The Fourth of July, 2019
Red and white stripes streaked across the packaging of a box sitting atop Adamās desk, Henryās favorite place to put his āguess-whoās-home-but-you-knew-that-already-didnt-youā gifts. The lapis blue tag sprawled Adamās true name in beautiful black calligraphy.
His true gift, however, was heavily poured into a book, the lock on Adamās door loud enough that should any one come in, he would normally snap right out of his focus.
Except, today, his focus was heavy on this particular, foreign book with no name on itās cover. He didnt notice as the energy he was so comfortable with slipped near, and thus his normal alert left him.
He smiled at the familiar presence and sighed. While he was confident there existed very little that could pose a threat to Henry, It was always a good feeling to know Hubby was home. His eyes caught the blue tag and the bookĀ
āul-la kƬri[KA]-usan ki-ƔƱ {it is truly a wonderful evening my beloved} A bit mean, but you know how I love it when you tease. Youāve been off and are home from an adventure that I want to hear about and yet youāve distracted me with a new book.Ā āFirst things first, love, Welcome home.ā
Henry didnt seem to react too poorly to being snapped out of his trance like reading. The only sign he had been startled at all was the slight tensing in the muscles aling his back.
But he knew who it was. His entire being knew that energy. He closed the book and set it down as he stood up, looking to Adam with a soft smile. "It truely is good to be back," he said quietly, walking closer wrapping his arms around the other tightly.
What gives you nostalgia?
My daughter's eyes. If I look to deep into them, I remember the times I spent with my deceased wife.
How would you describe yourself?
I prefer not to think too hard on my own personal self.
But I know I would definitely call myself lucky.
10. What is the scariest moment you've had in public?
The time I lifted a train. Does that count as public?

"Make sure you bring a jacket." He said quietly as he watched Adam pack from the doorway of their room. His love had to leave for a trip, and, despite the fact he genuinely understood that and that he had seemed genuinely normal (outside of his night terrors even Adam couldn't seem to prevent), here he stood in their door looking more like a broken child than a nearly 500 year old vampire. It was the first Henry had shown what his recent trauma had done to him. "It is going to be cold."
He didnāt want to go any more than Henry wanted him to go. Why did things always have to happen when one of them got home? Oh well, heād add it to the list of reasons to do horrible things to the Fates once he found out where they lived.
āThe quicker itās done the sooner Iāll be back. It shouldnāt be too bad though.ā
Henry attempted what should have been an amused smile, but came off disheartened. "I know." His voice held the same attempt at normalcy he had been carrying with him the last few weeks since his return from an even that he seemed desperate to pretend didn't happen. "But regardless of how long you're-- there," his voice broke as he tried to say 'gone,' "it will be cold..."

Henry didnāt answer immediately as his stomach churned. He hesitated the answer. āNo coco.ā He murmured almost nervously; he didnāt want Adam to worry more than he already did. He sighed softly as he sat up (a slight flinch stopping him at first as he had moved a bit too fast, but then a bit slowly to complete the task).
Henry glanced to Adam with a half smile, a half shrug. āA bath and Netflix binge sounds good, thoughā¦ā
Adam watched Henry for a moment.Ā
āTake your time, Love. Thereās no need to hurry. You are home and safe. Youāve got all the time in the world to recover.ā
That didn't illicit the answer Henry wanted from himself; on the contrary, his brain seemed to stop as though a cog was interrupted. He sighed softly and nodded briefly once his brain began functioning again. "I know. I have dried blood on me that I would greatly like to wash off." He supplied softly.
He blood was... his, Urians and it seemed like at least three other's. But the strange thing was he was covered in a green substance that oddly smelt like blood as well.
askhenrysturges:
Sleep was found peacefully enough, even if dreams werenāt. The pain of prior couldnāt be felt nearly as strongly, thanks to the delightful opiots, and yet every touch still illecited a flinch as though either anticipating pain or being struck.
Hee slept off and on in fits of unstirred slumber for at least twelve hours, the bits of waking in panicked anxiety only to look around and relax back into sleep again.
Twelve hours passed and he finally woke from this pattern, his eyes blinking open before the younger sat up with a small frown, but no majorly apparent discomfort. It meant he had done a lot of healing while he slept, enough to heal what major injuries he had sustained.
There was little Adam could do to help while Henry slept. He stayed close and made sure there would be fresh blood when he woke.Ā
Between his own naps rage came ever closer to the surface. Henry had asked him what the worst thing he had done in his long years was before he had left. Some of what he had imagined doing to the person who had so hurt his husband came close to matching those horrid deeds back in Old Rome.Ā
He watched the bruises shift and change color, healing was good. Physically, at least, it seemed to be coming along fine..
He swallowed the rage and the fantasies as Henry came to again.
āYou want to try to drink something Hun?āĀ
Henry frowned at the question, a puzzling, confused frown as he looked at his love a few moments. The question didnāt register at first, and he thoroughly didnāt understand for a few moments. Finally, something clicked and he smiled a small bit, nervously, only to shake his hhead no. āHonestly I feel as though if i eat, i may be ill ..ā he said, reaching over to grab Adamās hand tightly.
Adam nodded as Henry took his hand.
āWe can still go out to the new cabin Lincoln made? Obviously what happened to you was bad. I have to admit that Iāve been contemplating visiting equal horrors on the responsible persons. But you are what matters to me, not vengeance. So lets get a few books together, some blankets and head out to the cabin.ā
The younger of the two, his eyes on Adamās and his joined hands, shook his head gently with a tiny smile. āI would rather be home.ā He stated quietly, his other hand coming up to join the other, a finger gently run ing along Adamās hand, tracing the marks and lines.
Adam smiled softly as Henry traced the veins in his hand. He leaned forward and left a soft kiss on a cheek. āAs you wish. Iāll have all the coco you could drink brought to our room. A warm bath drawn and so much netflixā¦. seriously some tv binging.ā
Henry didn't answer immediately as his stomach churned. He hesitated the answer. "No coco." He murmured almost nervously; he didn't want Adam to worry more than he already did. But⦠What if I want to show off Henry?
Glass+sun=ow.
askhenrysturges:
The younger vampireās eyes darkened as memory resurfaced. He frowned deeply and looked around. Convinced again that he was safe, and home, he sighed softly and looked up to Adam with a soft sigh. āWas there⦠any one else with us?ā He asked, subconsciously rubbing his own neck where a pair of puncture scars were, with wrists scarred and bruised from shackles.
Actually, he was littered in scars every where. Every where but the side he rubbed. There, only two sat, perfectly in place. Another vampire had bitten him.
Adam didnāt want to bring up ill memories by pointing out the wounds and scars, or to incite his own anger.Ā
Green eyes looked to Henry.
āNo one was that stupid to come in here. I would have ripped them apart without thinking. When you appeared in the pillow fort you were alone and I have been by your side ever since.ā
The news seemed to relax the younger. He nodded a slight bit, sighing softly and closing his eyes as exhaustion began to settle in again, or maybe the pain meds. He didnāt know, nor care, why he was so tiredā¦. He just knew he needed to relax. Henry gripped Adamās hand tightly, swallowing hard. āCould we go some where?ā He asked in a quiet, pleading voice. Every instinct he had was to flee; to hideā¦
Adam nodded.Ā
āLincoln got frustrated a couple weeks ago, little bit boredom, little bit something mumbled that he dreamed he had been magically turned into a cat when I went to see what was going on. He headed into the forest just on the other side of the swamp. He chopped down enough trees that he built a log cabin. We can go there?ā
The younger of the two gave Adam a curious look. He would have to ask Abraham about thatā¦.because a whole log cabin was a lot. He closed his eyes again and moved closer to Adam only to fight the pang of pain that strung down his spine with a sigh. The pain killers were finally starting to kick in, or he had run out of energyā¦either way, he was starting to get drowsy again. But he couldnāt sleepā¦. āplease lay with meā¦ā he mumbled, losing the battle for consciousness as he laid back down.
Being in Adamās presence meant safety. Being in Adamās arms meant perfect safety, even if something happenedā¦
Adam gathered the sheets and blankets, making sure Henry was comfortable and laid on his side, holding Henry close to him. He couldnāt help that his grip might be a bit tighter than their usual way of sleepingā¦he was feeling protective. Moments had come when he could hardly control his rage while bandaging and moping up blood. More than once he had quietly asked for the name of who was about to be obliterated planet earthā¦
But Henry meant more to him. He would not leave or risk further injury. Henryās health came first.Ā

He watched as Adam knelt, lip curling to expose fangs. As Adam only neared, black eyes tracked him without focus, merely on survival, he was watching Adamās every move. It was probably for the best he didnāt have enough in him to be able to focus on seeing the movement of curious strays behind Adam as they peeked in.
It was then that something happened. Adam spoke and it wasnāt an order, nor a command but it was a definitive plan. The vicious defence nearly vanished and, while he was still on guard, it was clear Henry was going to be far more compliant.
His brain had recognized what was close enough to a command from his master.
The growling stopped, his talons restricted and his black eyes searched Adam beseechingly. He didnāt recognize his husband. But, then, he wasnāt himself, either. The younger of the two was fasr too tired, too weak, to speak or moveā¦but he was far fro m a threat. His eyes fluttered closed slowly as he became nothing more than a living corpse, blacking out in the safety of his masterās care.
Oh hell. There might be a half dozen reasons Henry stopped fighting, none of the good but he hoped it wasnāt the most obvious possibility. He lifted up his husband and headed to their privet quarters. IVs would be the quickest way to get blood into him, but were also the quickest to cause further injury in a moment of half-consciousness. He set the idea aside for the immediate time.Ā
The silver solvent had to be first to treat the wound on his hand. The herbal wraps and bandages both for the hand and to ease other wounds. Balms to sooth pain. Whatever had happened to Henry had been vicious and cruel. It was difficult to swallow his anger for the time being, far more important to get Henry fit enough to wake up. That he could have helped also had to be pushed out of his mind. Before Henry left he had made it clear this was something he had had to do on his own.Ā
Adam had, for Henryās sake and comfort, placed an old gold cross where he would see them when he woke. Farther back, but still visible a small statue of his own patron deity. How Henry had made it home was a thought that occurred to him as he spooned hot blood, careful to watch for choking or waking. There had been no approach, no shortening distance. Just⦠there he was, this fucked up.Ā
It would be days before the vampire truly woke. He stirred, certainly, here or there; mostly returning to that feral state of defense until his mind clicked with his surroundings. He was with the one person he would never defend himself against.
Then, once his mind and body had healed a little bit more (enough for him to, finally, rest), he simply slept. The vampire slept but not happily. Soft whimpering and cries of pain accompanied even the slightest movement, breathing included, and occasionally came out of the blue. Nightmares plagued him even with Adam right next to him whispering and singing. Nothing helped to relieve them in the slightest bit.
That all lasted a day or so, Henry waking periodically but not consciously aware of his surroundings nor responsive to anything other than, possibly, a direct order from only Adam. He quickly would black back out.
This time it was different. He gave a soft groan of complete discomfort, masking the intense pain he still felt, and slowly pushed himself up only to gasp sharply and collapse back down onto the bed, seeing stars in the sudden flood of bright white that had accompanied his pain. After a moment, having learnt his lesson, he opened his eyes slowly to look for the presence he could smell and feel near him. The only reason he wasnt in a complete panic. He knew Adam was beside himā¦
Naturally he had been napping when Henry first tried to sit up.. the nightmares hadnāt been this bad in a century or so. Here or there sure, but not this intense or frequent.. it all pointed in the direction that this was bad. Exhausted he had fallen asleep for a few minutes. As his husband collapsed he snapped awake.
A gentle touch came when he was sure Henry was awake. He didnāt want to panic him if he was half-dreaming.
āHey Love⦠Iāll get the pain killer..ā
He had left it on the dresser, just a few steps away. He mixed a few drops into a glass of hot blood and if the offered blood wasnāt welcome at the moment he brought the vial back to the bed.
āYou are home. I donāt know how you got here, but you are home. In Eden. Drink this and it will help take the pain away.ā
The gentle touch was welcome, and he leaned into it, despite fighting the flinch of pain he hid. He was just too desperate for that contact from his love. āYou have no idea how glad to see you I amā¦ā He whispered, watching him leave and return with the blood, spiked with that potion. He reached over and took it willingly, despite the fact the mere sight clearly made him feel sick to his stomach. He downed the blood with the hunger of a dying man, but immediately looked as though he had to fight to keep it from coming back up.
After coughing a couple times, a fight with his own body that he won, he slowly sat up again. āWhereā¦.how did I get here? How did you find me??ā His eyes glittered with gratitude and wonder.
āHow you got here, I canāt say⦠No approach in, you were just there. Almost like a teleportation. You were in the pillow fort, closer to dead than Iāve seen you in a long time. You fought one hell of a fight, hun.ā
Adam was having to fight off the urge to hug Henry, not wanting to excite obviously frayed and already alight nerve ends. He didnāt want to cause Henry any pain. Not until the pain killer kicked in to offer any help that it could⦠He settled for a soft kiss to a cheek and hand holding.
