Ash was now sprinting back to his shuttle. He had left to finish up one last thing when he had noticed the armed men heading that way. Cassius had been helping Breaker onto the shuttle at this point when Ash made his way on board in an obvious panic. The airlock slamming behind him. "I'm so sorry about this." Was all Ash said before heading to the controls. Without another word he took off, not bothering to strap himself in.
“What-what the hell are you doing?” Cassius had just finished strapping Alda into a crash seat and barely processed what ash was doing before the floor lurched beneath him and he had to snatch at the nearest handhold to keep from falling on top of her.
“I can’t go to your ship!” He wheeled around to shout at Ash’s back as soon as he could regain even a little balance, “I have work-patients to see!”
The roar of the shuttle engines was deafening, he wasn’t even sure Ash could hear him hollering over it and he grabbed for a grip overhead, dragging himself against their acceleration towards the pilots seat.
"Oh! I have a hydroponics bay. I just have these because they are quick and easy to eat. So I drive Breaker less crazy, because I forget. She does most of the cooking." Ash was trying to make casual conversation, to keep his own awkwardness at bay. "Truly if you don't like it let me know. There are plenty of options."
“Hm yeah, less of a space issue and more shit electrical in the lower hive, not that no one grows anything but most things that aren’t fungi are hard to get. Everyone has slab rations anyway so uh, really fruit and vegetables only come out for special occasions.”
He took a tentative bite of one of the bars, more cautious about how his stomach would react to food at the moment then worried about the taste. Strangely it wasn’t much different from slab, although not as dry.
"That's unfortunate." Ash paused for a moment. Thinking about it before suddenly stopping himself, that wasn't a problem he could allow himself to get invested in. He takes a seat again. "I try to spend as little time as possible in hives in general, they're... dirty... and my lack of an immune system doesn't handle it well."
Cassius sort of laughed, grimacing a little.
“Yeah I got sick a lot as a kid, I guess I eventually built up a tolerance.”
He took another bite, less carefully since his stomach hadn’t yet protested the first taste.
“The food isn’t that much of a problem really, you get used to that to and people get pretty creative with it.”
Ash laughs "Ah well I'm glad. I can't eat anything I can't like watch be made. Weird little paranoia that I've developed, and I'm lucky to have the options I do." Ash pauses for a second. "Don't take this the wrong way, but would you be willing to change clothing if I got you some, just until we can get your current attire cleaned, once you finish eating of course and feel up to moving around. I can also bring you to your quarters. You could get a shower in and stuff too."
“Oh! Yeah…um, that would actually be great.” Cassius nodded. He did feel gross, obviously he’d slept in his clothes and he could feel the dried sweat clinging to him. He finished the last bite of whatever it actually was he was eating.
“As long as I get everything back,” he looked down at his patched great coat and sighed, “It’s practically a trademark at this point. Don’t think people would trust me if I showed up in anything else.”

Ash laughs softly, "Wouldn't expect it, no." He runs a hand through his hair. "Oh yeah absolutely, uhh what do you want? I'm not the best cook, I could make you hot cereal, or..." Ash walks over to the kitchen going through it looking for things to make. "Oh my meal bars. I have those, they're okay tasting. Also plenty of ingredients for like anything else."
“Something….fairly plain? I guess uh, I’m sure anything you have will be fine, don’t uh worry about cooking anything special for my sake.” Cassius watched Ash looking through the kitchen but most of what he could see from his seat was only distantly familiar, if that. “Meal bars sound um…fine?”
"If you're sure." Ash says, looking over everything one more time. Before bringing a small plate with a few of the meal bars "They don't have any meat in them, nothing I eat does. If you don't like them I can get you something else."
“Oh that’s…interesting?” Cassius picked up one and inspected it curiously. He was truly just expecting slab or some sort of equivalent to that, and it looked similar aside from the smell, but it was hard to imagine anyone making any kind of edible plant into this when they could have eaten it in any other form.
“I don’t know how long you were down there to uh, get a feel for the local habits. Not really much light for growing plants though. This is more than okay though um, thanks.”

The roar of the shuttle engines was deafening, he wasn’t even sure Ash could hear him hollering over it and he grabbed for a grip overhead, dragging himself against their acceleration towards the pilots seat.
"Well if you died you wouldn't be treating anyone ever again if that's the concern." Ash winced as that came out of his mouth. He'd meant it in a joking manner but he knew it just came off as insensitive. "Sorry..."
"Oh believe me, that is an inconvenient reality I accepted long ago." Cassius buried his face in his hands, once again attempting to block out the weak overhead lumins.
"I've been training my own replacement for years.”
He grimaced, Lux was probably out of their mind right now trying to find him and manage the clinic at the same time. All he could hope was that they’d hear of Ash’s hurried exit and put the pieces together. If they heard anything, perhaps they’d assume Ash had kidnapped him, or that he’d finally taken the wrong shortcut and was dead in a maintenance tunnel somewhere.
There was absolutely no way they’d make it six months without some kind of emergency, would the factory try to find him a replacement? Someone from the other hives perhaps-he couldn’t imagine a spire chirurgeon would be convinced to stoop to such a level.
“I don’t know how they’ll manage that long without me.” He groaned to himself, rubbing his eyes.
Ash chewed his lip. "I can probably get a message to them from our next stop. Perhaps get some strings pulled... I... Did I ever properly introduce myself to you?" He was trying to think back and remember. Cassius had asked if he was with the Inquisition, so he could assume not. He'd gotten way too caught up with Breaker's injuries.
He couldn't feel Mika nodding off against his shoulder. It wouldn't be long. He continues to gently bounce her.
“No but, well, I got your names and uh, well,” Cassius gestured vaguely around the room without lifting his head to look, “I can guess the rest-more or less.”
There were only so many sorts of people who could have a void ship like this and might wander a hive city with a single bodyguard, and Ash had already denied any connection to the Holy Ordos of the Inquisition.
“I’ve not um, spent my whole life down there despite appearances.”
Ash smiled, "Ah well, makes things a little more simple for me then. I'm going to go put her back to bed I'll be right back." He walks down the hall for a moment, opening up one of the doors before stepping inside. He's only gone a few minutes at most. "Rogue Trader Ashley Finley." He says once he re-enters the room and has walked up to close the distance. Shrugging his shoulders as he does so.
“I hope you aren’t expecting I’ll be ‘pleased to meet you.’” Cassius snorted, a pained if genuine smile briefly crossing his face.
If nothing else he could laugh at the absurdity of the situation-not to mention his own spectacularly poor reaction to it.
“You said something about food?” He tried to sound enthusiastic, his stomach was finally settling even if the headache remained.

Obsessed with the idea that Cassius is always convinced that everything is going wrong in the worst way (probably that its his fault too), meanwhile it's actually fine.
