haha right? Like, sure, I guess if we’re directly asking ‘who would you rather have to be on a dodgeball team with’ Kier’s less likely to throw you directly at an oncoming ball but ???? stop this nonsense.

hey value being kind to those who’ve done you kindness, paying and repaying debts, acting with dignity and grace, being loyal to the Queen despite one’s own personal yearnings (She is, after all, eternal, and rarely is that desire that currently feels so important quite so permanent), being neat and well-presented, being cruel only when necessary, exercizing careful judgement, and looking out for oneself and one’s allies/friends. If service to the queen or caring for the wellbeing of the Seelie court or your beloved or your own life means you must be horrid, must trick someone, then so be it. 

Meliorn checks all of those boxes, and passes every test with flying colors. That doesn’t mean it’s easy for him--he doesn’t like that he’s always performing to a T to earn respect a full-blooded Seelie knight might command with ease, nor does it sit lightly that he’s almost always had to choose duty over heart (’almost’ only refers to the brief periods where they happen never to cross paths). But he does it. And in many ways, this serves as a kind of excuse to him, when he does something with an adverse effect on someone. He tends to justify means with ends, and actions with rules he’s following, rather than evaluating himself on matters of ‘am I acting in a way I approve of? is this good?’
