This is also a very long text I apologise if I may make some minor mistakes, English isn’t my native language.

First thing I will mention is about the design, I actually like the idea of the Once-Ler in the Lorax movie having a face and his design being humanised into what we got, me and my friend discussed this and he said that his design being handsome “aligns with his ‘ex golden child role’ and charisma” which I totally agree! I’m all for non human or animal like onceler designs and faceless ones but personally? I view the movie depiction and the design as just a variation rather than trying to stick 100% to how he was like in the OG Lorax book. ANYONE can be the onceler.

As much as I like the movie’s once-ler design there are some big issues with the writing of the character.

I wish the movie focused more on the Lorax and the Once-Ler’s dynamic rather than ted and his high school crush being the main storyline in the movie I believe they would have worked better as supporting characters.

Another thing I have issue is the writing of the once-ler’s character and the reason behind why he started his own business. This is probably a famous opinion in the Lorax movie when it comes to criticism for the movie but I don’t like that in the movie his mother makes him do it because in the original cancelled version he is self aware of his actions. I think the whole “mommy issues” thing wasn’t that necessary.

I don’t like how the fandom makes the onceler and his “greed” version of himself into two completely different characters but that’s a talk for another day I believe the reason why people make him two separate characters is due to the writing being off and that it barely makes sense the same person can switch from being his kind self to “greedy self” I think the switch between his normal and selfish personality needs to be more worked on.

Speaking of, the “biggering” the song does way more impact to the once-ler’s character much better than “how bad can I be?”. There is a huge difference between “who cares if some things are dying?” And “who cares if a few trees are dying?” The biggering version adds more impact to his selfishness and also the OG concept has a grittier and darker meaning and as me and my friend discussed it also it’s better at the purpose of giving a essential message to people who watch it more than what the final version does.

The biggering version is such a fascinating concept yet it’s so ironic that it got cancelled due to the studio’s greed.

I don’t hate the movie, I just wanted to share my own thoughts! It’s completely fine if you like the final movie or prefer faceless onceler! Also no hate or offence to people who make the onceler and his greed self different characters.
