Being pissed that's she was slighted, she turns Claire into a Beast of darkness, the castle taken over by shadow magic. Claire's family and friends are either turned to stone, or turned into something entirely.

I think I'm going to do the plot with Barbara a bit different, her staying with him in the castle, her falling in love with one of the castles grotesques aka Walt, who was Claire’s tutor before the curse

Bular would be a main antagonist, not really having a Gaston type, I won't do that to Steve. But Bular more so wanting Jim to join him in the hunt of the witch and Beast.
