Drawing is simply another way of seeing, which we don’t really do as adults. Children see all the time. Children are always drawing with their eyes. I think that’s part of what becoming an artist is, is getting back in touch with that sense of experience and wonder that you have as a kid… [T]he act of drawing is seeing, it’s trying to see something, and it puts you into a completely different mental state. It puts you into a state of being in that moment for that specific moment and understanding reality in a way that adults are very, very good at not doing. We spend most of our lives kind of getting out of the way of things, trying to remember stuff, trying to get through the day, certain regrets and problems, mistakes that we made, either an hour before or years before, come back to us. So, we spend much of our time just in this sort of cloud of remembrance and anxiety, but trying to live in that moment is a very difficult accomplishment. I think drawing encourages that more than anything.

Flipada teòrica de l'Ari #1 Els colors.

Avui m'he adonat que tota la meva vida he tingut por d'utilitzar colors quan pinto. Sempre tant poc saturats i sobredimensionadament realistes. M'explico: quan dibuixo un arbre, per exemple, i és el moment de posar-hi colors em dic: un arbre? Verd, clar…. Com? Doncs no té per què! Quan passejo sovint em quedo al·lucinada de la quantitat de colors que pot arribar a tenir una fulla, per exemple. Això, això és el que he de buscar quan pinto. No el color fàcil sinó l'extraordinari. El que em transmet quan comprenc el que veig. Penso que aquesta flipada ha estat un petit pas però un de molt important a l'hora de millorar. Ara només he de ser capaç de traslladar-ho al llenç….

So today I had this feeling like all of my life I’ve been afraid of using colors when I’m painting. Always so little saturated and over-realistic… I mean: I’m drawing a tree and its time to get the colors so… a tree? Green, of course. What? It’s not that simple… I use to go walking and most of the time I’m looking around and feel overwhelmed by all the small different colors in one leaf, for example. This, this is what I need to search when I’m painting, not the easy color but the extraordinary one. I think I just did a small step but a very important one. Now I just have to be able to translate this to the canvas from now on… This was Ari’s first crazy master class of the day. Take care!
