The owner was very nice and found this frame for me and measured it to make sure it would work. More progress on Kishka’s portrait. Kishka has been my protector on nights I’ve been by myself. I had to stay in Texas by myself while my husband moved to Utah for a new job because I was finishing up my master’s degree and we were selling the house. Painting my dog and following some good advice on portrait painting. Good principles of design apply to anything you are painting. Lost and found edges. The background is not going to be red i@just used the left over paint. The other idea is economy of brushstroke. I was finally able to work on this girl this week. I’ve been battling a throat virus for a few weeks now and every time things start feeling better I lose some ground. The last three weekends I’ve spent lounging around to recuperate from the week. Anyway I think I made progress on this painting. I had to speed paint because I’m submitting this painting as part of my portfolio for an art fellowship. Fingers crossed! I was listening to a podcast on applying for things as an artist and I said to myself. I’ve been sick for over a week. But now I’m starting something new. Have you ever heard of the growth mindset? I had a session at work that related to my work as a mental health professional, but I was thinking about it in terms of my art. One of the big takeaways is that you need mentors you can’t do it alone. There is always something else to learn. We have never arrived but continue learning and growing. Right now I feel that @christaforrestfineart is my mentor as I’ve been participating in a lot of her workshops. I also follow a lot of artists that serve me as inspiration. WIP I’m really pleased with my painting using the Zorn pallette and a little trick from @christaforrestfineart.
