Oh I apologize for the outburst, Sir. I simply do not appreciate unwarranted psychoanalysis. We get enough of that even when alone. While I would prefer my death not be by our own hands as my brothers wonāt allow for such an exit, I donāt think now would be a good time to die. After all, theyāve finally shut up for once and I donāt get this type of peace often.
I sought you out for a rather silly reason, Iām afraid. Weāre both named Simon. Weāre both from England, unfortunately for me. I was hoping perhaps by entrusting this case with you I could expand my rather small social circle. Ever since I ādiedā, Iāve had difficulty finding companionship. I do apologize in advance for any outbursts or concerning behavior I may exhibit, I was tortured for 4 years and occasionally experience delusions. At least thatās what my brothers say, you can choose to believe them or not.
Being the persecutor is a very difficult job, you know. I much preferred my old role.

*Athena looks put out, and objects*
Well if you all don't want questions asked then maybe your fellows should stop telling people how unstable you are, anyone would want to know what that's about! And all the muttering under your breath, a girl can only ignore it for so long!
*Simon, for his part, takes in what he is being told, and relaxes his grip on his hilt somewhat.*
Hpmf. Not the worst reason to seek a specific prosecutor I suppose, if a tad odd. If you're hoping for an Englishman who particularly cares about his homeland, you're fat out of luck, though. And yes, prosecutorial work is rather tricky, though more...straight forward than my associates work. Personally I find it the only thing worth doing these days.
*Simon chuckles as Athena cries out "hey!" Though Athena's expression softens somewhat as the other Simon mentions his past experiences.*
Well, our Simon needs to make new friends too, he's positively hopeless in that regard. And lonely-
-I am not lonely, I have enough friends-
-Two people does not a healthy personal life make, Simon! And distrustful and lonely do not cancel each other out!
*she smiles, flashing a peace sign*
I'll let you two get to know each other, ciao! Call me if you need anything Simon!
*she turns to go, leaving the two Simon's alone.*
...so, prosecutor. What was your old role, that you so deeply miss?
((continued from here with @ask-the-layton-system , sorry for the delay!))
My role now is to protect us by any means necessary, even if I have to go to extreme lengths to ensure it. This has led to my brothers labeling me āunstableā and not letting me take control often.
Hopefully thatās finally given you enough clues to figure out what our deal is. If not, then maybe your knowledge of psychology leaves much to be desired.
My old role was simply to be the host. I used to be popular, if you can believe it. I was happy and joyful and all those other luxuries Iām no longer allowed. But then I ādiedā, and now Iām here.
Now, onto the case at hand, do you think you could take over the prosecution? If you told my brothers yes already I apologize, I donāt share many memories with them.
And yes, I can see why that would be rather exhausting. Were you hoping I would acknowledge your position outright? It seemed rather unnecessary, unless you mean for me to deduce individual roles.
I'm familiar with the loss of one's luxury in regards to being light and...hopeful. Cykes-dono seems to think that can come back, but I believe that to be rather wishful thinking on her part.
I had discussed it somewhat with your brothers, though I'd not signed the paperwork yet. I've no objections to taking a case at present. There is a break in the workload for once, the chief prosecutor has taken more cases then usual for himself, leaving less for the rest of us. I'm told that's typical of him, this time of year, and the others seem to think it a bloody blessing to be without something to do in the holiday season.
Your brother mentioned it was a shooting, and alluded to a possible victim, but was rather sparse on the details, though I'm told there is a suspect that there is a strong case against. if you have more details to illuminate the case with, I'd be much obliged.
Oh itās quite a relief that you arenāt going to make a big deal out of our- out of my situation. Thank you.
The holiday season is often quite stressful for us, especially since Father returned. But I prefer having something to do to keep my mind off⦠things.
Yes, the case itself is in regard to a shooting. A young woman perished a few days ago after getting into an altercation with someone. She was shot twice in these chest, one in the lung and one in the heart. We have three suspects, but I already have an idea of who the true killer is.

*Simon places a protective hand in front of Athena, pushing her back somewhat. Athena shoots him a look, elbowing him. She doesn't mention if widget is telling her anything new.*
Do you maybe need to sit down? Looks like a nasty headache, I'm sure Mr. Edgeworth won't mind if you slow down a little. I'll get you some water!
.....If, indeed, you have your man, and he has been properly arrested and processed I could prosecute. Based on your assessment that this killer is "Brilliant" I assume there to be something significant about the case thus far....
*Simon takes the papers, and begins to read them. He will not sign anything he does not know the contents of.*
Is there a particular reason then, that you have sought me instead of referring to the prosecutors office? What is known thus far?
*Athena returns with the water, smiling brightly as she hands it over. Simon continues filing through the papers, tutting occasionally. If everything is order he will sign.*
"Where was the suspect picked up? motive? means? You mentioned a pistol, was it a gunshot, or were you being dramatic?"
"And, lastly, is there a particular reason you can not argue with them? should I be meeting with them to discuss this, or are you the one calling the shots? this is your investigation I assume."
*Athena cuts in, glancing over Simon's shoulder at the paperwork*
Oh the murder was a truly beautiful sight, Iāll tell you that much. And yes, Iād assume the accused would need a lawyer. Yes the victim was shot. While I am wont to romanticize the crime scene I donāt lie about the facts. Unlike a certain someone who despite literally being Truth Personified is the best liar of all of usā¦
*he clutches his head after that little quip*
Are you quite sure you want to talk to the Sou- to Simon? Heās⦠unstable. But then again thatās what Mind called me and I donāt see him succeeding at interrogations.
If youāre set on meeting with him, however, that can be⦠arranged.
*Simon glances over as the man clutches his head, but continues onward.*
"Would speaking to him be relevant to the case? I am getting the impression there may be...factors you have yet to indulge me in. You seem to be rather split on how you handle things, unless the way we were initially greeted was some pointless kind of act. I do not wish to over complicate matters, but I do desire all the facts."
*Athena butts in, no longer able to hide her curiosity at the comments mumbled under the inspector's breath, nor the curious sounds of their heart*
Who's mind? unstable how? dangerous unstable? difficult to talk to? why does mind think you're unstable? is it because you seem to take enjoyment in the graphic nature of this work, or is there something else?
*Simon shoots Athena a glance, trying to communicate that she may be saying or asking too much at once. she doesn't seem to notice*
Heh. Iām āsplitā. Thatās funny, even though not quite accurate to the situation
*he grits his teeth, clearly struggling with something*
Ugh⦠not now⦠we were just getting to the good partā¦
*he reaches in hand into one of his coat pockets and fishes out a pair of red framed glasses. He puts them on*
*his demeanor changes, as does his hair. It goes from red to more of a blue, and it almost seems to be levitating slightly*
*he turns to Athena, and smiles*
Get the fuck away from us. Now. Im sure by now you know what we are, so Iād advise you to shut up and fuck off. You arenāt our GODDAMN therapist. Ugh you types INFURIATE me!
*he seems taken aback by his own outburst*
ā¦And I thought Al was the angry oneā¦
*he turns back to face Simon, and his attitude shifts to a more friendly manner*
You. I donāt believe weāve met. My name is Simon Layton. Itās a pleasure to meet you.
