“Oh, no you were fine. You were a little grouchy right after you fell down, but otherwise you were a gentleman… you know, a really drunk dirty wet drunk asshole gentleman.” She shrugged, before shooting him an understanding smile. “Don’t worry about it, seriously. Everyone has off days.” 

“I’m glad I wasn’t terribly difficult.” He really was. He felt bad enough about putting Hank through his shenanigans. Speaking of...Hank, right, he was trying to find Hank. Charles looked around the room. “Do you know if there’s anywhere else people might go...?”

“We met,” she blurted out before he had the chance to say anything more. “Like three months ago? You got drunk and fell in the mud and…” She trailed off, realizing this train of thought was perhaps a mistake to speak out loud. But there was no going back now.  “…Yeah. That was you, right?” 

And he was even less on form now, if that was at all possible. He couldn’t stop fidgeting. “I didn’t say anything untoward, did I? I don’t remember a lot of what happened...I mean, you I remember, but half of what I said, uhm...” People were giving him odd looks. He realized how that much have sounded. “Well. This is quite the happenstance.”

A process like that can’t be easy.
