Chunky knit blankets, rainy afternoons, and new age instrumentals??? That’s my aesthetic
there’s honestly nothing worse than an apple that’s not crisp like don’t come near me with that grainy soft shit, that weak ass crunch i’d rather die
me: I want to run a studyblr for the aesthetic
me: *isn’t in college anymore*

me: *is too afraid to write anything on paper of the fear of making mistakes*
me: *keeps schedule and to-do lists in apps so bujo is pointless for me*

Constant struggle.
Literally none of my story ideas come with a plot, ever. WITHOUT FAIL, it’s always just an Aesthetic, like two and a half characters, some very, very vivid settings, and a weird concept. Never plot. Not even an inkling of a plot. My brain tosses me this cool stuff and is like welp i’ll be back in 4-5 business months
I’ve reblogged this before and I’ll reblog it again
Mind blown 😂
it’s time 2 quit being sedentary. If you are physically able, go outside. Not in a “go outside you strange internet hermit way” but just a “go walk down the street and be present in your own neighborhood” type way. Just noticing the seasons changing and paying attention to people and houses and street signs and critters is very very good for mental health and shakes off that dissociation, depersonalization feeling.
writing asian characters
as a half asian person, asian representaion is important to me, and i’m sure it is to all the other asians out there. but incorrect representation is far worse than no representation at all, so here are a few guidelines and things to keep in mind when writing an asian character.
things to keep in mind when naming:
please don’t make up names that “sound asian”. well known offender: cho chang from harry potter. hearing people mock me when i speak in my asian language by saying “ching chong chang” is bad enough, but making us asians read/hear about a character whose name is a constant reminder of that ignorance and racism really, really bothers me.
if the character was born in a different country, our first names aren’t always native to our language/country. we may or may not have a traditionally english name. a great example of this used correctly is ethan nakamura, from the percy jackson series.
coming up with a last name is not difficult - at all. just google “common (insert country/ethnicity) last names” and they’ll come up. use this for other ethnicities/races too!
this is really just common sense but don’t give a traditionally korean name to a japanese character, vietnamese name to a chinese character etc. (unless they are multiple ethnicities).
guidelines for physical descriptions:
please…don’t say they have slanted eyes. just don’t. almond eyes is a good alternative.
our skin isn’t yellow. we aren’t lemons. also, the asian race incorporates not just east asians but also filipinos and other much darker skinned people.
many east asians have straight, thick black hair. but again, even within the asian race we are diverse, so this isn’t always true.
of course, if your asian character is being faced with racism, you can have the racist character make fun of their eyes or skin. some asians make fun of themselves, but make sure you check w multiple asians to see if this joke is ok.
writing personalities, characteristics, quirks, etc.
asians can have any personality, just like any black, white, or hispanic character. they can be mean, they can be nice. just make sure that if you only have one asian character, they aren’t shown as a villain. if you have multiple asians on both the “good” and “bad” sides, that’s perfectly ok.
stereotypes can definitely affect your character. be concious of them.
people’s personalities and quirks are shaped by their parents/how they were raised. an asian kid adopted by white parents is not going to act the same way or entirely fit in with other asians raised by asian parents. their cultures (or their parents cultures) will affect them.
asian cultures
asians can be racist to other asians. in the past, koreans and japanese do not get along, and that has really showed in the japanese side of my family. my mother is quick to stereotype koreans she sees, but she does have korean friends she gets along with. racism among asians exists, and it’s not always black and white. rasicm also exists against other races; i’ve heard of an asian daughter who wasn’t allowed by her parents to marry a black man.
asians can have friends of multiple races/ethnicities
not all asians know their respective languages. some only know a little, some are completely fluent.
asians don’t know everything about other asian cultures, and can still accidentally insult other cultures. each culture is very different, so do your research on each one.
universal asian culture things: 1) no shoes in the house. 2) do well in school. 3) strict rules on cleanliness, going out, friendships, relationships, and curfew. 4) mothers always wear slippers for some reason. 5) attacking insolent children with said slippers. 6) screaming
religion is also varied. usually it’s either christianity or buddhism, although there are of course, exceptions. the native japanese religion is shinto.
taiwan was recently the first country to legalize gay marriage, which is good news, but that also means that many asian countries are against it or don’t fully support gayness. not all asians are like this! but it’s common for asian parents to be less understanding of this kind of stuff so keep that in mind if your asian character is going to be gay.
stereotypes and their affects
asians are smart. this one probably came around because many asian parents are very strict when it comes to their child’s education, but strictness doesn’t equal understanding a subject you just don’t get. this stereotype is usually detrimental to asians because people expect too much of them. if they do well, it’s expected and less people congratulate them. if they don’t, they’re shamed for it more.
asians are bad drivers. this one doesn’t affect asians as badly as the smart stereotype, but it’s still insulting.
asians all look alike. again, this one isn’t really that bad, just very annoying. yeah, some of us look similar, but a lot of us are very different. i was once compared to a guy who was fully vietnamese, whose skin must have been at least ten shades darker, with black hair and was on the chubby side. i’m japanese, half white, with brown hair, and definitely thinner than him. if i genuinely look like the person you’re comparing me to, it’s not a problem, but it’s definitely offensive when we’re very different types of asian. we are all different and unique, and it’s important that people respect that.
it’s important to remember that not all of the things i said are always true - there are always exceptions. i’ve probably missed a lot of things. i also don’t pretend to know about every different kind of asian. so if you have anything to add, feel free, and if you have any questions about how to portray an asian, ask someone of that ethnicity!
it’s okay if you didn’t realize that you belived in a stereotype or that you might have said something offensive once, as long as you learn from it and don’t do it again in the future. i hope non-asians learned something from this post. good luck writing your asian characters! heck yea representation

how to foreshadow
so i recently read the lottery by shirley jackson and i was blown away by the foreshadowing so here’s a short how to
basically all you need to do is hint at future events but very very subtly
make you reader go i should have seen that soming
chekhov once said if there’s a gun on stage it must go off or it has no business being present so everything you mention must pay off scenes later chekov’s gun is my favourite literary device
jk rowling is actually the master of this every trivial detail pays off in the end the diary they had to go back and get? it has voldemort in it! the locket they were polishing? it’s a horcrux! old irrelevant lady? actually a squib watching over you!
other ways to foreshadow include minor details like the battered box in the lottery is battered because it’s there at the stoning
you can also include prophecies and omens
it could also be a forgotten good deed like androcles and the lion
symbolism also works when something happens to the symbol that later happens to what it was symbolising
use your role as the narrator to foreshadow like in ootp it is said that entering the grimmauld place is like entering a dead man’s house and guess who fucking dies at the end of the book
here are some resources
types of foreshadowing
more types of foreshadowing
examples of foreshadowing in literature
types and examples of chekov’s gun
go write some amazing foreshadowing
all the best
If you liked my tips, consider buying me a virtual coffee to keep me writing.

Chapter Two
A Volatile Fog
The wail of a newborn was not a sound these two creatures were used. Not at such a close distance. Sometimes a baby might cry across a restaurant, but never at their own feet, where there wasn’t a parent around who could quiet the child.
And there was something else. Something that did not normally accompany the wail of a newborn. The pressure in the air heightened, like it did before a storm. Only instead of building up steadily for a few days, this flooded into the air fast and dizzying. The air was charged, unstable, and explosive. If someone were to light a match, there probably wouldn’t be much left of this part of the woods.
It almost felt like those first few days in Heaven, when the raw, primal energies of creation surged around the atmosphere. It was a volatile fog and Racham and Araphel were in the heart of it.
Racham made a complicated gesture with his hands and suddenly a small blanket apparated out of nothingness.
Araphel looked at him. “And on the fourth day God said: let there be a blanket,” he said dryly, albeit a bit nervously. He got deadpan when he was nervous. Or scared. And angry. And happy.
Racham rolled his eyes. “Just get over here.”
They managed to get the baby wrapped in the blanket. Racham held them the way he’d seen humans do, but it was mostly a lot of guess work. The baby settled down and so did their cries. The atmosphere around them calmed and went back to being cool, summer night air.
Araphel blinked uncertainly. “What do you suppose we do?”
“Pardon?”
“Well, it isn’t just a human baby. It’s a supernatural baby. We can’t just drop it off at a fire station or whatever it is people do. No telling what kind of a havoc a celestial-slash-occult baby could cow on the unsuspecting populace.
Racham thought about this for a minute. “Aren’t the fae always trying to get their hands on babies?”
“We are not giving a baby to the fae.”
“All right, all right.”
“And I don’t suppose we could just . . . give this baby to another demon or angel.”
Racham shook his head. “No. You heard them. Both sides wanna use this baby to End the War.”
“And if we were to give this baby to another Hellish deserter like Mammon or Barzelas—”
“The demonic energies would influence the child to become a demon. And it would be that much easier for Hell to use the child for their own means.”
“Not to mention no one else but us is hidden from Hell and Heaven’s sights.”
“And I couldn’t imagine Raziel or Raphael raising this baby in Heaven.”
“Someone would certainly discover the baby.”
Racham scratched his head with his free hand.
“Well,” Araphel began, “we could always . . .”
“What do you—oh. No.”
“Yes!”
“Nope!”
“Name a better idea.”
“I did!”
“That’s not the fae idea!”
“I beg you to reconsider the fae idea. ‘It takes a village’ and all that. And they could keep the baby in their parallel realm! Completely invisible to angels and demons!”
“Fae only want human children. They would instantly realize this baby is non-human. You know the only real solution we have. It’s up to us. Think about it. Combined, you and I would give this baby a perfectly neutral upbringing. The baby couldn’t be a tool for either side because they’ve would develop equal leanings to both sides. Plus, we are the same species as them, so we would be the best equipped to handle this baby.”
“Might I remind you that there has never been a celestial and or occult baby. Illay made all of us as we are now—vaguely twenty-somethings! We grew into our powers with the full intelligence and understanding to control them. Who’s to say that this baby won’t sneeze and accidentally smite something or someone! You saw Monsters Inc! That little girl laughed, and the entire city’s power surged and went out! And that was Pixar! This is real life!”
The baby became restless. A little sound escaped their mouth and the angel and the demon expected the little sound to explode into another full blown wail.
“I don’t think the baby likes when we argue,” Araphel said in a whisper.
Racham copied the whisper and placed a hand over the baby’s ears for good measure. “We aren’t arguing! We are having a very vital discussion about what to do with this baby that could probably kill both of us! When they cry, the air gets charged and erratic! This blessed infant can already change the molecular composition of the atmosphere and what’s worse—they can’t even control it! Who knows what else this baby can do! What if they bless people or curse them? On a whim, no less! And all this power has got to be radiating for miles around! Heaven and Hell are probably already on their way to get this child and capture both of us!”
As Racham ranted, Araphel’s expression grew bored, the way it usually did when he had made up his mind about something and was simply waiting for Racham to stop arguing and just do it. He took the baby from his demonic husband and began to walk back towards civilization. The baby stirred and cooed in his arms and he smiled down at them.
“Araphel, wait! Bless it all!”

Flux: Comedy Analysis
Okay, so I used to be pretty nervous about Racham stealing the whole series with his comedy, (this is a comedy series, after all) but I’ve finally figured out how they can both be funny in different ways.
Racham references pop culture (Ex. Monsters Inc and other animated movies.) and history (Ex. Communist Russia, he is always going on about destroying the bourgeois) for his dialogue humor. However, his actions come across as humorous because they often involve irony (Ex. him, a demon, saving a human girl and being called “a guardian angel” by the mother of the girl on the news). Most of his irony focuses on him being a demon but doing good things. He is also most often the one who does the “call-back”, i.e. referencing things that happened in the text (Ex. I changed around the last bit in chapter one to have him reference dropping the milk right before he’s about to get stabbed by the Archdemon). Racham is also most likely to in mundane situations where his dramatics, Extra-ness, and clumsiness makes the situation comedic. (Ex. going out for milk and tripping, breaking his glasses, and losing the milk and whining about it all night).
Araphel almost exclusively relies on deadpan (Ex. making a blasé joke when he could be moments from death in chapter two, or stating the plainly obvious) and sarcasm (Ex. not yet in the text) to be comedic. He also has some irony, usually involving the fact that he’s an angel, but is more likely to swear or be vulgar than Racham, the actual demon (Ex. calling his husband a “slut” or later, talking shit about the PTA moms). Araphel is also most likely to in dramatic and dangerous situations where his detached and bored approach makes the situation comedic. (Ex. someone threatening him but not giving a fuck and even encouraging them because he knows he can’t die).
As a bonus, I’ve included David’s humor. David is often used humorously as a foil for both Racham and Araphel, who are at times inept to recent events (Ex. using old names for countries, or certain famous humans being dead for, in some cases, literal centuries), certain things in pop culture (Ex. Racham knows Disney movies but not Classics, or knows some semi-popular musicians and painters but not the most popular ones, or tends to get them confused), and also correcting their idioms (Ex. Both Racham and Araphel misquote the idiom “a wealth of knowledge” in chapter two and David has to correct them, even though he’s a teenager and these are multiple millennia old supernatural entities).
There’s more characters to be analyzed but that’s all I’ll do for now!

15 Questions For Your OC
Rules: Pick a character from your WIP, and have them answer these 15 questions, then tag 15 people!
My nonbinary pal over at @adayforducks tagged me in this so thank you!!
1. What is your full name?
Rachamel.
2. What does your full name mean?
Rachamel means “compassion of God”. That’s what I was called as an angel. When we Fell though, we all dropped the -el from our names. Some of us even changed it entirely, but I kept it.
3. What are your nicknames/other names?
[REDACTED]
4. What’s your gender?
Gender doesn’t exist for my species, but to a human’s perspective, I express myself masculinity and I use he/him pronouns, so most humans assume I am a cis male.
5. What’s your sexuality?
I do like getting dicked down a lot so, if we assume I’m a cis male, then I suppose I’M GAY AS FUCK.
6. Where are you from?
Our word for it is Shemaiah, but humans would assume it’s Heaven (even though the place humans go to when they die and the place where angels live are completely different realms.)
7. How old are you?
Slightly over six-thousand years old.
8. What is your magic form/What species are you?
I’m a fallen angel, but that’s not a species. We’re simply angels that fell. When I fell, I lost my ability to do blessings like angels, but the energies of Hell gave me different powers. For example, while I can no longer heal others, my body is completely self-healing. (Angels can’t heal themselves, something about selflessness while demons are selfish.) Also, I’m immune to Hellfire, obviously, and regular fire, too.
My true form is something a bit hard to grasp. It’s very, very tall, and made mostly of smoke and fire and I something that resembles a skeleton, but not the skeleton on any creature you’ve ever heard of. I think you can understand why God went with the human design in the end.
9. What does your human form look like?
I’ve got long, thin legs, a short torso, dark hair, and skin that’s vaguely not White. Also, my eyes are magenta.
10. What’s your aesthetic?
Modern farmhouse. Gray marble counter-tops, white cabinets with exposed black hinges, stainless steal appliances, a sunken living room, the smell of hay wafting in through the windows on a summer night, blankets knit from the wool of my own sheep, a herding dog sleeping at my feet, waking up at dawn to move the flock out to the pastures, my husband at my side (he’s named all the sheep and can tell them apart), making tea, and buying honey and raspberries at the farmer’s market every summer.
11. Who’s your best friend?
Araphel is my best friend and my husband. We’ve known each other since nearly the dawn of time.
12. Would you ever get a piercing/tattoo?
Can’t. My body heals itself automatically. The tattoo would probably stay, but I don’t see the need to put something on my body for aesthetic purposes.
13. When are you happiest?
Settling into a new city with Araphel. We move every twenty years to avoid raising suspicion, since neither of us age, and the best part for me, is unpacking our boxes and figuring out while floor boards creak the most and which windows are drafty and how you have to jam the key in just right to get it to catch. Learning everything about a new home is my favorite part.
14. What’s your biggest secret?
I don’t have any secrets from Araphel, but I would say the thing Araphel and I try to keep secret is the status of our souls: namely that inside my corporeal form is Araphel’s soul (or rather, half of it, the other half is in the realm of souls, but that’s a whole other story), and half of my soul is inside Araphel’s body. Because are souls are split in half, it makes our auras disappear (as they have to be whole in order to give off an aura). Because of this, angels and demons cannot find us.
15. What was your first impression of Araphel?
[REDACTED]
