Fursuit customer service vs. FX customer service
I hear a lot of people complaining about how poor the overall level of client services are among fursuit makers. I think this is purely based on dealings with ONLY fursuit makers and a lot of heresay, because having just concluded a custom job with an FX house(I commissioned THEM for a custom piece)- let me tell you just how great fursuit customer service is. This isn't the first time I've gotten work done from an FX house, nor will it be the last I suspect. I paid them 100% up front(~a grand) as it typical(Sometimes you owe more than agreed at the end, depending on time allotted), pointed to the model I wanted and said "This one, but with X, Y, Z alterations, in this colour scheme(Which I provided)". I contacted them on 5 seperate occasions begging to spend my money to buy this thing- I finally CALL and they respond to my email. They estimated a 4-8 week turnaround. So now it is about 10 weeks later, I haven't seen ANY work in progress photos, I have had NO contact with the studio, they haven't answered any emails. Saturday I got a curt email saying 'it is done, here is your tracking #'.
This is about the usual level of customer service for professional FX houses. So anyone telling you that 'furry customer service won't fly in the REAL world' has no clue whatsoever. I have dropped more money on myself than I have probably spent altogether in my whole life for something I've wanted for several years now- I have no idea what the modifications look like, no idea if the paint job is right. No idea if it will even LOOK good. And I am still excited as FUCK.
Compare this with typical fursuit customer service- -Regular Email contact -WIPS regularly, or on request -Streams(Sometimes, depends on the artist!) -Alterations done to your taste
And yet we charge under half of what the professionals do. From here, it seems like compared to the 'real world' fursuit customer service is above and beyond even WETA(One of the best FX houses in the world).
Just wanted to jot down my comparison before all the details fade from my mind! This isn't slamming anyone or anything, its just one of those things furries like to generically bitch about, and coming out of this real world experience with a costume studio, it seems like furries just really want other furries to be happy, and do their best damned job at servicing them(Insert gross joke here)!

FURSUIT HELP
So the inside of my fursuit is beginning to peel. Like the fur backing fibers are rolling off. Is this normal? PLEASE HELP I DON’T WANT MY BABY TO FALL APART
You mean beginning to pill? Like the fibres are rolling together on the part of the backing that rubs against your skin? Yes, this is normal wear and tear of faux furs. If you over-brush it will happen a little more than if you don’t. But definitely keep washing and maintaining as per normal.
Things everyone needs to be aware of.

Rather than showing up in jedi robes to the movie premiere, our group of friends is showing up as our star wars RPG characters. I slapped this gungan scoundrel together in a day. Hopefully I will be able to see, lol. OH THE SACRIFICES WE MAKE XD
Hello! I've been interested in getting into the fursuiting scene, and now that I've come into a job and a decent age, I'm not exactly sure where to begin once I get a hold of one. Long-distance conventions and furmeets are a goal once I'm able to attend them (since I can't find any locals near my area and I use public transportation atm), but I'd still love to put one to use beforehand. Do you have any suggestions of potential areas to go visit with the suit?
I recommend first checking out the Wikifur.com homepage! It was has a lits of all the conventions around the world, their dates, and locations.
From there it’s a matter of finding out what’s local. If you’re not too wary of public suiting (Bring a handler!) You could try going to local events like parades, art shows, and things of that nature. Realize however in those settings, you are out of the norm. So going with a group of friends of 2-3 handlers is recommend. ESPECIALLY if you don’t talk in suit.
Beyond that I’m not sure I have much more advice sadly. Suiting is such a specialized that thing it’s hard to find spaces outside of cons to enjoy it. If you REALLY have a passion for it, look into mascot gigs for local sports teams! That’s a great way to play another character in a really high energy and welcoming environment!
Most states have individually organized furry groups. So google search Nevada furs or something, and groups should pop up. Most groups(probably all) have individual parties and stuff setup ahead of time you can attend and hang out with. Furries are generally a pretty low key group, easy to get along with and meet up with. I know the Maryland furs in particular are very organized, as are the PA furs, but that’s probably just my personal exp being from those areas. Good luck!
How my artistic process goes, generally. Step 1: Foam up a head- no this looks a bit off, okay lets see where it goes, maybe it is just me.
Step 2: No this is definitely wrong. Okay what the fuck did I do wrong *Strips off fur stares at pictures of otters for hours, drinks heavily, cries into drink, finally figures it out or seems another point of view to help me out if I’m too stupid to figure it out on my own-god bless other artists for being so helpful to one another* Step 3: Re-foamed head Step 4: Re-furred head Step 5: Airbrush prelims and add whiskers- okay this is starting to look right. Time to strip the airbrushing off and do it for real. Then it will be done. Step 6: Is comin’, I’ll post it when he’s done done :) Yes, I generally have to re-foam every. single. head. I make to make sure it looks up to my standards. This is just part of my process. So when an artist is doing their thing, don’t interrupt their process, or you might end up with a 2 instead of a 5 :X
You can blame (thank?) Argyle Werewolf for this one:
Tonight’s super ultra blood moon mega eclipse means you HAVE to draw a werewolf and tag it with #DrawAWerewolfDay or the moon will get really close to your house and crush it. Neil deGrasse Tyson confirmed it just now on a phone call that I did not record and will not share with you.
I can’t not reblog this.

THIS IS SUPER COOL THOUGH IF YOU UNDERSTAND HORSES. LIKE THAT NIPPING IS A GROOMING BEHAVIOR HORSE’S DO TO BOND AND TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE SOCIAL BONDS. SO THAT HORSE IS BASICALLY TREATING THE CAT AS PART OF THE HERD AND SUSTAINING THE FRIENDLY BOND.
IT IS SAYING, “this tiny horse is very tiny but we are friends. Look at my tiny friend.”
Horses and cats get along really well actually! Cats in barns scare away all the rats and mice that frighten the horses. SO it’s less like the horse accepting it into the ‘herd’ as the horse saying ‘thank you, brave warrior, for protecting me from the scary chitter beasts.’
Mom loves to recant the story of the time her horse king got a really deep abcess after coming home from deep afield somehow. Really, really deep wound. He got very, very sick. This was years and years ago, the vet came and said either he’s going to live or he won’t after ministering to him. That horse was laid up in the barn for a month. Had this old white barn cat that would keep him company day in, day out. Kept watch, slept with him, etc. Anyways, eventually he broke fever and the abcess burst, and he comes waltzing out of the barn like it’s any other day, his little cat friend in tow. She’s convinced to this day that cat keeping him company is the reason he lived.
TL; DR: Cats and horses are good friends.

Photo dump. Tail Irime + I collab’d on- she did most of the sewing and I did most of the patterning. It’s for sale: http://www.thedealersden.com/auction_details.php?name=dragon-dino-dog-or-monster-tail&auction_id=119246 Also some caribou hooves taking a bath in silicone for casting, a couple shots of the hellhound, an otter tail being blocked out, and a nose made on-order for a client.
Jasper is done~! :D This was tons of fun to work on, and was probably the most time consuming airbrushing job I’ve done thus far. Jasper is for swandog’s husband, Sayh.
They wanted a jackalope with a similar style to my first, but with a traditional hare shaped face for a more masqueline look. I used my own hare base for this one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/236792233/diy-realistic-jackrabbit-hare-rabbit?ref=shop_home_active_6

Save the White Rhino
I don’t normally post stuff like this, but they’re getting funds together to start ensemenation of the last Northern white rhinos. Let me stress this.
THERE. ARE. FOUR. LEFT. Only four members of the species remain.. and with the extinction this week of the sumatran rhino(in the wild), this I believe to be a legitimate ‘save the rhino’ dealbreaker. Donate a buck. If everyone on tumblr donated a dollar, we’d save them from extinction. Or at least give them a fighting chance. Repost, share, whatever. There’s only four of these guys left in the world. http://www.gofundme.com/makearhino
