I won't stop in promoting the Chinese-made Mulan: Rise of the Warrior (2009) film for an authentic experience, but if anyone don't want to see the film I'm going to highlight the key differences against the Disney versions:
Mulan (2009) is about family, nationalism, war and sacrifice. Mulan there is overpowered as heck and doesn't have trouble training with the men. However, as the war rages on, she loses friends and she begins to suffer PTSD, blaming herself for their deaths.
She loses motivation to fight and drinks her sorrows, but no one else can lead the army as well as her. She is willing to die for her soldiers because it's her duty as their commanding officer. The climax of the movie is about characters sacrificing their lives and happiness for the good of the nation, as they can't have it all.
I'm not even going yet into the love story of the 2009 film. I encourage people to experience it.
Note that as someone who isn't Chinese nor an expert in their literature, I'm not qualified to say that this is supposed to be the ultimate Mulan experience. Still more authentic than the Disney one and more compelling, realistic and visually impressive than the Mulan 2020 live action.

Mulan actress was blunt without emotion, the movie could have so much more emotion and humanity and doesnāt make us feel nothing at all.
Also sheās perfect.Ā She have the special chi, sheās the chosen one bullshit. Thatās not what Mulan original meaning, Mulan works hard tries so hard and this chick are just perfect in every fight she never struggles! Whats wrong with a daughter that wants to fight for her father instead of the calling to fight for China? Wants wrong with humbleness and working hard and fail sometimes?
So the message is, women must be better than the men so that men can accept us. We are teaching little girls that they must be perfect always with this Rey and Captain Marvel.
Thatās message is so conflicted and wrong.
just watched mulan (2020) and my advice is save your time and energy and watch mulan: rise of a warrior (2009). itās an actually good film that tackles the mulan story in a way that is truly respectful of the chinese culture and shows mulan as a great warrior

Why in mulan 2020 so many men are good fighters because they trained and the two women are good because of magical chi?
This movie tries so hard to be empowering, and somehow is less than the original mulan, who just wanted to protect her father

Reasons why I prefer Joey and Rachel over Ross and Rachel.
Joey wants Rachel to be happy weather or not heās in her life,where Ross wants Rachel to be happy but only if its with him.
He got upset that she was working during their anniversary and says that āitās just a job.ā When he knew how hard she worked to get that job and knew how proud she was of how well she was doing,when she was a waitress he was a lot more supportive,also they had to cancel their reservation on their first date because he had to work and couldnāt get off in time. Did she complain? No,because sheās an adult and understands that things happen.
Joey encouraged Rachel to move back in with Ross when she was pregnant with Emma so that Ross wouldnāt miss out on things that were going on with the baby,even though it was hard for Joey to do. He stepped aside when he figured out that Ross still had feelings for Rachel. He let Rachel know that no matter what happened he would always be there for her. He never once made her feel dumb or make her feel like she wasnāt important,even from the very beginning he was ALWAYS on her side.
