I was never gonna have kids. I might still never have kids (for the, like, max two people who might know who I am irl, don't worry, I have not completely lost my mind yet). I hate this fucking world, I wish I never existed. Not a mindset to have kids with.
But!
The desire to have some kids that will actually be intelligent, emotionally aware, sensible human beings, who will read books, ride bikes, and draw silly pictures for fun is growing stronger day by day. Every time I see a kid on the train watching some stupid ass ai generated video, that desire grows.
So, you know. Maybe I'll doom one or two extra humans to this despicable existence. Maaaaaybe
The problem w writing fiction is that you'll be like tee-hee I'm going to write a story about a fucked up little scenario that's got nothing to do with anything in real life, just some pure messed up nonsense, and then you finish it and take a step back and go aw rats I made a metaphor again
Why is it always about "i have to make my own choices even if it's gonna hurt. i have to stop thinking about the ways it could go wrong and have a little hope. i have to stop trying to please everyone else and just be. i have to believe that even if it sucks, it's not the end. it's fixable" and why the fuck do i never do any of that
Need a DunkBaelor Love Actually AU where Baelor is the perfect prime minister, and Dunk is the bumbling assistant who makes Baelor forget every lecture on ethics in public office and workplace professionalism.
And it could have more storylines too, eg Raymun as the guy who falls in love with his co film star doing a sex scene (cause that would fit Red so well) and Maekar as the guy going on a retreat and falling in love

I'm NOT going to defend the line "our age of bronze is collapsing" from Nolan's Odyssey, because it's arguably one of the weaker points of the film, but to be absolutely fair to Ody, there is a concerning number of people irl right now who say shit like "the western civilization is over" or "this is the AI era" so maybe we should consider the fact that some people just talk like complete dunderheads
These days, it's not enough to have ten years of experience and be under twenty-five, as it used to be on the job market. No, these days you have to (checks notes) lay down your life.
@aehallhyon i assume (assume being the important word here) that what terry pratchett meant here was that the work of tolkien is the foundation of what the other author created. as in, this work doesn't seem like it's inspired by tolkien (or appreciating, deconstructing, adapting, whatever) because it is in fact so seeped in tolkien-esque themes and imagery that making any more allusions to tolkien would basically be plagiarism
or, alternatively, this other author thinks they are cooking with something original (e.g. overindustrialization sucks, or long lifespan-people can't keep up with the changing world) but in fact tolkien had already done that. Source: I am the second example lol
There are hardly any female werewolves because they break all the classic rules of femininity. They force you to confront female violence, strength, size, grotesqueness and uncontrollability. Historically female shapeshifters always shift into something dangerous (snake) or sleek (cat) or dainty (bird) but female werewolves ignore the masculine gaze completely. They're distorted beasts that have no ulterior motive except to destroy. Nothing about them is nurturing or modest. They're the opposite of what a woman "should be." Their omission from pop culture is not an accident.
MORE GRIZZLY, BEASTLY, AND MONSTROUS WEREWOLF WOMEN!!!!
I WANT YOU 🫵 TO DO YOUR PART IN PROPAGATING THE SHEWOLF REVOLUTION
GET RIPPED, HAIRY, AND EAT SCREAMING PEOPLE WITH NO REMORSE
Not a werewolf but I low-key think this is one of the reasons I loved animorphs so much, pretty popular fashionable Rachel morphing into a badass grizzly bear and tearing people's limbs off, head-first into the fighting every time.
On a serious note, Maekar would defend Baelor's right to marry Dunk so hard in public despite being against their relationship in private
That's his brother his best friend his family, if he wants to marry a man he can bloody well do so! And being petty and stubborn, Maekar would take it so far
He'd fistfight the high septon! And marry some guy himself just to make a point! The peasants are rioting cause they want to be openly gay too? LET THEM! Maekar officiates lesbian weddings now, everybody gets a cake and a "Congratulations on your fucking marriage!" He doesn't remember his new husband's name and the guy is some random knight who thought they were only joking, now he has to look after 5 kids and fluff Maekar's pillows or whatever

the worst part of "you'll understand when you're older" is that you really do understand when you're older
The second worst part is, once you get older, you find yourself saying "you'll understand when you're older" with Full Comprehension of how fucking annoying you're being right now, but also knowing that it's all you can say.
“you haven’t gotten to this chapter of the book yet”
More often than i would like to, i end up telling my students, "it sounds cliche, but one day you'll know what i'm talking about" and i always feel so fucking annoying, but it really is like that
i like to imagine ser donnel calling a meeting of the kingsguard (before dunk is one of them) to discuss the dunk/baelor situation bc baelor needs to stop slipping away from his guard to go hook up with dunk
and they do this little exchange of words, but when he asks "who guards the king" everyone at the same time is like "ser duncan" with the most annoyed groans
Obviously the correct answer here is the relic of St. Thomas Aquinas's head (or at least one of the two skulls alleged to belong to him, there evidently being a certain amount of drama in the pope fandom about which contender is The One True Skull, as it is obvious that St. Thomas Aquinas did not in fact have two heads). This gave us the below picture, from when it was being transported to Fossanova Abbey for the 750th anniversary of his death:
Just out. In the car for a ride. With my ol' buddy ol' pal in the passenger seat, The Motherfucking Skull * Of St. Thomas Aquinas, Esteemed Medieval Catholic Philosopher. As one does.
(source)
*Assuming it is in fact his real skull, and not that of a scurrilous impostor. Slander and calumny!
(For the record, that is a monstrance, i.e. transparent display reliquary. Must say I am also personally fond of the foot, though the hand does kind of look like the Infinity Gauntlet. PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER.)
Obviously I have to disagree, because the best relic is the skull of St. Zdislava, simply because it was stolen from where it was being displayed by a guy who didn't like that it was on display and wanted to bury the skull so that she would have peace. Obviously that has to be the winner, at least in our little corner (heart) of the world.
Gotta love kids. (I usually say I don't, but I'm also usually lying). My siblings and I always had a million inside jokes and one of them is calling someone who messes up a mammoth.
(It comes from years ago, my brother saying our mom is old, me asking "like prehistoric?" and him responding "prehistoric - like a mammoth!!!" and laughing like a maniac. From then on, when mom did something we considered weird, we would call her a mammoth. Overtime, it shifted from "parent doing old people stuff > mammoth" to "anyone messing up > mammoth")
Anyway, my brother has a friend over, and they are playing pool, because my brother is not that much of a kid anymore, and his friend who is playing pool with him (not exactly a kids' game) messed up a cue shot and my brother called him a mammoth. And this boy fully broke into a set of giggles and repeated "I'm a mammoth! A MAMMOTH!" about a dozen times in a row, giggling throughout the whole thing.
And it's just such a small, stupid thing, but oh my god, it made my day.
oscar tully’s gotta be having the time of his life, combat ptsd aside. boomer coworker he doesn’t rlly like gets traded for a better one. mogs the lord commander of the kingsguard. makes some friends. hangs out with his cool gay aunt. puts his tully sass genes to good use. go white boy go!

the scariest thing in the world is probably whatever's going on in the tiny gap between my kitchen counters and the oven
it's so cool how in an effort to own the techbros left wing gen-Zers have genuinely speedran their descent into boomerhood. "i think we need to acknowledge that our parents were right, we shouldn't have had access to phones at such a young age" actually i don't think that's true. no well i suppose in your case your parents were probably correct in their assumption that you lacked the mental capacity to be allowed on the internet unsupervised, but i don't think that generalises out to the rest of the population
Sweetheart, I think you need to acknowledge the fact that there are currently children in this world who are not able to eat without watching dopamine-high videos on some kind of screen. So, when boomers like me (boomers in their late twenties lmao) say, "children shouldn't have access to phones at such early age" what we mean is, "last week I went to a store and a mother was trying to get her child to try on shoes. and instead of communicating with her child or having any other kind of normal human interraction, she shoved a video of some screaming vegetables in her kid's face and put the shoes on his feet while he was 'distracted', and I can remember a world in which parents actually explained to their children why things were happening and thus children had a framework of reference for their behaviour and decision-making".
So yeah, maybe I'm acting like a boomer. But I would actually rather do the "when I was your age we played outside" spiel than whatever those jackass parents I meet every day are doing to their poor kids. And I guess that if I'm some kind of evil fearmonger for that then so be it.
