Why all the hate?
So I'm new to tumblr and if you're reading this you have the privilege to witness my first post. I'm a massive fan of A Song of Ice and Fire. Huge. Not a week goes by where I don't read the books, peruse the websites, or listen to the audiobooks. I enjoy the TV show, but not nearly as much. Anyway, I'll get to the point... Listening to the most recent episode of A Podcast of Ice and Fire, featuring Elio and Linda from westeros.org, I was made aware of the current shitstorm that has surfaced around Linda and people's attitude towards her, notably on tumblr. Having nothing but time on my hands at the moment I decided to read up on this "conflict" and piece together the reasons for this sudden hatred towards her, with accusations of sexism, bullying and even racism being thrown around. There's even a petition to try and make GRRM cut all ties with her. After spending a few hours reading through her posts on hippoiathanatoi, the various negative comments people have made, and then her reactions on tumblr I quickly came to my own conclusion... A lot of you are fucking sad, pathetic assholes. Firstly let's put to bed these accusations of racism and sexism. Are you fucking serious? Calling somebody a cunt does not make you sexist, especially if the person saying it is a woman. Is that ignorant? No, it's logical. I'm from the UK so maybe my attitude towards the word is different, but here it's no big deal, at least where I live. It's only a word, and if you can be so easily offended by it then what are you doing reading A Song of Ice and Fire where it's used frequently...by a man. Is calling someone a dick as offensive as calling someone a cunt? Apparantly not, when in reality it should be. But that's just my point. The racism thing is even more laughable. A lot of people are really trying hard to find something they can use against her, the best I could find was her being upset with the ethnicities of the people cast in Qarth for the TV show. I didn't find a single "nigger" or "spic" or "cracker" at all. See I'm using racist language but I'm not being racist, weird huh? Her coming down on fac-fic is entirely in her right. Lets be honest, most of it is complete horseshit and the people who write it should be embarrassed. Even if there's a disclaimer saying there's no affiliation with GRRM it's still a representation of his work, and the standard is sorely lacking in pretty much all of it. As for her harassing people on tumblr, well maybe some of you should just ignore her posts and stop commenting. If you write horrible shit accusing her of being racist and sexist don't be suprised if she sees red and attacks you. A lot of you appear to be doing your best to piss her off. There was somebody who thought it would be funny to rag on her mush prose. Right, that's just mean and unnecessary. Role play is different to fan-fic and if you don't understand that well...I just don't know. A lot of this obviously stems from jealousy. They're jealous of Linda and her involvement with GRRM. They're jealous she gets to read samples first. They're jealous she knows him. They're jealous she was thanked in ADWD. They think "all she did was create a website with all the stuff in Westeros written down. I could have done that." But you didn't, SHE did. You're jealous. Well guess what? So am I. That doesn't mean I spit venom and find every available opportunity to shit all over her posts and her as a person. Get over it. If you don't like her then don't read her blog. It's not hard. You might think it's weird I'm defending someone I have zero connection with but I get really pissed off when people go on fucking witch hunts and start bending the truth and warping reality to try and fit the world they want. If you have actual proof of Linda Antonsson being a racist or being a bully, i.e using racist language towards someone of ethnicity or harassing someone who has not provoked her, I'd love to see it. I'm doubtful it exists. So yeah, there we go. Chill the fuck out and stop being a bunch of whining cunts... SEXISM! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE! Fucking lol.
