Trust Everyone

“Is that safe?” She was already at work in finding the indicated code-bits and replacing them with the new code-bits. “I mean, I haven’t had a lot of luck with computers before I moved here, honestly. I don’t know a lot about AIs.”

“Uh sure. An extra pair of hands will definitely make hauling the last few boxes easier.” Boxes that are so totally not filled with stolen coffee and medical supplies under a thin coat of personal items.  Because that would be stealing and stealing is wrong.

“Okay!” She smiled cheerfully. “Lead the way.” This building made a lot more sense than her old one, but she didn’t actually know where anyone’s offices were. Yet.

She giggled. “Lucky on both counts. We didn’t really have super-fast people where I came from. Have you ever seen him? The Flash?”

“Yeah, lots of places don’t have super-fast people,” he pointed out, grinning. “I’ve seen him around. Y’know, never up close. And I’ve seen the pictures, obviously.”

“Are they good pictures? Or are they like, the blurry kind where people just get fights in the break room because it might be a mirage and not an actual mountain? Because that’s really annoying.”

“Not dying I can do. I’m good at not-dying.” That was most of her job back home. This place seemed safer. People kept saying it wasn’t, but it felt safer. There wasn’t even a memorial poster on the wall in the break room.

“Good cuz you’re really gonna need it.” She flashes a quick smile before. “Look I gotta go finish cleaning out my desk, but ah good luck.”

“Do you need help carrying anything? I mean, they don’t really have me doing anything yet. I think they’re trying to decide how much clearance I should get.”

“Uh don’t die? Remember that this shouldn’t become your whole life no matter what? You’re really asking the wrong person here, I have very little nice to say about this place.” She shrugs.

“Not dying I can do. I’m good at not-dying.” That was most of her job back home. This place seemed safer. People kept saying it wasn’t, but it felt safer. There wasn’t even a memorial poster on the wall in the break room.

That didn’t make a lot of sense to her--she figured staying there longer would make leaving harder, but what did she know about this kind of thing? This was nothing like her old job. “So, do you, uh, have any advice?”

“Gotcha.” Talk radio honestly wasn’t his thing, but he did know the station, at least. Running around the city constantly made for great memorization of places he hadn’t even noticed before. “Well, lucky for you, the Flash does exist. I mean, the drink. And the superhero, but I meant the drink.”

She giggled. “Lucky on both counts. We didn’t really have super-fast people where I came from. Have you ever seen him? The Flash?”

“I’m used to odd hours.” There were no hours odder than the hours at her old job. She was sure she could handle it. “I’d like that! Thank you.” She was sure she could handle the new location, too. Again. Didn’t get any stranger than her old job.

“Nice to meet you, too.” This was a good start. First name basis was always a good start. Christina shook Felicity’s hand. “I’m not late, am I? I’ve only taken the bus one other time before today.”

“Six Flashes…? Oh, right, the drink.” That still threw him off sometimes. Good drink, though. “Which radio station?”

“WKIB. The one that’s mostly talk radio?” She balanced the drink carriers carefully in both hands. “It’s my first week, so, coffee duty. At least no one ordered anything too weird. The drink that doesn’t exist or shouldn’t exist is like, traditional radio intern hazing.”

“...no?” Giving people trouble wasn’t in her job parameters. Not unless Trish Walker told her to. “Are you...Jessica Jones? Because if you’re Jessica Jones, the only thing Miss Walker said about you was...” She pulled a small notepad out of her pocket and skimmed some of the pages. “Uhm, let her know if you’re bleeding, limping, or about to do ‘something stupid’. She didn’t specify what that entailed. I’m guessing things involving knives.”
