Synopsis: Halloween with John Constantine

“Is this really necessary, luv?”
“Come on, John! It’s halloween!”
“You look better than usual.”
John snorted, “Thanks, luv.”
You grinned. “Your welcome, now, go scare some kids.” You said as you heard the knock on the door, giving him a pat on the ass as he passed.
John walked to the front door obediently.
“Braaains.” He slurred and little kids laughter echoed over to you.
“Do you have some yummy brain treats for me? What about yours. Is your brain yummy?”
The kids giggled some more and you could hear John handling the goodie-bags you’d put together for the night.
“Thank you Mr. Zombie!” One kid shouted.
“Watch out for other zombies! They may not be as nice as me.” John called out after them before closing the door.
You bit your lip to stop yourself from laughing as John returned to you, feet shuffling and a look of regret plastered on his painted green face with badly applied temporary scar tattoos. “How come you get to be a pretty princess?”
“Because,” you purred, “this ‘pretty princess’ might need a little help later with something.”
John had clearly turned red under the paint at this surprise but it was easily recovered with a smirk.
“God, I love you,” he leant in to kiss you, caressing your face but a knock at the door came just as his lips had barely grazed yours. John cursed under his breath but went to the door.
You went to the kitchen to grab some of your own snacks and laid them out on the coffee table and set up the pile of horror films, first DVD already in the player.
“The little buggers just kept coming!” John complained as he plonked himself on the couch next to you. “Can’t we just pretend not to be home.” He begged with wide puppy dog eyes.
“Come on, John. Don’t ruin Halloween for the children.”
“Our neighbors are still giving them lollies. They don’t need anymore from us.”
You glared at John playfully and he sighed before facing you with a wide smile. “For the kids.” He tilted your head upwards so he could try again at a kiss, but it seemed the world didn’t want it to happen as kids screamed “trick or treat” from the front of the house.
John practically growled as he got up. “Braaiinss.”
He may have been annoyed but your heart fluttered as you watched him make an effort to do as you said. You’d have to make it up to him later.
