Sadly I have this worrying feeling that if even one aspect of the fantasy novel that I’m working on is a bit hokey or unbelievable, people will despise it.

I never read D&D books nor have I played it.

The thing about being autistic with low support needs is that non autistic folks can't tell that you're autistic but they know that something is Wrong with you.

This makes them uncomfortable. And they don't know how to deal with that feeling so surely you must be punished

It’s so evil on their part.

So many shitty people have gladly used autistic (and autist) as insults over the past 12 years.

They mean it as a synonym for “retarded”, which is also a disgusting insult. Of course these shitty people will still use the latter insult.

I also remember that godawful people use “weaponized autism” as a description to laud creepy, obsessive, bitter people who stalked other people and spread nonstop lies and hatred.

One of my favourite things in urban fantasy literature is when an author clearly likes the idea of wizard boarding school drama, but wants to avoid getting any Harry Potter stink on them and tries to accomplish that by simply bluntly inverting all the stuff they regard as problematic, and in so doing independently reinvents the X-Men.

If you want a wizard school series that’s urban fantasy, try Soul Eater. The manga and the anime are very good.

OK, the characters aren’t wizards per se, but there are witches, strange creatures, and a lot of magic involved.
