Nevertheless, congratulations. You were presented with a problem, you solved it, and you received the outcome you wanted. This should not be celebrated as a miracle, it should be recognised as evidence that you are considerably more capable than you were pretending to be.

How about a three-step plan?

Step one. Stop calling them the baddies. Nothing evaporates intrigue faster than sounding like a children's cartoon narrator.

Step two. Develop a personality beyond finding other people interesting. Most villains already have enough admirers. What they lack are people capable of holding a conversation without immediately becoming decorative.

And finally, step three, don't chase. Desperation is visible from orbit.
