An executive with more than two decades of experience in the automotive manufacturing industry, Ashwani Muppasani laid the foundation for his career by earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial and product engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology in India in 1991. Following graduation, Ashwani Muppasani enrolled in graduate studies at the Wichita State University in Kansas, where he attained a master’s degree in industrial engineering. From 1995 to 2013, Ashwani Muppasani held diverse roles at General Motors. As the vice president of vehicle sales, service, and marketing (VSSM), he worked with a logistics budget of $150 million and an annual purchase value of $1.4 billion. Among his accomplishments in the position, he delivered $18 million in direct materials savings in 2010, and $17 million in 2012. Mr. Muppasani went on to hold multiple executive positions within the automotive division of TE Connectivity between 2014 to 2019. From 2017 to 2019, he worked as the vice president of automotive Americas operations and quality, where his responsibilities included overseeing the fast-paced assembly of electronics components, from lights to injection molding.

The former senior director of quality and operations for the Americas at TE Connectivity, Ashwani Muppasani holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering and is a member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). Formerly called the Institute of Industrial Engineers, IISE was founded in 1948 as a professional organization to support engineering professionals across the full spectrum of industries, including specialties such as product design and manufacturing. According to the IISE blog, emerging technologies that are changing the face of manufacturing are machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Machine learning is a training process for AI, enabling the software to learn particular applications. Through data collection and analysis, AI allows for vast improvements in product design and the manufacturing process as well as enhancements to customer service and product delivery. While AI cannot completely replace human engineers, it has the potential to become a critical partner in the design process, says the IISE blog.
