Hey Ted. I love one man for 6 years. He loved me for 6 years. Yesterday he said the love is gone. I don't believe it's possible. He was the One for me, I was the One for him. All was PERFECT. Dear Six Year Itch,Perhaps it's the distance that made him push away? Break-ups are the worst, especially after long term relationships with people we've fallen in love with. I've found that over the years, my friends are at different places in their lives and it's caused me to both drift from them and come closer. Dear Never Official,You are best friends with this person for a reason. Because you care about them, want to be around them, have the same things in common. You need to decide what you want out of this relationship because you can't ignore feelings for forever. You have to make that decision whether you stay friends or risk losing it all to make it something more. Most importantly, you need to talk to them and be completely honest. If they're truly your best friend, they'll understand regardless of how they feel.- Ted

Ted- Hey. I have this thing, and it's kinda weird. I'm afraid. Not of like, monsters and stuff, but like... Life. New school, new people, and it's all so much. It's hard to start all over again. I also fear/strongly dislike other, small, everyday things. Like the doctor, or the dentist, and even getting a haircut. What's wrong with me? I mean, who's afraid of a haircut?
Dear Afraid,
This is normal. So, before you let yourself think that there is something wrong with you or that you are alone in feeling this way, let me stop you. Manu people feel this way, including me sometimes! It’s called anxiety and while it may feel like crippling and irrational fear, it’s mostly just a rational fear of what the outcome could be in any situation.
The best thing to do would be to talk to a therapist - whether a school counselor or licensed doctor. Most colleges and high schools have them for free. If not, try some tricks I’ve learned over the years.
1. Breathe. This is crucial. Counting to ten and filling your lungs with air is a good cure for anxiety. Start by closing your eyes and breathing in through your nose and out your mouth. Start with your toes and moving up to your shoulders, un tense every bone in your body and relax.
2. Remove yourself from the situation. If you can, avoid the things that cause you anxiety for a little while. If you’re feeling scared or like things are too much, go somewhere you feel safer for a little while and then return. Taking a break could be stepping outside or it could mean going to the bathroom. If you can’t do these things, create a place in your head that helps you escape your fears and tuck away somewhere else for awhile.
3. Set boundaries for yourself and make sure people understand them. This can be scary on its own, but if your open with people about what they do that makes you afraid of situations, that fear will go away.
4. Keep a journal or log of everything that scares you or makes you feel anxious. Try to explain to yourself why these things scare you and then read it often, so you can understand better.
I hope some of these helped. Please continue to talk to me and I hope I can bring you at least a distraction.
