“Wyoming to Livernois” this piece is the Second in a series of #digitalartpaintings I’m creating. The series will be titled “No Role Models” inspired by the hit record by @realcoleworld. As a youth on #detroitswestside I vividly remember bike rides with my God siblings; who I called cousins because of our mothers relationship. We learned to #swim #iceskate and #ridebikes together. My most vivid memories are of our bike rides which were sometimes unsupervised due to our age and our mothers work schedule. This was my first symbol of freedom in my neighborhood. Also when we got in the most trouble because we often went further than we were allowed too. But my bike taught me how to care and value my things. Theses land marks were how I knew I’d gone to far. My Mother always set boundaries for me when riding bikes in my neighborhood. “Wyoming to Livernoise and never cross 7mile” she would say as put on my helmet to start my summer #explorations. As a #parent now I know this required a great deal of #faith in me and my #neighborhood. The experiences on these rides help me navigate the streets of #detroit and #understand the under appreciated beauty of #themotorcity.

Excited to share that I will be one of 4 artists showcasing my work in June of this vear! I will showing all new works some seen on social media and some that have not been seen before. My showcase will focus on black wealth and masculinity. I hope to see you all there for the opening!

“Shining Bright” this piece is the first in a series of #digitalartpainting I’m creating. The series will be titled “No Role Models” inspired by the hit record by @realcoleworld. I did not have a male role model in my home for the first 10 years of my life. #theboyscoutsofamerica taught me what a productive citizen looked and acted like. I even reached the rank of #eaglescout which is the highest rank a young person can achieve. Many of our youth organizations have sifted to target all genders. But growing up on #detroitswestside scouting was a safe place for me. My first job out of college was with the #greatlakesfieldservicecouncil and although I do not work there I will forever appreciate the professional development I received. I thank my mother and father for pushing me to reach the heights level as well as supporting the #scoutingmovement when I became a district executive. #scoutmottobeprepared
