UTMV Headcannons For Dream And Nightmare
This is just for my personal version! I am, in no way, saying my version is better, just my preference
I don’t personally see them both as Sans variants, so I usually draw them with longer heads than the other AU’s, and I also would color their bodies a bit different. I like the idea of them being made of moondust (Nightmare) and stardust (Dream), making them less fragile than the other Sans’, but also not as solid as the others. Meaning Dream (and Nightmare when he was passive) will actually break apart into dust when hurt, then they can reform into solid bone again.
Their sizes will change with how they’re feeling, but in different ways. Dreams neutral version is only a bit smaller than Nightmare’s. However, He shrinks a bit with anger, and his body gets a bit more solid. When he’s afraid, the same thing happens, but he gets a bit larger than average. When he’s happy, he’ll get larger than most of the other sans’, and he can glow a bit. When he’s sad, he’ll shrink to even Ink’s size.
Nightmare will get bigger with anger, and to the size of a normal sans whenever he’s happy. When sad or afraid, he’ll shrink a bit. He’s usually angry or calm, and calm is just a bit above happy.
Speaking of Nightmare, he always needs to be solid to keep the goop on his body. The goop will kinda stay solid when he’s calm, letting him move more like a normal Sans. When he’s upset/stressed, it’s drip a lot and even form more, adding to his already increasing size. He is able to turn back into his passive form, but it’s only when he’s completely calm.
Both brothers can control their size btw, but they have to consciously do so, or their abilities will act on their own. It’s kinda like choosing to breathe slow when you’re scared, despite the fact your body wants to freak out.
Dream is able to give humans positive emotions by being around them. For example, I have a human oc who gets anxiety or hallucinations. Whenever she’s within a few feet of him, these will go away and she can relax. ALSO whenever anyone sleeps near him, monster or human, they will have good dreams. He also has a natural aura to monsters, making them gravitate to him.
Nightmare does the opposite. He naturally gives humans negative emotions. If the same oc goes around Nightmare, her anxiety (and sometimes her hallucinations) will get worse. He’d also give others nightmares, and he gives off a bad aura.
They can control whether or not they give humans different emotions, but Dream didn’t know he does it, so he’s never tried to surprise the ability (but I doubt he would)
Instead of passive being completely gone, I like to think Nightmares transformation was just all his negative emotions taking over, altering his entire personality and giving him multiple issues. The years of his brother turned into stone really gave him time to get worse. He still loves his brother, and a part of him genuinely feels bad when he hurts him.
Bonus small stuff:
Nightmare still wears his crown
Nightmares eye has purple AND green in them
Dream and Nightmare both have staffs, and Dream’s staff turns into his bow.
They both have moon/sun engravings in their “bones” that match
