BIOGRAPHY
When Isha and Divamani found out they were expecting, it was a great surprise that they were having twins and even more that one was a boy and the other a girl. With two kids on the way, the young couple wanted to move to a nice community from their place in Topsham and ended up in Bridgeport by the time their son and daughter were born. They bought a place in Point Breeze and started their lives there. Isha was a stay at home mom while Divamani worked in town as an accountant and while trying to blend in to the ideal of a normal American family, they also stayed true to their Gujarati culture. They went to school when they became of age in Bridgeport and on weekends and holidays, theyâd go to Topsham to worship and celebrate there with family and friends.
This was the time Ashi remembered being happiest for a long time. She was extremely close to her father and in her memories, she knew there were times that she would just sit on his lap while he did his work and she did homework. They would dance together at celebrations if she asked and she loved when heâd take her and her brother to the office on days off. She loved it there and she loved spending any moment she could with him. It was during a solo trip with him when she was eight to the office when things changed. It was later in the evening when they were heading home and Ashi was asleep in the backseat. She didnât wake up until a strange womanâs voice woke her and she was on the side of the road. There were flashing lights all over and the car was a mess. She cried for her dad, but he never showed and that evening was the last time she saw her dad.
The months after have always been things that Ashi barely remembers. She didnât remember the funeral ceremony that happened and she barely remembered anything else other than her family moving to Topsham when her and her brother turned nine to stay with her grandparents. It wasnât long after that her mom started seeing a grief counselor she was seeing named Robert Andrews and within a blink of an eye, the two were married and they moved in with Robert and his daughter. From day one, the girls never liked each other and this just led to Ashi starting to act out; especially as she started to become a teenager.
It started with slamming doors and blasting music. Ashi started refusing to go to worship or consider the Andrews any part of her family. And when her mom had her younger brother, she hated it all even more that this was how things were actually going to be. When high school started, she started sneaking out, coming home late, and arguing with her parents and step-sister became more frequent. She remembered that whole time as constant arguing. And it got worse when she started dating behind their backs; especially when it got more serious with Travis McMann.Â
Her and Travis were horrible for each other. He fed into her acting out and she let him. Theyâd go out together and drink and she started doing drugs with him. The more the arguing happened at home, the more she was with Travis and the more they were doing things her mother and step-father hated. It all came to a head the day her and her brother turned eighteen. Her mom was trying to get her to stay for a family dinner, but Ashi wanted to go out. Robert stepped in and they started arguing more and more until Ashi went upstairs, packed a bag, and she and Travis left.
The two drove for a long time before they ended up in Atlantic City. The second they got there, they eloped before going into New York City and trying to get their lives going there. It was hard as they spent more than they shouldâve on their addictions and had to get help from Travis's parents. However, this required them to move to where Travisâs uncle was in Colorado so he could help him with his construction business. So, they did and they got this little trailer there while Ashi started working as a waitress. While she was trying to quit doing the drugs, Travis was still doing them and would convince her now and then to do so. It was one of these times that she almost overdosed and ended up in the hospital. When she woke, she found out she was pregnant when this happened, but ended up miscarrying because of the overdose and stress on her body.Â
After all this, she went home to find Travis gone and piles of bills and everything to be paid. Ashi didnât know what to do and when Travisâs uncle came knocking to see where his nephew was, he found her crying on the floor. He decided to help her and got things taken care of before letting her move into the loft in his garage under the condition she didnât use again. She agreed and they helped her through her withdrawals and she started working at the construction company as a secretary. She even started to get in touch with her faith again and started attending temple once again and when she could, she finally got divorced from Travis.
Ashi ended up working at the construction company for years and after a work accident, she ended up meeting someone from her childhood. Sunny was now a paramedic in Boulder, but the two went to school together as kids. This reunion had them flirting and talking more and more until finally, they went out on a date and made things official. Both were incredibly happy and even moved in together after a few months. Everything seemed to be perfect. Then suddenly, Travis came into her life. She was trying hard to ignore him, but it was getting harder when he was working at the construction company once again. He kept saying he wanted her back and all these things and after a bad day that started with her step-sister sending her an article about her step-father and the family that didnât even mention Ashi, she went to him and relapsed.Â
Hating herself, she admitted to Sunny what had happened and the two argued, but they finally came to the conclusion that Ashi needed to get some help. So, after talking with her brother, he was able to get her aunt to talk to her mother to get her some help. The two broke up and she ended up in Seattle at a rehab center and then went to Topsham to stay with her family. However, the energy there quickly became something she didnât want and she ended up moving to her hometown of Fabllrook with her brother.
The last months following her return in September to Bridgeport have been great for her recovery. From a pleasant surprise that Sunny moved back to town too and them getting back together and moving in and her going back to her childhood temple has been amazing. It all got even more amazing when her and Sunny got engaged and started to plan the wedding. The only thing she hates about it all is the fact her family and herself are still so estranged to the point she wonât be inviting them to the reception her and Sunny are planning, except for her brother. She wishes she could make up for the time she wasnât the best, but knows she canât dwell on that forever. She just wants to live happily ever after and wants everything to be good.Â
