Final Evaluation
The aim of this project was to work with a team to successfully crate a short animated film. Working together we managed this and have produced some great films as well as learning new skills in the proses.
For my part in each team i was given a 2d animatic to turn into a 3D animated shot, i did this for 3 separate teams. I worked on vélo etoile, The inferno and S.S.O.T.D. each teams were very different as they were structured and organised differently.Â
The Inferno: The inferno was initially my first group, we had big hopes for the film and had a very good sized team, we were very organised and focused but half way though making the film we realised we had too much to do and hadn't given ourself a realistic time frame to complete it all in, we had to dismember and join other groups. Although we didn’t get to finish this film it was a great learning curve as we realised it wasn’t as easy as we thought to complete an animated film from scratch no matter how big the team is or how skilled the members of the team are. we decided to join other groups and help them finish there films.
vélo etoile: This team had everything planned out, exactly how long each shot needed to be and when it needed doing , although this seemed like the best way to go about producing the film it had it’s problems such as there wasn’t much leeway for the animated shots if they needed to be a little longer or if camera angles and things need to be changed. If i could change anything about this film i would have suggested that when creating the film not to be so strict on what could and couldn’t be changed as there would have been a lot of room for improvement. Although i feel like there was some issues in the creating of the animation he final film has worked out very well and looks great.Â
S.S.O.T.D : worked very differently as we knew everything that needed to be animated but because it was such a small team we were constantly changing and improving everything, we swapped from a 2D and 3D animated film to purely 3D and in the end it worked out better. Although the film has turned out great we still did have a lot of time issues as in the end we was pushed for time and had to animate fast but it did lead to thinking of shots in different ways. It was a really good learning curve as we knew we needed to change things fast and we worked together as a team to get the film finished.Â
Over all i have learnt a lot about film making and have learnt new skills in the process. If i could go back and change anything i would have changed the work load we gave ourself for The Inferno as the film wold have turned out great if we had researched the makings of an animated film more thurraly.Â
I also worked on my own short animated film, i set myself a challenge for 5 days to create my own animation and only use pre made rigs, nothing else. I was pushed for time as i had to learn alot of new things on the go but the film turned out great in the end for the amount of time i had given myself.Â
