Anyway, I have several OCs starting with V!
Some examples include, but aren't limited to Viyas, the deity of wind in my indie fantasy world, Victor, who exists in several universes, and is born to be a nobody but forced to be a main character, and one of my newest ones, my transgender tiefling girl Vi - short for Violet Iris Lavender. But the one I'd like to talk about right now is
Vharloth, or Vharl for short, is a character whom I originally made as an indie OC for TaWG (God I'm so glad you know what TaWG is), but who, over time, developed into an FFXIV, and then a D&D/Baldur's Gate 3 OC.
First of all, neither Vharloth nor Zal'arin are his birth names. I haven't picked a deadname for him yet, but he chose these for himself becaue he wanted to separate himself from his past. He is a drow, born to a respected, but not High house in the Underdark. As a male, he was never really valued in his family, but he was unusually tall and strong for a male drow, so he was kept around because he was a) a novelty, and b) useful enough as a protector of the house and home.
He used to have a younger sister, whom I also still need a name for. She was killed in an assassination attempt on another, absolutely unrelated house, unfortunately just having been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her parents blamed Vharl for her death, because in their eyes, he failed to protect her, and the punishment for that was that they literally sold him into slavery to some matriarch, who ended up using him in arena fights, where two opponents would be thrown into a pit, and fight to the death for the crowd's - and the goddess Lolth's - amusement. Despite his situation, Vharl has always had a wicked hopeful streak, and so he endured for almost an entire century, before his own chance to escape came during yet another one of those battles between the houses. He used that chance to flee to the surface, which he'd always wanted to do. One of his signature quotes is: "I'd rather go blind from seeing the light of the sun just once, than living with eyes that'll never see it at all."
Now he does live at the surface, and is following the path of a paladin of Lathander, the god of dawn, birth, and renewal in the Forgotten Realms lore. The inspiration for that was a very impressive run-in with a certain Captain, whose name does not start with V. I haven't decided whether he has a steady home, or is constantly travelling and sleeping in camps, but he makes some decent coin by lending his strength to those in need, and he even has a boyfriend!
