my name is milan, but you lovelies can call me mila. i go by she/her pronouns.

i've been in the shifting community since 2020(yes, i'm a shifttok victim. let's start a support group 💔). i took a break from the shifting community in 2022, and i've just gotten back into it this year.

about this blog

i started this blog to be in community with other shifters and keep a personal diary of my shifting journey. i primarily post about my hogwarts dr, where i'm a shacklebolt hier, but i also have a fame dr. (posts coming in the future??)

i've mini-shifted a few times and i can't wait to share my shifting experiences with you all!

in my hogwarts dr, i allowed for quite a bit more flexibility regarding wand materials and apperances. here's a look into mine!

Material

Bronze + Glass

Bronze is somewhat rare for a wand. it's heavier than wood, cold to the touch, and known for its strength in channeling protective and justice-based magic. It reflects my conviction, my pride, and my durability. Bronze wands tend to bond best with witches and wizards who are both practical and fiercely idealistic. Glass is both a delicate but potent complement, the glass amplifies finesse, clarity, and precision. The contrast of glass with bronze displays a dual nature: grounded, strong, self-aware, but still imaginative and daring.

Core

Dreamweaver silk

A filament spun from dreamweaver spiders, hum faintly when woven into a wand. It specializes in charms, illusion, and perception-heavy magic. Wands with this core thrive in the hands of imaginative spellcasters; people who can blur the line between reality and invention. It matches my desire to spin intangible ideas into reality (whether designs, harmless pranks, or grander, more dangerous plans).

Flexibility

Somewhat rigid. intentional, like me.

Not easily swayed, resistant to change unless the wielder chooses it. it is perfectly attuned to my personality. decisive, strong-willed, and unwilling to compromise on my values unless there’s a calculated reason.

my experience with (some) professors in my hogwarts dr

Minerva McGonagall

my first impression of McGonagall was that she would be super strict. and don't get me wrong, she certainly can be. as long as you don't cause needless ruckus and generally do what is asked of you, she's great. McGonagall holds her students to a very high standard, but she understands that we're still kids at the end of the day. i've never had a problem getting an extension on an assignment or anything for her classes. i will say; she has a nature of being able to know a student's true intentions regarding almost any action. so, if you do get caught and/or questioned regarding something something you were not supposed to be doing, there's no point in lying. she'll know and lying to her only brings more trouble.

Severus Snape

i'll start with a complement, because i see no need to get started on a negative note; the man is intelligent. incredibly so. one of the smartest people i've ever encountered in the wizarding world. however, he has some serious issues. when it comes to my own experience with him, i've found that he treats me like i'm some sort of a liability. like i'm a ticking time bomb or something? he'd call me out for being "distracting" in class if i even looked at someone with anything but a totally neutral expression. then, in classic Snape fashion, put me on the spot for it in front of the class. it was humiliating for obvious reasons, but especially so because i am in Slytherin! i was kind of expecting him to go easier on me. i am honestly just grateful that he didn't have the hate in his heart for me that he had for Harry. as i got older, the war went on, and i learned more about Snape's past. i am able to understand him more. i don't think he's a good man, but he did do good things out of self-preservation. but, my goodness, was he a buzzkill. some of the twins' best works didn't come to fruition because of this man

Albus Dumbledore

i like Dumbledore a lot. he has a very calming presence. he's one of the few adults of hogwarts that can get the entire school to quiet down with only a word. i don't know how else to describe it, he just has an aura of wisdom. he's not incredibly strict either, which i appreciate. when he does have to enforce a rule, he never has to raise his voice in the way that other professors have to. the man is omnipresent in a way. like he'll just know things about students and no one would know how he knew. i remember Dumbledore bringing up the fact that George had asked me to the Yule Ball (as a side bar in conversation, mind you). i was shocked. because i knew that George hadn't told anyone about that, and i hadn't told anyone either. by that point in time, i didn't even question how he knew. he's Dumbledore.

Dolores Umbridge

you know what? before i knew anything about the lady, i almost liked her. i thought her style was tacky, but it was fun, i guess. in a place like hogwarts, that can squeeze the individuality out of a person, her aesthetic was charming... but boy was i WRONG. she hated me instantly. angelina theorized that she was jealous of me. that might have been the case, but i don't think the hate in her heart really had anything to do with me. Umbridge is the epitome of a teacher who was bullied in school, so she come back to terrorize students as an adult. again, since i was in Slytherin, i was hoping she'd take it easy on me. i honestly think it made her hate me even more. i still have scars from her detentions. she'd constantly ask me; "You think you're so popular, don't you? So pretty?" then launch into a rant about how none of those things really matter. and she'd keep talking and talking. a genuine fucking nightmare. also her perfume is low-quality, and gave everyone headaches. Here's a short diary entry of mine about her. (it's paraphrased , i don't remember it word-for-word sorry) I am everything Umbridge cannot be: smart, witty, effortlessly charming, and morally grounded. Umbridge is everything I despise: superficial, manipulative, and insecure about her own status.

Remus Lupin

let's end on a positive note, shall we? Lupin was always so incredibly kind to all of his students, not in a sappy way, but he treated all of his students as people. he was one of the few adults in my life who treated me as a multifaceted human being. having him as a teacher was great practice for living in the adult world. at hogwarts, there are a lot of students that refuse to treat each other as equals. i think that having a professor that treated his students like Lupin did was great for many people. i think there were times that he could've been a tad more strict, but honestly the fun that we were able to have thanks to him was worth it. there were many things regarding the wizarding world and hogwarts that i could tell he really wanted to change, but didn't have the power to.

I love the Wizarding world with all of my heart, but there are aspects of wizard society that genuinely concern me. think of this as an expansion of my last post, but regarding general society and not just Hogwarts. once again, this is all in good fun, i'm just sharing what i noticed.

light TW for discrimination and death

there is confirmed, empirical evidence for immortal souls and the general public is completely okay with the destruction of the soul as a form of punishment. Dare I say that this is worse than the typical death penalty?  there is no sure way to know if you have been the victim of a memory charm. there could be years of information missing from your memory and you'd have no idea. why is Obliviate not an unforgivable curse?  love potions are handled WAY too casually. It’s strange especially after finding out about the unfortunate Meropie and Tom Sr situation. you’d think that with how easily they can be abused, the Ministry would have more restrictions on love potions. alas, they sit in joke shops alongside chocolate frogs. the fact that a rogue wizard has yet to reveal magic to the muggle general public is baffling. It’s been centuries, and yet nothing? i will add, this is a common sentiment among my schoolmates. we joke about who will be first to break from time to time. slavery, segregation, racism, and classism is so normalized. And when you call it out people act like you're being unreasonable or crazy. mind you, this is all primarily perpetuated through normal everyday wizards and witches. Wizarding society has yet to have major non-violent civil rights movements like what has been seen in muggle society, so some of these concepts are genuinely foreign to some wizards.  Bellatrix Lestrange is the most TERRIFYING witch or wizard i've ever encountered. that woman was the scariest. More than Voldemort, more than Greyback, i don’t care what anyone says! she's the physical embodiment of the word "sinister" The Order sucks, i hate to say it. they teach Harry like, nothing. and if they teach him anything at all, it's far too late. all they do is stalk Harry, watch a door, and then they got Harry to the Weasley’s that one time. sure, they showed up to the Battle, but day to day at most they send out 16 and 17 year olds to do their bidding. beggars can't be choosers, so i just do what i can for the cause.

I love being a student at Hogwarts, but there are certainty parts of my experience that remind me that it's still school at the end of the day. I made this shortlist of Hogwarts Ridiculousness that one would likely endure as a student. please remember that this is all in good fun and a slice of school life <3 (also, happy new year!)

Moving staircases SUCK. like I'm literally losing house points because my route to class is ten minutes longer than it was yesterday due to some damn staircase. 😑

Careers are based on arbitrary marks by individual teachers and not by an education board. Different professors require different OWLS marks to take their classes. There's no board or organization that decides this.

Wildly different punishments for the same offense. Maybe this is a good incentive for some to just do whatever, but I’d like some more predictability; Thank you very much. 

Peeves will get to you. He gets EVERYONE at some point. He gave a handful of students cat ears and paws in my third year. We looked like a mini furry convention for a week, and it was very difficult to use a quill.

Hogwarts has no general store on grounds. Forgot a toothbrush? Need more knickers or socks? Too bad you have to wait until a trip to Hogsmeade to get a new one.

No Sex ed, no foreign languages, no maths beyond first year, no political science NOTHING. I was so jealous of the other European schools that taught multiple languages.

Your career can be determined by electives that you pick when you're like twelve. 

If you’re from Scotland or even Manchester you have to travel all the way down to London to take the train back up to Scotland. 

The Triwizard Tournament is such a snooze fest. The audience genuinely can’t see anything. Someone could’ve been dead in the Black Lake and we would know nothing!

If you have been in online shifting or quantum jumping spaces for a decent amount of time, it’s likely that you may have heard of the infamous “CIA documents” that are supposed to prove that shifting is real. When I was a baby shifter in the trenches of ShiftTok in 2020- 2021, I heard about these papers constantly. However, I was never able to get a decent grasp on what the document(s) were, their original purpose, and what about them proved that shifting was real. ShiftTok really was moving on a “trust me, bro” system. 

So…. The goal of this post is to promote transparency around this document in particular, along with the science and theory surrounding shifting as a whole. 

I am aware that this is quite different from my usual tumblr posts, so please let me know if you like it!

origins + goals 

The paper that is constantly referred to as some of the most official and concrete shifting evidence that exists (of course, outside of personal experiences and anecdotes) is titled: Analysis and Assessment of The Gateway Process. It was written in 1983 by United States Army Lieutenant Col. Wayne M. McDonnell, and declassified by the CIA. 

This paper’s origins were a result of Cold War era research into human potential and consciousness exploration. It was heavily influenced by the Monroe Institute, which studied out-of-body experiences using audio frequencies called hemi-sync. (If you have any interest in hemi-sync audios, there are plenty on youtube.). There was also a particular cultural fascination with subjects such as remote viewing, ESP (extrasensory perception), and psychic phenomena in 1970s and 80s America. McDonnell worked to combine neuroscience, psychology, and speculative physics to explain how meditation or sound could allow out-of-body travel and/or contact with alternate dimensions. Basically, the paper’s goal was to scientifically explain how consciousness could expand beyond the physical body using the hemi-sync methods of the Monroe Institute.

Claim #1

Audio tones can synchronize the left and right brain hemispheres, creating a resonance that allows for deeper consciousness and potential out-of-body experiences. The Monroe Institute used binaural beats (sound familiar?). Binaural beats send slightly different frequencies in each ear that can create a third tone in the brain (the beat).  

Claim #2

This claim references physicist David Bohm’s Holographic Universe model; a theory that suggests reality’s information is stored like a hologram. McDonnell shares that physical reality is a holographic projection from a higher level of energy and the brain can tune into the “universal hologram”

Sidebar: keep in mind that “Holographic principles” are mathematical concepts in quantum gravity, not literal holograms. So usually, when this term is referenced, it's about how information is encoded in spacetime (not really how we can project new realities). 

Claim #3

Since energy cannot be destroyed, human consciousness must be an energy form that exists after death and exists outside of the body. This claim is interpreting the law of conservation of energy in a less literal way. While it is hard to know if consciousness exists as a standalone energy field, scientists do know for sure that the brain's activity involves electrical energy. Because astral projection is such a subjective experience, despite its many similarities among different reports, connecting the law of conservation of energy to this claim can prove to be difficult. 

Claim #4

The mind can resonate with other planes. This is stated using terms like “Planck’s distance,” and “quantum tunnelling.” If this is truly how shifting mechanically works, it is likely not like this. Now, I say this because quantum effects happen on atomic and subatomic scales. The brain being macroscopic, is too large for these kinds of effects to take place. This seems to be a misinterpretation on McDonnell’s part. But what do I know you guys, I’m just a teenager on tumblr.

Claim #5

More advanced users can move their consciousness outside of time and space, merging with the absolute (a cosmic state of oneness or something like that). This is primarily in reference to spiritual experiences. This reflects many people’s experiences of astral projecting, mediation, or even near- death experiences. When people experience timeless or spaceless states, the (more) scientific term to use is an altered state of consciousness. Of course there is no empirical evidence that a person experiencing an altered state of consciousness is literally outside of space-time. But, these things are relative anyways so… who cares how real it is to anyone else, am I right?

Claim #6 (last one i pinky promise) McDonnell thinks that the army could use this stuff for intelligence or remote viewing and that soldiers might be able to project consciousness to gather information from afar. The CIA and U.S. military ended up funding physic research like “project stargate”. The programs were discontinued in the 1990s (from what we know of).

Final Takeaways 

Regardless of what the CIA, scientists, or random people on the internet say. Your experiences are the most real of them all, how subjective or objective they are be damned. Your experiences are your own and they should be treasured above all. However, it is still interesting to learn about the possible science and mechanics that are behind shifting.
