When the evening is spread out against the sky

Like a patient etherized upon a table.

That its shade may envelop me without fail;

As a serene sanctuary, I dedicate this shrine,

A temple to blessed stillness, divine.

It is a realm of twilight peace profound,

Where whispering arbors with green abound;

There, amidst blooming rose's gentle array,

A consecrating angel appeared that day.

My spirit wandered to a cherished grave,

Immersed in mourning, sorrow’s endless wave;

Then a prescient life descended upon me,

Like wondrous, powerful shivers of mystery.

And beautiful, as celestial maidens are,

Chosen to bear a holy message from afar,

From heights of retribution came an ethereal being,

Radiant, sublime, beyond earthly seeing.

A crown of brilliance flowed around golden hair,

As it shines on immortal foreheads fair;

Yet grave shadows dimmed its luminous face,

It was the most exalted wrath, full of grace.

"Who are you, floating figure of light?

Have you fled celestial dances in flight?"

Then through the forest came a soft refrain:

"Urania!"— it echoed through the boughs' domain.

"Do you command me, in wrath, to rise higher?

Do not anger longer, O radiant choir!

In devout fervor, I now approach you near,

The solitary singer, mourning yet sincere."

And gentler flowed around the luminous frame

The calm of divine realms, tender and tame;

Softly it embraced me with sweet force,

The unspeakable power of mildness, its source.

Thus, I consecrate the grove so deep,

That its shadows may hold me in peaceful sleep;

Unbound, ascending to realms of light.

I raised Urania’s altar with awe and might,

In the grove of consecration, beyond mortal sight.
