5. You and your family live underground away from all the technology. Write a series of diary entries about life underground.
Hello, this is my first time doing this sort of thing. I don't really know what to write haha. My name is Tracy Stormfunkle. My mom and I live in this abandoned mine, away from all electricity. All we have is oil lamps and our clothes in backpacks. We are on the run. There's something chasing us. I don't know what, or why. But it's on our trail. Coming ever closer. Every time I close my eyes I can see it. A large creature, it's skin is too tight, and ripping. The call it makes is horrible. It almost sounds like a train, except with more grinding and chirping. I don't know how much longer we can last. It's been 3 years since we left home. That thing killed my dad, her husband. I don't know what to do. What was that? I heard something. Out in the dark. It's here. It's watching me write this right now. What do I do? I think it heard the scratching on my pen, the rustle of my clothes. My mother is asleep next to me. What do I do? What do I do? What if it comes closer? Takes her away? I have to go. I have to wake her. It's the right thing. If she can wake up before it comes too close then we might make it out of this alive.
It's been 30 minutes since I last wrote. My mom is injured. She has a huge gash across her side. I don't know what to do. I'm not trained in medical attention. She's going to bleed out. Oh, but the noise. That was the worst noise I've ever heard. I never want to hear something like that again. The chattering of it's bones. The terrible screech of my mom. I got to see it's face up close. Hollowed out spaces where it's eyes should be, a gaping mouth that could probably swallow a large child whole. And it's teeth. Massive, gnarly teeth that stuck out in every direction. Each tooth probably a foot long. There was a lot of them too, the teeth. Rows upon rows of them. The thing couldn't have been taller than 7 feet. We need to get out of here. I hope we can make it.
Hi, again. It's been another 40 minutes, about. I've helped my mom get further through the mines. There's a light. We need to sleep for now. I'm keeping watch, just in case. I'm praying, for the first time in my life, that I make it out alive, both of us are. I don't even believe in a god, what am I doing? This is stupid. Nobody is even going to read this journal. I'm going to burn it. After we find a way out of here and collapse the mine. I'm going to burn this journal. There's no need for anyone to read about this creature. That's what got dad killed in the first place. We are going to get out of here, if it's the last thing we do.
