who had fought beside him from the beginning.
Matt knew he should help fight—he'd been "chosen", after all. But between his crippling self-doubt and the ominous dreams plaguing his sleep, the right thing to do seemed more and more uncertain.
Piedmon waited for them all atop Spiral Mountain, anticipation and a menacing grin on his face.
Chapter 1
What? Just what—what happened? This isn't right... You... I trusted you! I trusted you, and you let this happen! ________________________________________
Matt awoke to find the hard ground beneath him cold and damp with early morning dew as a chill wind blew over him, causing him to shiver. Weariness still clinging to every inch of his body, the idea of burrowing into Gabumon's fur and going back to sleep should have seemed tempting. But as had been the case ever since he'd left the group to seek his own answers, sleep had once again brought more anxiety than comfort.
It didn't matter if it was a short nap or a night's rest—the dreams always seemed to find him.
He could never really remember them. There were voices filled with confusion and sadness, but upon waking, only the emotions remained, emotions so intense they left his body feeling drained and mind lethargic.
This time, however, was a first. Several fragments of dialogue whispered beyond the barrier of sleep, adding extra weight to the emotional baggage the dreams normally left him carrying. A sense of betrayal, a bond broken—it was a heaviness that reminded him of his failings, of challenging Tai and demanding answers he knew none of them had. He'd turned on all of them and splintered the group. He could still hear both Joe and Izzy chastising his poor understanding of his own crest, still see TK's crestfallen face as he left him behind.
I trusted you!

A/N: As of posting this (5/28/26), my updates to FFN are completely out of whack. This is what I get for trying to update a 20-year-old fic on a dying website, I guess... I prefer linking to my FFN as that's where all my fics are, but I'll also add a link to the fic on ao3 since this is giving me such a hard time. Also I promise this is not simply a rewrite of ep 51 the beginning is for context I swear. D:

Chapter 2
Piedmon had shown his face at last. Gatomon, exhausted from her brutal battle with LadyDevimon, was quietly resting in Kari's arms, while Tentomon waited impatiently by Izzy for his chance to join the fight against the last Dark Master.
"Get him, WarGreymon!" cried Tai, fists clenched, as Piedmon skillfully dodged all of his partner's attacks. They just had to hold him off, stall him long enough for everyone else to join them. They were so close—the Digital World, the Human World, both would be saved if they could just—
"Trump Sword!"
Tai's heart pounded as WarGreymon grunted in pain, barely able to dodge the attack. It felt like the fight had hardly begun and already the gap between the two Megas was obvious. Piedmon looked to be toying with them more than anything, but WarGreymon stayed calm and focused in spite of it.
Piedmon smirked, chuckling at his opponent's efforts. "Getting tired already, are we?"

Chapter 3
Piedmon was ignoring him now, eyes sharp and wicked as he instead glared at someone a short ways behind him. But Matt's focus didn't waver. He didn't have to turn around to know who this "Koushiro" supposedly was.
Unsurprisingly, it was Izzy who spoke up first.
"How could I have been involved?" he asked, voice raised in clear disbelief. "I'm only ten years old! Even now I don't have the knowledge to create a program as extensive as the Digital World, let alone some years ago!"
"Izzy's right!" shouted Joe angrily. "It's just not possible! What, you think he made Parrotmon magically appear out of the sky when he was six?"
In his mind, Matt could still see an unfamiliar man sitting at a computer with the screen reflected in his glasses, the scene replaying as if captured from the man's own monitor.
"Matt."
He blinked at the sound of Tai's voice, pulling himself out of his own head. Silently he turned to glance back while still keeping a wary eye on the evil digimon looming only a few feet away. He half expected everyone to be staring daggers at him now that the crux of the matter had finally come to light. It was no longer merely taking the time to hear out an enemy. It was accusing a friend. But Tai's gaze remained steady—a bit concerned and confused, but lacking the betrayal he expected—deserved—to find there.
"Why do you believe him?" he asked simply.
A question. Not an accusation. Matt shook his head, willing his voice to not break as he pushed his answer out.

We might not see it often, but one of my favorite underrated parts of the show is seeing characters interact with other kids' Digimon partners, especially when it's mundane, casual interaction.

Teen-Age Wolf: A Yamato "Matt" Ishida Analysis and Critique
(What do you mean absolutely zero people asked for or will care about this I don't understand.)
I grew up a massive Yamato fan. He was a character that was very dear to me, so naturally I was extremely excited to hear I'd get to go on more Adventures with him, first in Tri and then Last Evolution Kizuna. The consistent thing through all of this was that I loved each evolution of his character as we got them, but a recent rewatch of Tri and Kizuna have had me thinking about his character in ways I really hadn't before—in some ways leaving me delighted and others making me feel outright betrayed. So I wanted to explore his character journey to fully and properly grasp my thoughts on the character I consider to be my favorite of all time.
Walk on the Edge of a Knife
While the main desire in this is to explore his journey through Tri and Kizuna, I think it's important to lay the foundation of where he comes from to better understand how he evolves. We first see him in Adventure as a seemingly aloof kid, though it's pretty quickly revealed that this isn't really true. While not as openly friendly as some of the others, he often shows that he does care about them, seeking to protect them and trying to choose the path with the fewest dangers. His interactions with Takeru highlight this the most but that does extend toward the rest of the group as well.
Yamato's growth as a character is most obvious through his thoughts and interactions relating to Takeru and his parents. Due to his parents' divorce, he himself admits that he grew to be closed off from others, viewing himself as the unwanted child and placing Takeru on a pedestal as something for him to protect at all costs. He viewed his own value through the lens of being a useful older brother, so when Takeru grew to be more independent, Yamato began to lose sight of who he was.
This was exacerbated by the fact that Taichi—as well as the rest of the kids—applauded and encouraged Takeru's independence. Yamato viewed this as a threat, growing jealous of Taichi specifically due to how well he got along with Takeru, even stating that he believed Taichi to be the better older brother figure of the two.
Fanfiction art! One of mine and one of an old fave (guess which is from mine XD).
"Lord of the Nightmare Soldiers" by Alene Dierbre
The thing Digimon Adventure had over modern isekais is that modern isekais are relatively comfy. Like. When Truck-kun takes you, you can be reasonably sure you'll land in a place where a familiar kind of civilization exists, and where everything will be explained to you pretty quickly.
Digimon Adventure was basically "My Second Life Reincarnated into a Murder World That Explains Nothing and Wants Me Fucking Dead. Now I shit in a bush and need to figure out if berries off of the angry smashing tree are edible. Join me on my quest to find someplace reasonably safe to sleep for the night."
My favorite aspect of Digimon was that food was CONTINUOUSLY an issue for the humans. No matter how powerful their digimon got, they would always have the stakes of what the FUCK are we gonna feed the crying 8 year olds.

In another news I tried to look a little at the script that is up on the "with the will" website.
And obviously I didn't read the whole of it, I just looked at Yamato's name to see where it came up .
And apparently there's this one moment where Taichi goes "Yamato likes to pin everything on me"
And it kinda annoyed me?
I mean admittedly I don't know the context of the scene and maybe knowing it would change my opinion but like... what Taichi said...that's just not true?
Looking at Digimon adventure, Yamato never pinned anything on Taichi except for the Cherrymon incident where Yamato was just not himself.
If he wanted to do that he had the opportunity during the skull greymon incident where Taichi was just wrong.
But that's not what he does at all. Yamato is usually mostly just worried about everyone else. That is all.
It makes me wonder, do these digimon creators really think that low of Yamato? Do people (and even creators) really think Yamato just exists to pin everything against their main character? And he has no other purpose as a character?
Or does Taichi think this low of Yamato? Taichi seemed to understand him well during adventure 02.
Why can't we get these sort of scenes from Yamato's POV instead? Because Taichi's POV is just designed to make Yamato look bad tbh.
And now I wonder if I should get the full context of that scene or if there is any context at all?
Foreword 2:
Continuing from yesterday's content.
The first part mainly presented short film clips of Nordic scenes, as well as numerous scenes resembling dialogue plays. However, as the plot unfolds, the number of characters will gradually increase. Scenes that previously appeared sporadically in the footage will gradually emerge, and I believe viewers who have speculated about the meaning of these clips will also find enjoyment in them. There is a section in the middle explaining the logic of matter and parallel universes. When we started making Digimon Adventure, we pondered: how can things in the digital world possess mass in this real world? Later, in Digimon Tamers, we named this phenomenon "materialization." At the time, to establish a reasonable logic for it, I cleverly incorporated and interpreted a passage from Greg Egan's The Digital Immortality Project. Although this was my initial thought, there was no public opportunity to discuss it then or since, so I incorporated it into the film, thinking this might be my last chance.
Now, please enjoy Part Two.

“That must have been tough.”
Ken Ichijouji unbuttoned his black motorcycle jacket, seemingly finally relaxing.
“Yeah. I heard you were introduced to some big shot at the police station, that must have been tough too.”
Taichi glanced at Miyako.
“But thanks to that, it seems I don’t need to look for a job anymore.”
Miyako answered for Ken.
“Well, it’s like this. But I only met the higher-ups that one time, and after that, I only dealt with the person who was supposed to be my direct superior.”
“Planned, is that so? The Digimon Crime Investigation Division.”
“Because it’s a newly established department, it’s just a provisional name.”
“They’re really going to establish it. Yeah, although it will definitely be necessary in the future.”
“It seems that both the government and the police are investigating Digimon to some extent.”
Miyako didn’t say, “Not just Digimon, but ourselves too.”
“It’s only natural that they’d look to Ken.”
Ken was the one who most abhorred using Digimon for evil. He didn't want anyone else to repeat his mistakes.
Even if someone did commit such an act, he hoped to stop them as soon as possible. This feeling was probably the strongest among his companions.
"Probably because Bugmon isn't too big, it was considered suitable for the search."
Those who chose Ken clearly knew exactly how big everyone's Digimon would be after evolution.
"Such modesty," Tai said, initially feeling a little uneasy.
"Well, it's unlikely a giant Champion-level Digimon would suddenly appear on the street."
"Um, speaking of which,"
Ken tried to change the subject.
"Where are Koushiro and the others?"
"They said they were just passing on the news about Shin Kido."
If those two were left unattended, they'd definitely start arguing sometime and it would never end. That's probably happening now too.
"I'll go call them."
Miyako had already left, so Ken's wish for her to connect to the Digital World and see Bugmon's face was dashed.
13
"I really hope Ken-chan can try this too!"
Ken's partner Digimon, Wormmon, is skillfully manipulating chopsticks with its tiny hands (?), eating ramen. While its giant caterpillar-like appearance is somewhat frightening, its round, loving eyes are incredibly endearing.
"It's delicious, isn't it? Today's broth is special!"
Daisuke Motomiya looks smug.
"Your cooking skills have improved again, Daisuke."
Sitting next to Daisuke, V-mon, which looks like a dog but is actually a small dragon-shaped blue Digimon, also seems quite pleased.
In the distance, snow-capped mountains are visible. On the other side, there's a dense, tropical-like forest. On the plain between the two, a straight railway track runs through the landscape, but no one has ever seen anything pass by.
Beside the track is a short branch line, at the end of which wind turbine blades are slowly rotating. Thick power lines extend to a building that resembles a giant stone wall. Daisuke and his friends were in the courtyard. Daisuke wore a sports jacket and had his sunglasses perched on his head.
In one of the few protected areas in the Digital World, the cuisine was predominantly Western, influenced by the large number of residents from North America and English-speaking regions. Staple foods included potatoes, corn, and pasta, which was simpler to make and stored longer than bread. Daisuke's ramen made with these pasta dishes was a hit. Although there were no animals in this world, there were fish in the rivers and lakes. Daisuke not only knew how to cook but had also learned to skillfully make broth. Later, the toppings became more varied; today, there were even stir-fried mushrooms in his bowl.
"My suggestion was great, wasn't it?"
Tachikawa Mimi smiled. She wore a loose long T-shirt, a denim vest, shorts, and knee-high boots. Like Daisuke, she also prioritized both mobility and protection.
The mushrooms were Mimi's idea. In this world, the one who could best identify which mushrooms were edible was Mimi's partner Digimon—Palmmon.
Palmon, resembling a green plant, wasn't eating ramen; instead, it was sunbathing and photosynthesizing in the center of the courtyard. Beside it, a white-eared Digimon was sleeping while sunbathing. That was Terriermon. Terriermon's partner, Woris, was sitting around the same table with Daisuke and the others. He was completely accustomed to using chopsticks and was skillfully eating ramen.
"That contact just now, um, should we leave Nishijima alone?"
Daisuke looked somewhat troubled.
"Well, I've never met him, and I've never spoken to him."
The first time Daisuke saw Nishijima, he was lying unconscious in bed. At that time, Himekawa Maki and Mochizuki Meiko were beside him. From their conversation, it seemed that Daisuke and Iori had been missing for quite some time.
Mimi's stance was different.
"I think I've seen him, but my memory is a bit hazy."
According to Meiko, Mimi had acted with Taichi and the others before. Mimi did feel like she'd seen Meiko before, but if it were a major event as Meiko claimed, she couldn't possibly have forgotten.
"Is this vague feeling the same as mine?"
Worris interjected. Unlike Mimi, Worris and Daisuke should have met before, but that was ten years ago.
"Don't say that, Worris. I remember we got along quite well back then."
Shortly after the establishment of protected areas in America, Wallace had visited the home of Michael, a member of PH America. Michael's father was a famous movie star who owned a vast ranch, part of which was designated as a protected area. That was shortly after the transfer to the Digital World. Because Wallace said they'd met before, Daisuke was called over.
"Back then, I always felt like it wasn't the first time we'd met."
But the adventures they'd shared weren't clear in his memory. He vaguely remembered the journey with Daisuke and the others, set in America, and the battles against powerful Digimon. Kyo and Iori felt the same way.
“Me too. When I transformed into Magnamon, it didn’t feel like it was the first time,”
Veemon said the same thing. But other than that, their memories were blurry. After all, that was during their decisive battle with Digimon Kaiser in the Digital World. Did they go to America before or after that? And not through a portal, but by plane.
“I think I also have memories of shrinking, though I can’t quite put my finger on it.”
Mimi and Tai didn’t see Wallace back then. It’s said they were turned back into children. Is that why they can’t remember clearly, or is that their true memory, or something else entirely? Koushiro once said that Wallace might have come from another world. Perhaps he even brought the memories of Daisuke and the others from his original world with him.
14
“Was that the first case of memory distortion?”
In a room at the research institute, Koushiro and Menoa stood talking.
“Wollis’s case, Mei’s case, and mine. And this time, right?”
“There are also some cases I only heard about from Ichijouji.”
“That one was the most perplexing, or rather, the circumstances were just too different.”
“Regarding memories, there was another case before that.”
In 1995, a massive explosion occurred at Hikari Hill. Although it was treated as a gas leak accident, it was actually caused by a battle between Greymon and Parrotmon. Taichi and the other eight witnessed this. Despite this, they completely forgot about it until four years later when they revisited Hikari Hill and fought against Digimon attempting to invade Tokyo. At the time, they thought they had forgotten the initial incident because they were too young.
"It's said that when faced with a major event or a terrifying experience, people often seal away that memory. This is to protect the mind. While I initially thought the Mitsuoka incident was for this reason, perhaps we should re-examine its connection to subsequent events."
"I think the sealing of memories and the misalignment of memories are different in nature."
"Ms. Menoa, is your situation a misalignment of memories?"
"Or from another world? You mentioned this before."
"There are also cases of memories from other worlds."
"Moreover, it's unclear where these memories should be categorized on the real-world timeline. We'll need to sort them out properly after this is over." “Although it’s said to be a memory issue, it’s definitely related to the information system.”
“What Izzy has been struggling with—what exactly are Digimon, and why can beings from another world possess mass in this world, and increase or decrease it during ‘evolution’?”
“Menoa’s research, namely the question of ‘whether the Digital World is just another world,’ should be fundamentally the same.”
“Because Rui came, the topic has been brought back.”
“Mr. Nishijima’s regaining consciousness might not be a coincidence.”
The door opened, and Miyako rushed in.
“Ah, as expected. When are you two going to stop talking? The contact is over, isn’t it? Ken is here too.”
Back in the hallway of the reception room, Koushiro and Menoa were still talking.
15
Do parallel worlds or other universes exist? If so, where and in what form do they exist? One answer to these questions is as follows:
"Based on what I can currently understand about what Mr. Koushiro is saying. After all, a humanities student's comprehension is limited."
During a long drive, while resting briefly at a rest stop's cafeteria, Yue began explaining Koushiro's hypothesis to Rui. Shu dozed off in the driver's seat.
"The atoms that make up matter. Or rather, the nucleus and electrons that make up atoms. They are much smaller than we vaguely imagine. Try imagining a baseball and a sesame seed at the distance between the sun and the earth. Although the proportions aren't accurate, it's said to make it easier to understand."
Takeru took two sesame seeds from the sesame ball in front of him and placed them at opposite ends of the table.
"The actual distance is much farther than that."
Even at such a great distance, they can still appear as an atom. Although physics gives various names for them, ultimately, there's some kind of agreement. Because something like a contract has been made between them. In fact, even if other fundamental particles were to intrude, they would have no effect without a covenant.
“But what if there are actually many sesame seeds in the middle?”
He placed a plate containing sesame balls between two sesame seeds.
“What if we piled up even more plates?”
If they were densely packed together, the number would be virtually infinite. If they were all interconnected through different covenants, wouldn't that be another universe? If the “covenant” of atoms could redirect their orientation to a neighboring fundamental particle, perhaps it could become another atom. The only thing binding this world with such a “covenant” is information. If a certain amount of information rewrites this information system to that neighboring one…
“It’s like threading a string connecting many sesame seeds onto another sesame seed. That might be the way to another world.”
The class couldn’t keep up with this sudden topic. Yue ignored him and continued:
"The interesting thing about this story is that it seems to explain why Digimon can have physical forms in our world." It's not some distant concept like different dimensions or another world, but rather countless fundamental particles existing in this space yet unrecognized. If information were input into them, making them perceptible in this world…
"That would create mass that didn't exist before."
Takeru stuck a toothpick into the sesame ball.
"Eh, does that mean Digimon evolution is also…"
"That's right. You grasped it quickly. When Digimon evolve, their size often changes drastically, possibly even reaching dozens of times their original mass. Rather than borrowing it from elsewhere…"
He held up the sesame ball with the toothpick.
"It's faster to string together the unrecognized sesame seeds that exist here and borrow them into this world. Actually, it's said to involve dark matter, dark energy, quantum theory, and string vibrations, etc., but that's all I can understand."
Koushiro seemed to think that this mass issue might also be related to consciousness and memory.
Meanwhile, Takeru pondered: among the children who witnessed the incident at Hikarigaoka in '95, were those who moved to Odaiba a few years later summoned to the Digital World, or were they destined to be summoned there and thus moved to Odaiba? He also questioned this causal relationship. Since it was beyond Koushiro's interests, he felt it was a problem he would likely need to solve later. It might even involve fate, or the existence of gods.
"I hope I can…understand more things in the future."
16
"Yamato-senpai back then was amazing—it felt like he was about to rush up and punch someone at any moment."
Miyako was referring to what he had heard about Yamato after Rui appeared at Koushiro's lab the previous night.
"So, our bond with Digimon started with something so hasty? That's ridiculous. Luckily, Taichi went to Geneva. If that guy were there, he wouldn't have let it go, and that would have been troublesome."
"Yamato always blames everything on me, that's not good."
Taichi replied helplessly. With Ken's arrival, Taichi, Koushiro, Menoa, and Kyo began reviewing the events of the previous day.
"There's something else very important,"
Menoa, who had been listening silently, spoke up.
"Rui and me. And Mochizuki Megumi."
Taichi stared intently at Menoa.
"So, we didn't meet our partner Digimon in the Digital World."
Taichi and the others, along with Daisuke and the others, almost all met their partner Digimon after going to the Digital World. Except for Hikari. Those children who met their partners after defeating BelialVamdemon, those who had the Dark Seed implanted, also met their partners in the Digital World.
"However, since 2003, these kinds of cases have indeed gradually increased."
Koushiro closed the lid of his tablet.
"Thinking back, the same goes for Voris, who claimed to have adventured with Daisuke and the others in the summer of 2002. Their encounter didn't happen in the Digital World."
"Is there some deeper meaning to this? Those PHs who might have been in other worlds are all appearing."
"And they've all lost their partner Digimon."
Mei, Menoa, and Rui. Their partner Digimon are all gone now. In their memories, those Digimon were defeated by Taichi and Daisuke.
Ken, who had been listening quietly, finally turned to Koushiro.
"Speaking of which, about that hypothesis earlier. About Rui's age and memories, I think that's a rather sensitive topic, especially for Rui himself."
"Ah, that…"
Koushiro was about to answer when Miyako and Menoa interrupted him, almost jumping out of their chairs.
“We did everything we could to stop the director from saying that!”
“Letting Izzy say something like that would have completely ruined everything!”
“Then Takeru said, ‘I’ll go and talk to them slowly.’”
“That’s why he suddenly decided to go to the Tohoku region.”
“I see.”
Taichi put his hands behind his head again. He thought to himself, how many times has he done this today?
“Is it really that bad of me to say this?”
Koushiro still seemed somewhat unconvinced.
“Well, it’s precisely because Izzy doesn’t understand these things that it’s his strength.”
“Mimi said something like that before.”
Taichi couldn’t help but marvel at how smoothly the research institute was still operating.
17
“Joe, don’t you find it heavy? I can walk by myself.”
“It’s okay, I could carry it myself when I was in elementary school.”
As if some accident had occurred, the train stopped, and Joe Kido, carrying a backpack containing Gomamon, walked along the seaside path.
"Looks like we won't make it before dark."
The sun was already quite low in the sky.
18
“Miyako, can you open the gate for me? It's about time to get Tentomon over here.”
Koushiro, who was looking at his tablet in the reception room, looked up.
“Any signs?”
“Looks like it's not about to happen yet.”
Taichi could see a hint of tension in his eyes.
“Where will it likely appear?”
“Near this research institute, and two places in the protected area. Kowloon Walled City where Sora and the others are, and Alamo Fortress where Mimi and the others are. Also, there's the Kanagawa Sanatorium where the reaction is weaker, and one more… moving around Fukushima, five places in total.”
“So many at once?”
Miyako frowned.
When Digimon are active in the real world, they can cause digital device malfunctions. If it's a Rookie-level Digimon, the effect isn't obvious. But once a Champion-level Digimon uses a certain skill, it begins to affect its surroundings, and Ultimate-level Digimon sometimes spread interference signals simply by their presence. The frequency of these interference signals can now be roughly determined. By observing these signals, the presence of Digimon can be detected even at long distances. This is also one of the research topics of this institute.
In the Digital World, people are attempting to detect only specific types of Digimon. Observational work is being conducted through friendly Digimon in various regions, and through agents like Gennai, in cooperation with "Homeostasis—the Will that Desires Stability in the Digital World." Tentomon is at the center of this network.
In both the Digital World and this world, potentially malicious Digimon have been detected. Moreover, they are appearing simultaneously in multiple locations.
"They're trying to divert our forces. Looks like they're serious."
Before Taichi could finish speaking, Menoa stood up and walked towards the research lab.
"I'll activate the system and prepare."
"I have to go over there too."
"Me too."
"Then you go over to Daisuke's side. This place…"
"We can probably handle it ourselves."
Miyako glanced at the data on Koushiro's tablet, assessing the situation, and pointed the D3 at the monitor as he spoke. A hazy light appeared on the LCD screen in the corner of the reception room. The light suddenly intensified, and the door opened.
19
A forest could be seen from outside the parking lot of the highway rest stop. As dusk fell, it was impossible to see what lurked deep within, but something seemed to be stirring. Footsteps could be heard approaching. They didn't seem to be the size of an ordinary human.
Kido Shin handed a laptop from the driver's seat.
"It's started."
"Thanks!"
Yasu pointed the D3 at the monitor.
"The Digital Gate opens!"
A hazy light appeared on the screen. Yasu took the laptop and pointed it at the open area of the parking lot. The light spread outwards. Almost simultaneously, a black Digimon leaped out of the forest. Garurumon, appearing from the light, knocked the black Digimon away with a single blow. Yamato appeared immediately after the light.
"We made it."
"It was a close call."
As Yasu replied, Iori and Armadillomon appeared in the light.
"Leave this to us."
"Let's get going!"
"Please!"
"Remember to charge your phone!"
"Okay."
Yamato answered as he closed the car door, and the car sped towards Tokyo. From the depths of the forest behind the Digimon Garurumon had knocked away, several more enormous black Digimon appeared, attempting to rush onto the road.
"No need to hold back, Iori."
"I understand."
Iori raised D3, and Armadillomon released its evolutionary glow.

A backdrop of cliffs bathed in the setting sun, white clothes fluttered in the wind. Takeru casually slipped his arm into his sleeve.
"Isn't it a bit too early to wear this?"
Below Takeru's feet, covered in fluffy white fur, was a Seadramon. They were already heading towards the sea, towards the sanatorium.
"No, this is my feeling!"
Takeru gripped Seadramon's horn with his left hand. The white suit was specially made equipment with blade-proof and water-repellent properties. Although it made it somewhat heavy, it was sufficient to withstand the sea wind. He always kept this equipment handy to deal with emergencies. The backpack containing the white coat and Gomamon had its shoulder straps hanging from Unicorn's horn.
“Hurry up!”
“Hurry up!”
Seamon sped up. Large splashes of water rose from both sides.

In the Digital World, near the protected area of Kowloon Walled City, there was an inconspicuous entrance leading to a sturdy facility five levels underground. While unsuitable for daily living, it could be used as a refuge. It was because of this facility that this place was chosen as a protected area.
Hikari closed the sturdy door on the second basement level.
“I'll leave it to you inside.”
On the other side of the door, Mochizuki Meiko was looking after the children.
“Okay, it’s fine here. Please be careful.”
“Thank you.”
Hikari closed the door. She lowered the heavy doorknob.
“That's good.”
She had just breathed a sigh of relief when a sharp pain shot through her mind.
From the narrow crevice leading to the ground, a darkness like black miasma surged in. It was the embodiment of malice. Ordinary people couldn't see it. Many, even those close at hand, felt nothing. But it was enough to affect Hikari's spirit. She almost curled up in fear.
A Digimon resembling a white cat rushed up from the lower level at lightning speed. It was Gatomon, sensing Hikari's abnormality. Its powerful punch, imbued with holy power, dispelled the darkness.
“Hikari!”
“I'm alright. Just a little careless.”
She first reached the ground, adjusting her breathing in the sunlight.
Takenouchi Sora and his pink bird-type partner Digimon, Biyomon, arrived.
“It seems there are more opponents than expected. And not only that—”
From the depths of the miasma, they sensed an aura that was not that of an ordinary Digimon.
“Just as I predicted. I knew this day would come.”
Noriko Kawada, carrying Meowmon, ran over from Kowloon Walled City.
“Air hostess, it’s over.”
She was one of the first members of PH (Protectors) in 2003, and one of the children who had been implanted with the Dark Seed. Now, she takes turns caring for the children in this protected area. She was checking that the emergency gates throughout the building were closed.
“Thank you. You go in first.”
“Also, I heard there’s a dark shadow approaching from the south.”
“I’ll go check it out. What about Hikari?”
“I went back to the lab to take turns with my brother.”
Watching Nariko close the entrance to the underground, the two started running.
“Good luck!”
“Be careful over there too!”
Hikari and Gatomon rushed towards Kowloon Walled City, while Sora rode on the feet of Birdramon, the giant Moltres evolved from Biyomon, like riding a swing chair. Their bright red wings flapped, and they rose into the air.
22
“Taichi, this is for you.”
“Is it the one I mentioned a few days ago?”
“Just in time.”
“I hope Takeru and the others can make it too. Anyway, I’m off.”
Taichi took the goggles from Koushiro, passed through the portal in the research facility, and headed towards the Digital World.
23
“I’ll be careful.”
Takeru was charging his phone at the charger in Kido’s car.
“But a computer is still better for Garurumon to suddenly jump out.”
Since Takeru was sitting in the passenger seat, Rui was a bit bored and looked at his Digimon. It looked older than Taiichi’s and the others’. It wasn’t like the D3 Takeru had, and it didn’t have the function of opening doors. After all, could this thing even be used? Even in Koushiro’s research facility, it wasn’t immediately possible to determine whether it was a real Digimon or a similar-looking imitation.
One function of the Digimon was gradually becoming clear: people without a Digimon cannot stay in the Digital World for long. This is because there have been precedents of military or criminal organizations accidentally forcibly entering the Digital World through the gates that PH used.
Those who attempted to enter using Digimon experienced abnormal behavior after a period of time. Even without these, ordinary firearms are useless when attacked by ferocious Digimon. Living in the Digital World requires a partner Digimon and a Digi-device. Those who were lucky enough to return to the human world reported this failure. Furthermore, it was discovered that a Digi-device obtained by one person is almost impossible to use in the hands of another. This means that borrowing or forcibly taking it is ineffective.
Since it's impossible to confirm whether certain Digi-devices will function properly in the Digital World, it's impossible to use the Digital Gates for movement. We can only rely on conventional transportation in the human world.
The car is almost in Tokyo. A motorcycle comes from the opposite lane. Two more motorcycles follow, making a 180° turn and sandwiching the car.
24
A giant white body runs up the ramp leading to the sanatorium. It's Seadramon. The long staircase shakes violently. To avoid being left behind, Joe desperately clung to the horn of Seadramon. The sanatorium was now barely visible, with dark shadows swaying in the nearby woods. They seemed to be large Digimon. Joe jumped down, and Seadramon de-evolved back into Gomamon, leaping into the sanatorium.
They passed through the examination room and entered the ward corridor. Ahead was a large hall that doubled as a dining hall and meeting room, with a single aluminum window made entirely of glass. Beyond the lawn stretched a forest. The black Digimon looked as if they were about to attack. Looking fearfully out of the open door of a ward in the corridor was Himekawa Maki. Then came Joe's older brother, Shin's back. Joe ran to him, calling out:
"Shin-nii, are you alright?"
Before he could say, "We'll take care of things here," he stopped in surprise. The Digimon in the forest should have already entered the room. If it weren't for this Digimon blocking their way.
"Arachnemon,"
He raised his humanoid upper body. Hearing Joe's voice, the nurse standing in front of the Digimon turned around.
"My Poison suddenly turned into this~!"
Joe knew that Jun's partner Digimon was Poison Spidermon. Was this Araknemon its evolved form? If so, it shouldn't cause any harm. After all, it evolved to protect Jun from Digimon attacks.
The Digimon in the forest began to move towards them. Arachnemon prepared to pilot. Gomamon should have evolved as well, but the room was already crowded with just one Arachnemon; there was no room for Ikkakumon.
"Joe, go over there."
Said, Shin ran to the right side of the glass door. Joe ran to the left, and the two pushed the glass door open simultaneously. Araknemon dashed out, followed closely by Gomamon, whose evolutionary light burst forth.

DMH (Democratic Non-Governmental Organization)
Representative Director: Natsuko Takaishi
Main business is promoting good relations between the human world and the Digital World. Protecting the safety of humans who own Partner Digimon—PHs (Partner Humans)—is part of their mission. Taichi Yagami has become an employee of this organization. Yamato and Iori once traveled to the Digital World from their office through a gate, and later used Shu's computer to open a gate and launch an attack. Besides Noriko Kawada, who assists with operations, many volunteer university students come and go, taking turns carrying out activities in the protected area.
Takashi Yoshizawa and Hiroshi Shibata, who also became PHs in early 2003, are driving two vehicles, one with Shu's car attached, along with their respective Partner Digimon. This is an escort mission on their way to Koushiro's Laboratory. Although their combat experience is limited, they believe "this level should be useful," and thus volunteered.
Also on a motorcycle is Keiko Kurata, from the same group. She arrived at the roadside rest stop where Yamato and the others were. A battle with the Black Digimon had just ended there.
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
While using the portal for movement has many advantages, it also has drawbacks. When returning from a destination, if there isn't suitable equipment such as a computer on site, the gate cannot be opened immediately. If she used her personal smartphone as a portal, she would have to leave it behind. Therefore, she specifically brought a smartphone designed for opening portals.
“Digital Gate open.”
Iori pointed the D3 at the phone screen, and the portal opened.
“Please meet up with Taichi and the others in the Digital World.”
“Is everything alright with Joe?”
“It seems they have enough people.”
“I see. I’ll be going then.”
Seeing Yamato and the others enter the portal, Kurata’s motorcycle sped towards Tokyo.
26
“Miyako and the others have assembled.”
Tentomon flew into the research lab at the Izumi Laboratory, into the room where Koushiro was.
"I've taken everyone to the rooftop. We haven't even had our turn yet."
"We have to wait for takeru and the others to arrive. And it's not that stage yet. Please rest a little longer."
"So, you're saying we're going to have a big showdown later, huh? I'm really looking forward to it!"
Menoa, who was staring at the system monitor, glanced in that direction, a hint of envy on his lips, but Koushiro and the others didn't notice.

A black tornado rose from the depths of the horizon, churning and cascading horizontally. It was hurtling towards them. It looked like a giant snake, or perhaps a centipede. As it drew closer, it became clear that the granular objects that made up the tornado were actually gears of varying sizes. Being directly hit by it would likely cause immense damage. Moreover, even the smallest gear, if it burrowed into a Digimon's body, would steal its will, turning it into an evil lackey.
“Using the same old trick again.”
Standing atop Birdramon’s feet, Sora Takenouchi recalled something Biyomon had said before.
“I’ve always thought… It’s called ‘Meteor Wings,’ but what flies out isn’t wings, it’s a meteor. It’s nice to let wings take center stage sometimes.”
On a high plateau in the Digital World, a rock stood abruptly. Birdramon rose from its front, and Sora Takenouchi leaped from its feet. Upon landing, she shouted:
“Go! Go deal with that!”
Birdramon, already blazing hot, charged straight at the gear tornado. It unleashed all the power it had restrained when Sora was beside it. Although “Meteor Wings” was supposed to release fiery feathers like shuriken, it didn’t fire them this time. Its gaze was fixed straight ahead, and it twisted its entire body violently. Like a giant red drill, it plunged into the tornado. The gears were shattered by the spinning force, decayed under the intense heat, and finally crumbled. The tornado, which resembled a giant centipede, was completely pulverized in less than twenty seconds.

“Who named this place Alamo?”
A massive stone mansion. Each of the six corners of the outer wall, also made of stone, had a tower. Standing atop one of the towers, Michael looked around and spoke. Steve's voice came through the communicator from another tower.
“Isn’t it your dad? I heard he made a movie like that.”
“Oh, really? He should have given it a different name.”
Michael’s father was a movie star. Before moving to this protected area, part of his vast ranch had been a refuge for rescued children. Although he himself had never set foot in the Digital World, he had said, upon seeing photos of the location, that it resembled Fort Alamo from one of his movies.
“Well, part of it does look a bit like a fortress. But strictly speaking, it’s more like a castle. And, isn’t this image a bit off?”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“How could we possibly be wiped out?”
Sam and Lou’s voices came through the communicator. They were American human partners, almost the same age as Mimi and the others.
"Stop talking nonsense!"
"The next wave is coming soon!"
The voices of Maria and Tatum, teammates, also rang out.
Outside the outer wall, Mimi's partner Digimon, Palmon, evolved into a giant cactus-shaped Cactusmon, defeating the swarm of black gears that had attacked earlier. Then, black cables surged from all directions, attacking Alamo from all sides. These cables would strip a Digimon of its will upon contact. Although hundreds of cables attacked, Michael and the others' partner Digimon were almost completely destroyed.
"Alright, everyone retreat for now! Team A, come in!"
The main gate of the outer wall opened, and as the Digimon retreated, about thirty partner humans emerged, each with their own Digimon. The remnants of the cables had long since turned to dust and vanished without a trace. At the feet of Daisuke, Ken, and Veemon and Wormmon lay the rocky terrain in front of the wilderness.
"It's time to borrow the power of everyone's Digimon!"
"No problem, I'll definitely get everyone back safely. I promise!"
From the other side of the wilderness emerged black, spike-like objects. They were slender, rectangular pillars, as thick as giant trees, tapering to a point where only the tip was sharp as a blade. These were the black obelisks—the Dark Towers—possessing the power to hinder evolution. The surrounding Digimon would be unable to evolve beyond the Rookie stage. The group of black pillars stretched out from the depths, approaching the fortress.
29
Several Dark Towers also stood in Tokyo Bay. Escorted by two vehicles, Kido Osamu's car screeched to a halt in front of the Shibaura Izumi Laboratory. Patamon rushed out from the gate.
"Gaku~~!"
"Patamon! Sorry to keep you waiting."
Koushiro and Tentomon were waiting in the entrance hall.
"Go to the gate. What about you?"
Koushiro led Lei to the reception room.
"Please wait a moment."
Meanwhile, the computer screen in the research lab showed that Yue, Patamon, and Kido Osamu had passed through the gate opened by Kyo and entered the Digital World.
30
In 2002, Takeru, a fifth-grade elementary school student, moved to Odaiba. At that time, public Wi-Fi was not yet widespread in Japan.
The area centered around Odaiba was selected as an experimental zone for laying wireless communication networks. A terminal device, slightly larger than a mobile phone (primarily used for sending and receiving emails but without call functions), was distributed to elementary school students and their families.
It was called the D-Terminal.
While its functionality wasn't particularly powerful, its larger memory than a regular mobile phone made it quite practical as a storage medium.
When Daisuke Motomiya and the others encountered their partner Digimon, their Digi-D3 connected to this terminal, allowing them to store Digi-Spirit data containing the power of their Crests. Thanks to this terminal, they could not only possess multiple Digi-Spirit data sets but also use these powers for Armor Evolution.
However, this also brought a drawback: Armor Evolution required both a Digi-device and a D-Terminal. Unlike the Digi-device, the D-Terminal, being an industrial product manufactured by humans, had its functions completely replaced by smartphones. Daisuke and his friends now used smartphones instead of D-Terminals. With the widespread use of smartphones, among the increasing number of partner humans, children began to have Digimon capable of Armor Evolution as their partners. Those stationed in the protected area were called the Armor Evolution Team, or Team A for short.
Daisuke shouted:
"Alright! Team A, move out—!"
The PH members stationed in front of Alamo Fortress all underwent Armor Evolution. Armor Evolution was unaffected by the Dark Tower. Daisuke's partner Digimon—Veemon—transformed into a blue quadrupedal Digimon, LightDramon. Its size, originally roughly the size of Daisuke riding alone, had now doubled.
"Go—"
LightDramon carried Daisuke away at high speed. A group of land-type Armor Digimon followed closely behind. With a thunderous roar, they charged straight towards the towering Dark Towers.
“Let’s go too!”
Behind Ken Ichijouji, standing on the rock, a group of flying-type Armored Digimon took to the air. Leading them was Pucchiemon. This was a Fairy-type Digimon evolved from Wormmon, with a white body and a helmet adorned with large red ears. Although its combat power was low, it could detect Digimon trapped within the Dark Tower complex, or those possessed by black gears that hadn't been removed after being destroyed, and quickly remove those gears. The Armored Digimon that followed mercilessly shattered the Dark Towers.
31
“Now, everyone!”
Iori rode a Submarinemon, resembling a small submarine. The aquatic Armored Digimon that followed closely behind Armadillomon accelerated.
North of the Kowloon Walled City Protected Area, a lake on a high platform was so vast it could be mistaken for an ocean. On that lake, stretching from the center to the south, the spires of the Dark Towers rose abruptly at irregular intervals. They began to tilt from the side closest to the shore, gradually sinking into the water. This was the attack launched by Iori's Digimon.
32
In Tokyo Bay, now completely plunged into darkness, the protruding Dark Towers were being systematically severed by attacks from the air. Dozens of Dark Towers also appeared on the surface centered around Shibaura, but were similarly destroyed within minutes. The main force of the attack consisted of Nephtimon, a winged, sphinx-like Digimon, and Horusmon, a Digimon with a quadrupedal head and steel wings—evolved from Hawkmon. There were four Horusmon in total. Nephtimon, evolved from Tailmon, was ridden by Hikari, while the Horusmon were piloted by Miyako, his older brother, and two older sisters.
"Let's retreat after we're done!"
With Miyako's voice, everyone returned to the roof of the Izumi Laboratory.
33
The Dark Towers on the lake north of the Kowloon Walled City protected area were completely shattered from the roots and sunk into the water, allowing Submarinemon to climb ashore. Other aquatic Armored Digimon advanced towards the protected area along the waterways. From above in that direction, a winged, horse-like Pegasusmon swooped down. It was Patamon's evolved form, an Armored Digimon, which Takeru was riding.
"Those near the fortress are all taken care of. Leave the rest to Daisuke and the others. Let's move on to the next location."
34
“Thanks everyone! Let’s push on to Kowloon Walled City!”
Daisuke shouted to the Armored Digimon in front of Alamo Fortress.
“Michael and the others’ Digimon can evolve here.”
Ken and Wormmon were also there.
“Come back as soon as we finish dealing with the Dark Tower over there.”
Michael shouted from the tower above him.
“Mimi and the others seem to have already set off.”
South of the fortress, in the dense forest. Palmon and Mimi were already moving as fast as the wind.
Palmon’s tentacles could extend very long. Grabbing a branch while retracting it, it moved forward. Simultaneously, it extended another tentacle. Repeatedly moving forward allowed it to move rapidly.
In this dense forest with its tangled roots and no flat ground, it couldn’t run this fast even on the ground. Perhaps even faster than flying.
Mimi clung to Palmon. Despite moving so fast, Mimi still didn’t miss the Digimon on the ground. Among them might be Digimon possessed by the Black Gear. Indeed, it did happen, but only after they left the dense forest.
Palmon immediately evolved into Togemon, launching spikes from its body to destroy the gears on the Digimon.
35
“It’s an interesting question whether siblings’ partner Digimon are the same or different,”
Shin Kido remarked as he surveyed the sanatorium’s lounge. Three Gomamons stood before him, seemingly getting along well. Shu replied, listening to the intermittent light and sounds of breaking things coming from the darkness outside the open glass doors.
“The Izumi Laboratory seems to be researching that as well. But it seems they’ll have a hard time focusing on that area,”
“After all, their research there is mainly focused on electronics,”
Joe added.
The three Kido brothers’ partner Digimon all started with Pukamon, evolving into Gomamon. It was initially thought this was due to Joe’s earlier partnership, but subsequent evolutions were different. Now, Jun Motomiya’s younger brother, Daisuke, holding a small spidermon, has a partner Digimon called Veemon, a different kind of Digimon.
The sounds of flapping wings and digging grew closer from outside the glass door. Pegasusmon, carrying Takeru, landed.
"It's mostly taken care of, huh?"
Speaking of brothers having different Digimon, this was the case for the siblings Taichi and Hikari, as well as the brothers Yamato and Takeru.
Before Iori, who was waiting outside, the ground rose up, and a hard Digimon with a drill-like mouth appeared—Digmon. It immediately de-evolved, reverting to Armadillomon.
"Not many around here, huh?"
Dark Towers also appeared near the sanatorium, but the two Digimon quickly dealt with them.
The three Gomamon stepped forward, taking turns saying:
"Alright, it's our turn now."
"You two can rest first."
"There's iced tea too."
Although it might be difficult for outsiders to distinguish them, it's said that the Kido brothers would never mistake their partner Digimon.
"Well, Iori, you should rest first."
Takeru said to Iori.
“We have to go back to the lab.”
Pegasusmon also de-evolved, reverting to Patamon, and perched on Takeru’s head.
“Um, is everything alright?”
Iori stammered. Takeru and Iori needed to be together to perform a synchronized evolution, and he was worried about whether it would be okay. Other synchronized evolution pairs—Daisuke and Ken, Hikaru and Miyako—were all in the same place.
“After all, it’s not just the two of us going,”
Takeru replied with a smile.
Later, Rui casually asked this question.
“Mr. Takeru, why are you always so calm?”
Iori, Ken, and Miyako happened to be present at the time.
“Well—but I heard he had quite a few temper tantrums when he was little. Right, Iori-kun, Ichijouji-kun?”
“Ah, um, that’s…”
“Uh, that…”
“I heard he’s terrifying when he gets angry?”
Iori felt a vague unease. Much later, he realized that this unease didn't stem from Takeru himself, but from pity for the person Takeru was about to face.
36
The Kowloon Walled City protected area gradually darkened. On the rooftops on the west side of the castle, Taichi, Agumon, Yamato, and Gabumon were looking down. No, Taichi was actually lying on his back.
"It's about time," Yamato said, having witnessed the surrounding Dark Towers being cleared one by one. Hearing this, Taichi sat up abruptly.
"Finally, it's our turn!"
Under the setting sun, a dark shadow surged from the horizon, hurtling towards them.
37
It was still midday in the Alamo Castle protected area. Passing through dense forests and over rocky mountains, a vast plain stretched out before them, with a colossal tree standing in the distance. Its diameter alone was several kilometers. Layers of mist swirled around the middle of its trunk, obscuring its top.
The colossal tree was slowly tilting.
Mimi, having climbed the rocky mountain ahead, pointed.
“That’s it, Togemon!”
Having just cleared the black gears clinging to the Digimon below, Togemon stood beside Mimi.
Behind them, the giant tree was gradually tilting. Black mist surged from its roots. No, it wasn’t a cloud. It was an object whose black outlines were constantly expanding and collapsing. It turned out to be a collection of countless tiny particles. This time, it wasn’t black gears. It was Digimon. Black Digimon in their Champion, Ultimate, and other forms.
They gathered into millions of colonies, looking like a dark cloud. Emerging from the ground, they were approaching. No, black objects were also spreading across the ground. Those were black Digimon that couldn’t fly.
“As expected, dealing with all of this by myself is a bit much.”
“Yeah. We didn’t come here to do something so futile.”
“More importantly,”
she turned to look at the dense forest behind them.
"Go tell the Digimon in this forest to escape!"
"Understood!"
Cactusmon rushed into the forest.
38
Daisuke shouted after confirming the situation.
"All done! Evacuate!"
The Dark Towers surrounding Kowloon Walled City had all been destroyed. Takenouchi Sora was carrying a monitor out of the communication room window on the first floor of the fortress. Ken opened the gate there, and the flying-type Armored Digimon, led by Pucchiemon, flew in. Following closely behind were the ground-type Armored Digimon, led by Daisuke in his lightdramon. Before entering the gate, the last remaining Digimon looked towards the setting sun.
"Finally made it."
The setting sun was already obscured by the black horde of Digimon. The Digimon covering the horizon were rapidly approaching.
"Thanks for your hard work, everyone. The Digimon can return safely now."
Sora smiled.
"But those Digimon and their partners seemed really happy. They said they could help out even without fighting."
"Yeah. We have to make sure they don't get caught up in battle."
Ken disappeared through the gate. On the fortress roof were not only Taichi and Yamato, but also the three Hong Kong brothers, Moonbeam, Dean from Vietnam, Mina from India, and other experienced Phantasms and their partner Digimon, all standing facing the setting sun.
absolutely OBSESSED with Tai being in a rut and blaming himself after Augmon got kidnapped, then Matt just shows up and fucking DECKS him
Davis is all like wow hold on and TK's in the back like they're just like this give them a minute (actually tk yells at davis 'let them be' which is so fucking funny like LET MY BROTHER BEAT UP HIS BEST FRIEND STFU)
cause Matt punches Tai, says his name and waits a second, then reaches out to help him stand up and says his name again and Tai's like you're right and thanks him
Tai's all better because Matt punched him.
sometimes violence is the answer.
Please let Yamato get hurt in 13+ and Takeru absolutely lose it at that sight
PLEASE LET YAMATO GET HURT IN FRONT OF TAKERU PLEEEEAAASSEEE
I mean we saw Hikari reacting to Taichi “dying” in Tri
WE NEED THE YAMAKERU VERSION NOW
THE PUBLIC (I’m public) YEARNS FOR TAKAISHI KYOUDAI ANGST
I wanted to share this particular scene because it talks about the hardships that Taichi and Yamato have seen while working at the forefront of the rescue operations for Partner Humans.
This chapter is longer than what I have posted here, after Taichi and Yamato it shifts to Daisuke and Ken, but I didn't understand their conversation due to lack of context so I have excluded that part.
For today, I can only share this much. Tomorrow I might try my hand at the Mimi scenes, and then Sora and Hikari scenes.
@matomato9 hope you can enjoy this!

"Our battles seem to go on forever, it never ends does it?" Agumon wonders aloud.
Taichi and Yamato, together with their partner Digimon Agumon and Gabumon, stand atop a rock beyond the multiple layers of walls they have breached. Now, they have to wait before they make their next move.
"We still have a long way to go, but we just can’t afford to lose." Taichi responds to Agumon.
What Taichi wants to convey is that even if this particular battle ends now, their enemies won’t simply disappear. That’s because the enemies they are fighting are not just the Digimon, there’s a different kind of enemy, a different kind of battle that awaits them in the real world.
"We won't lose, as long as there are people who believe in us, that is," said Yamato.
He can't help but think about all the comrades he has fought alongside until now, the children he has helped rescue, and their families too.
Since Taichi and Yamato began their work of rescuing Partner Humans and giving them a safe place to live, both of them ended up witnessing some truly harrowing scenes over the years. They had to travel to regions caught up in civil wars and other such conflicsts, and there were times when they simply could not save the children.
During those times, Taichi wept bitterly, blaming his own inadequacy. Yamato, who had been on the verge of breaking down himself, was unable to express his feelings properly, but he felt that watching Taichi in those moments, had in a way, saved him. If Taichi had not been by his side, Yamato would undoubtedly have broken down completely.
Ever since witnessing such things, Taichi has made saving children his absolute priority. His resolve became so unwavering that for a while, the children in the Sanctuary were actually afraid of him. Over time he learnt to put on a slightly more light-hearted façade.
However, the moment Taichi senses even the slightest sign of trouble, his expression hardens once more. Depending on the situation, he does not hesitate to resort to rather drastic measures.
And it is clear that as their battles continue, Taichi continues to place his utmost trust in Yamato and Gabumon.

So I started working on these translations yesterday and today morning, the final part of 13+ dropped late afternoon and I almost gave up.
But I have now tweaked and edited the draft, and am putting this out there for whoever wants to read.
The reason I have picked these 3 particular chapters from Part 2 is because it gives us Yamato lol but also gives us background about Natsuko Takaishi and the kids that were abducted by a 02 villain, it has Yamato/Takeru interaction and then also sheds light on how travel to the Digital World is being controlled. I am not posting the screenshots of the Japanese texts, as it it will take up space, but before every chapter I'll mention the exact pages the text is referring to.
As I am posting this, Kakudo has uploaded a full consolidated text to his blog, which would fix any typos he may have made so far. I just don't have the time to cross reference this now, so please bear with the translation of the older pdfs.
13+ PDF Part 2, Chapter 19, Pages 80-82.
A forest came into view the car park of the roadside station. As twilight fell and it became impossible to make out what lay in the depths, something stirred there. From the sound of its approach, it was easy to tell that the it wasn't a human.
Shuu Kido held out his laptop from the driver’s seat. [ Note: Kakudo mentioned there are typos in each of the doc which he will revise later, in this page it is written Shin Kido instead of Shuu. However previous chapters established that Shin is at the Sanitorium while Shuu is driving Rui and Takeru around.]
"It’s booted up," Shuu said.
"Thank you!" Takeru responded and held the D3 up towards the screen, "Digital Gate Open!"
A hazy glow appeared on the screen so Takeru took the laptop and pointed it towards the open space in the car park. The light spread out from the screen widely into the open air and almost at the same moment, a black Digimon burst out of the woods. Emerging from the light however, was Garurumon who knocked the black Digimon aside with a single blow. Next to appear from the light was Yamato.
"We made it just in time," Yamato said.
“Cutting it pretty close, though."
As Takeru replied to his brother, Iori and Armadimon emerged from the light.
"For now, we’ll hold them off here," Iori said.
"Let’s get started, then!" Armadimon added.
"You can count on us!" Came Garurumon's cry.
"Make sure your phone’s fully charged," Yamato said [looking pointedly at Takeru].
"I know, I know," Takeru replied [with a roll of his eyes] while closing the door to the car. The car immediately sped off towards its destination, Koushiro's Lab.
From the depths of the forest where Garurumon had sent the Digimon flying earlier, several more large, black Digimon appeared and were about to step onto the road.
“No need to hold back, Iori,” Yamato said.
“I know.”
Iori raised his D3, and Armadimon emitted a light of evolution.

"Don't worry, I’m going to stay alert."
Takeru was charging his smartphone using the charger in Shuu Kido’s car.
"Well, with a laptop it was much easier for Garurumon to jump out without warning, right?" Shuu wondered aloud.
With Takeru occupied with his phone in the passenger seat, Rui found himself with nothing much to do so he looked at his Digivice.
It looked more outdated than the ones he saw Taichi and the others use. But it doesn’t resemble Takeru’s D3 either, nor does it have the ability to open Digital Gates. Does it even work at all, Rui wondered. Even at Koushiro's Lab, they couldn't figure out whether it was actually a Digivice or just something else designed to look like one.
Over time it has become clear that one of the key functions of a Digivice is that it allows people to prolong their stay in the Digital World, those without one cannot remain there for too long. This function came to light as there were instances where members of the military or criminal organisations had forcibly entered the Digital World through Digital Gates that the PH had happened to pass through.
These humans had entered the Digital World hoping to make use of Digimon for their own twisted purposes, but after a while, things began to go wrong. Even with the pressure of surviving without a Digimon partner or Digivice, when attacked by vicious Digimon they came to know that standard firearms are of no use. Thus, it became a known fact that partner Digimon were essential for survival in the Digital World.
And then of course Digivices, earned that necessity status too. Those who were lucky enough to return to the human world reported that they had failed because they lacked both. Another rule came to light which was that a Digivice received by one person would rarely work if held by another. This meant that lending, borrowing or stealing them was pointless.
As there was no guarantee that Rui's Digivice would work in the Digital World, currently Takeru and Shuu could not use the Digital Gate to travel and had no choice but to use the usual means of transport in the human world. However as their car began to approach Tokyo, they noticed that one motorbike sped past in the opposite lane. Then two cars that followed made a U-turn, trapping Shu’s car between them.

Its main duties include fostering positive relations between the human world and the Digital World, as well as ensuring the safety of Partner Humans (PHs) who have Partner Digimon. Taichi Yagami is also a member of staff at this organisation.
Yamato and Iori travelled to the Digital World via a gate from this office, and were able to make their return after opening a gate on Shuu’s computer.
Apart from Noriko Kawada, who had assisted with this specific operation, there were many university student volunteers who worked out of this office, often taking turns to carry out activities within the Sanctuary that had been created in the Digital World.
Takashi Yoshizawa and Hiroshi Shibata, who had also become PHs in early 2003 just like Noriko, were driving the two cars flanking Shuu’s vehicle, each accompanied by their partner Digimon. They were providing an escort until Takeru's group reached Koushiro's laboratory. Although they had little combat experience, they still volunteered for this task believing they could be of some use in a situation like this.
Another member of the group, Keiko Kurata, arrived on her motorbike at the roadside station where Yamato and Iori were waiting with their partners. The battle with the black Digimon had just ended.
"Sorry to have kept you waiting," Keiko said.
Whilst travelling via the gate has many advantages, it also has its drawbacks. When returning from wherever you’ve been, the gate won’t open straight away unless there’s a suitable computer or similar device on hand. If you use your own mobile phone to open the gate, you’ll have to leave it at the location it was used at, and so on.
That’s why Keiko had now brought a mobile phone specifically to be used for opening the gate in this location, to help Yamato and Iori.
"Digital Gate Open!" Iori pointed the D3 at this spare phone, a gate opened on the smartphone screen.
"Please meet up with Taichi and the others in the Digital World." Keiko relayed the message to them.
"What about Jou's place? Are they alright?" Yamato asked.
"It seems they’ve aot enough people over there for now," Keiko said.
"I see."
After seeing Yamato and the others cross through the gate, Kurata’s motorbike sped off towards Tokyo once again.
