Going into the new year, it honestly feels like we’re stuck in a loop. Anything bad that happens gets either memed to absolute hell, and anything good that happens gets pushed down so people can be angry for the sake of being angry.
It’s exhausting, really. The constant stream of hate, fear mongering, of depression and anxiety that we get from these silly little screens? It’s bad. And I know that you’ll think ‘well obviously’ but if someone doesn’t come out and say it it feels like everybody is ignoring it and pretending everything’s fine when it’s not.
Trust me, I know that it feels like we’re powerless to change anything, that we’re stuck in this ant death spiral until one of the people with money and power pulls their head out of their ass. But there IS something we can do. We can connect.
When was the last time you said hello to your neighbor? When was the last time you hung out with your friends in person instead of online? When was the last time you gave them a hug, the last time you held your partners hand? When was the last time you smiled, genuinely?
If we are stuck in this spiral of hate, of deceit and aggression, then it’s up to us to stop it. We need to dig in our heels, stop blindly following whatever we’re told by celebrities and politicians.
I’m not asking you this as a tumblr user, or as a random guy on the internet, or as your friend or enemy. I’m asking you as your neighbor. Please, say hello.
