This decision has come about because of the lack of artwork I can sell at PG conventions. Majority of my current artwork is NSFW, and I need to make more SFW pieces for convention purposes.

I don’t intend to stop making NSFW art, and I will continue making NSFW art, I just need to set time aside to focus on making SFW art. I feel that making separate accounts for SFW and NSFW should help me focus on making artwork for those content ratings.

I watched Zootopia in theatres last week, and I wanted to draw a piece of fanart. So I did…

Judy Hopps doesn’t seem too happy though.

Only a few tips really that I have the time to get into now:

Fully build up your main character from top to bottom. Don’t go for just their looks and personality, but their backstory, their hobbies, their responses to hypothetical situations, what their breaking point is, what their highest accomplishment is, what they see as the pinnacle of personal success. Really get into their headspace and find out what makes them tic. Apply this rule to other characters as much as you possibly can as well.

Avoid Mary Sues. Characters that are too perfect or too sympathetic are boring. Emphasize real personality flaws and bad habits to make them seem more “human” and relatable. No one is going to understand what it’s like to have your entire clan killed off or being cursed with amazing talents and beauty. Don’t make your characters too “impossible”.

Let your characters speak for themselves. You can’t do this until you perform step one, but once you do the words should just evolve with little effort because you are already aware of how each character will respond to any given conversation or situation. Try acting out both parts of a conversation so you can hear it and know whether or not the dialogue flows naturally.

Write you rough draft as quickly as possible. Just get it all out there. You will have plenty of time to refine it later, but the hardest part of the writing process is just getting the whole story from start to finish down on paper. The other hard part is actually starting to write at all. If it’s a thing like this blog, finish a detailed outline of the whole overarching story-line and one arc script before you even begin.

Try to avoid sounding repetitious in your narrative. Do a quick scan of your paragraph to make sure you did not reuse common phrases, adverbs, or adjectives to describe things too many times. Thesauruses are your friend.
