can we talk about how fuckin crazy and like. insanely loaded it is for gillion tidestrider, a paladin, chosen one, champion of the undersea and hero of the deep, to look at a rotting, undead chip staring at him with so much pain and pleading in his eyes as he says “really, look at me. i’m not even here anymore.” and firmly say “i don’t believe that. despite what my eyes see, despite what.. despite what my oath says, i don’t believe that.”

#so normal about this whole aspect of their relationship #i have to rant for a moment sorry op #chip just. keeps being gill's exception to things #gill was raised believing he would bring water to the land/drown the land etc #and like. lit. all of chip on my shoulder #'humans are wrong' but he meets chip and jay and they aren't #and again. all of chip on my shoulder Man.#he sees chip die and despite the fact that it's so ingrained in him to kill undead that he gets a STAT BONUS #he wants to help him instead #slightly silly example but i wrote a whole 6k about it so: gillion tidestrider defenestrator of adulterers kissed a married man #(i believe in divorce obv but HE SURE DOESN'T)#ik it's a bit but gill being so obsessed w chip's marriage but never expressing second thoughts about that beside 'it was what i had to do'#is. so.#gill clearly holds his values to be so important even as he's struggling with like. questioning the undersea #AND AFTER THAT BIT IN 114 #WHICH I THINK ABOUT SO MUCH #THE FUCKING. CHAIR #and he still protects chip! he follows chip into the hole in the sea to keep him safe!#what if you were a paladin raised to believe the undersea was better and the undead were wrong and monogamy was to be enforced lethally #and i was an undead human (+ in your view arguably an adulterer)#and you loved + protected me anyways #this is my favorite part of their dynamic it's so fucked up
