people left wattpad because of censorship, those same people are now DEMANDING censorship from a nonprofit organization that’s entire platform and community is being against censorship.
let’s all put our thinking caps on and stop reporting people and harassing authors because ao3 has a lovely tagging system you can use to exclude anything you don’t want too see- but it is NOT your place to exclude works from others.
being anti-censorship means you are against ALL forms of censorship- not being okay with some things and not others because it makes you feel morally superior.
you don’t have to condone the fictional character, content, plot, and themes in real life- but guess what? if its on ao3- ITS FICTIONAL.
no one is being harmed and you- the reader- consented to reading the work when you ignored the tags, warnings, and authors notes. you cannot get upset for reading dark fiction when you ignored all of the dark fiction warnings.
i was 10 years old when i first started on ao3- and i learned on my own to filter out what triggered me and to exclude tags i wasn’t ready for yet. if a 10 year old girl who grew up in a conservative christian home can figure out how to use the website & tagging- so can the grown adults who are ruining the ao3 community with the vitriol they are spreading.
calling for censorship doesn’t make you morally superior, it makes you an uneducated oaf.
use the tagging system, listen to the content warnings- don’t get upset by finding what was warned in the fic. if you don’t want to read it- close your tab and move on
