Vastly Different Circumstances
Story Summary: Isaak Sirko once told Dexter Morgan that he was alone because of him, but after being shot by George and learning of Viktor betraying him, it seems Dexter may be the only one he has left. The heart is irrational and soon he finds himself falling for Dexter, in which he dreams of the two together on an intimate level.
Chapter 6 Summary: The sister is still deeply unapproving, Dexter is confused (as usual), and Isaak is having a crisis.
Content: Enemies to Friends to Lovers, eventual romance, eventual sex, dreams, Autistic Dexter Morgan.
It was the 18th of December meaning Christmas was just about a week away. The Miami heat that blazed down upon the population did not keep people from coming and indulging in Christmas festivities though.
Here Dexter was in line with Jamie and Debra to take Harrison to see Santa Claus. Harrison seemed thoroughly excited as he waited patiently in line holding onto Jamieâs hand. Meanwhile the two siblings were standing next to one another, with Dexter being abnormally quiet.
âWhere the fuck are you, the north pole?â Deb suddenly says, âyou havenât said anything since weâve been here.â Deb brings up and Dexter looks over at her and then around the area. He takes sighs deeply, something clearly bothering him. âWhat is it?â Deb questions with a hint of concern laced in her voice.
âYou sure you wanna know?â he asks as he looks from the distance and then over at her face.
âOh Jesus, just tell me..â Debra sighs as she stares at her brother in front of her.
âLaGuertaâs still looking into the Bay Harbor Butcher..â Dexter finally admits and Debra curses under her breath. âTalked to Matthews yesterday, sheâs pulled him into the investigation.â Dexter adds and Debraâs eyes widen.
âWhat!?â Debra exclaimed, she almost would have yelled, but she didnât want to pull full attention to them both.
Dexter sighed, âIt gets worse, they think it's me.â Dexter informs Debra who looks shocked.
âYou werenât gonna fucking tell me? Do they have anything?â Debra frantically responds, of course not dropping the vulgar language. What was Debra Morgan without her signature âpottyâ mouth?
âI donât know.. I need to put them off this once and for all..â Dexter muttered as he quietly contemplated to himself, especially since he still had Estrada on his mind. Actually he would be paying Estrada a visit soon, perhaps get him on his table by Christmas Eve.
Debra looks deeply conflicted, âhow?â she questions again as Dexterâs eyes move to look at her again.
âGive them definitive proof that Doakes was the butcher, planting evidence-â
âYou canât do that, not with those two on your case..â
âWeâll just have to be very careful.â Dexter then walked away from her to pull up in line. Harrison was already getting up on Santaâs lap, with Jamie asking what he wants for Christmas.
âFuck it, itâs too risky Iâll do it.â Debra mutters as she looks at Harrison with Santa Claus.
Dexter immediately turned his head, âDeb no.â he replied to her offer.
The offer really wasnât an offer though, âIâm not gonna let Harrison grow up without a father and I donât wanna argue about it.. I just want this to be the end once and for all.â Debra sternly tells Dexter.
Before he can say anything else, Jamie calls them over to take a photo with Santa. Deb and Dex both go over to pose and take a nice family photo, their worried emotions hidden behind bright smiles.
After the photo all four of them walked to go get ice cream at a nearby stand. While waiting in line there, Harrison turned to his father next to him.
âWhy couldnât Mr. Sirko come?â Harrison asks and Dexterâs eyes widen as Jamie freezes.
âI- uh⊠he..-â Dexter immediately choked up on his words as Debra turned to stare at him.
Debra smirked, but Dexter could feel the fire as Debra looked down at Harrison. âHarrison, whoâs Mr. Sirko?â she questions as Harrison looks over at her.
âIsaak!â The little boy exclaims as she then looks at Dexter.
âSeriously?â She says in disbelief and scoffs, âI shouldâve fucking known you were still seeing him.â Debra shakes her head. âWhat are you two friends now?â Debra asks and Dexter nods slowly.
âDebra, Mr. Sirko is a great guy.â Jamie tells Deb, âI know you two donât get along, but donât express it in front of Harrison.â Jamie crosses her arms and Deb with an annoyed face looks away with her own arms crossed.
Debra then looks back over at Dexter, he knows the look sheâs giving him, the look of âwe are going to talkâ and he simply meekly smiles at her. It didnât help that his sister was pissed over the serial killer business and Hannah McKay, rightfully so on the Hannah part, but now the whole Isaak thing was going to set her off more.
Dexter finally looked down at Harrison, âIsaak can come next year, okay buddy?â Dexter assures his son who looks deeply happy at the response.
The four soon order Ice cream and Dexter tries his best to act normal around his sister.
Dexter took Jamie and Harrison back to the apartment, then drove to Miami Metro to keep working. Before Dex could go to his lab, he was intercepted by Debra, who ushered him into her lieutenant office.
Dexter immediately followed and closed the door behind him, inhaling, and exhaling as he looked at her.
Mentally preparing himself.
âCare to explain why Harrison knows who Isaak Sirko is?â Debra asks as sheâs sitting down in her chair with a menacing expression laced on her face.
âIsaakâŠâ Dexter opened his mouth, âheâs my friend.â Dexter admits and Debra scoffs a laugh. She bites her lip as she shakes her head back and forth in a steady motion.
âHe was being fucking serious in the hospital room when he said you were there as a friend.â Deb says as the realization crashes down on her. âAbout two weeks ago he was trying to fucking kill you- Jesus Dexter! Are you attracted to danger?â Debra exclaims as Dexter laughs dryly.
âDeb, the thing between Isaak and I was personal, but different circumstances came up between the both of us.â Dexter swiftly replies with desperation in his voice.
âThat doesnât fucking change anything Dexter! Heâs a goddamn Russian mafia boss!â Debra barked as she sat at her desk, arms resting on the wood.
Without hesitation Dexter opened his mouth up, âUkrainian.â Dexter corrected her with his arms crossed.
âSame fucking thing.â Debra responded as she shook her head, âand donât tell me why it isnât- you get my goddamn point, heâs dangerous.â She tells Dexter who walks forward towards her desk.
Dexter pressed his own palms onto the wood, looking Debra straight in the eyes. âIsaak is loyal, a man of his word, and⊠I like.. I like hanging out with him, Deb.â Dexter sincerely told her as he looked into her brown eyes. âHeâs fun to talk to, I feel⊠natural with him, more natural than I do with Hannah.â Dexter admitted as he took in his own words, actually he was processing his entire fucking (in Debra fashion) emotions.
Debra leaned back in her chair, âSo youâre in love with him?â she suddenly says and Dexterâs eyebrows widen and furrow in shock
âWhat?â He said with a tone of pure disbelief. âNo!? Did you hear what I said? Heâs a friend Deb- I feel like he could be my best friend, one that Iâve never had before.â Dexter hastily speaks as he lets the words flow out of his mouth.
âBatista, Masuka?â Debra immediately retorted as she stared at her brother.
âTheyâre not my best friends, theyâre just work friends..â Dexter mutters as he glances down at the paperwork littered across Debraâs desk, âbut with Isaak I feel like I can trust himâŠÂ I feel warm.â Dexter tells her with a deep exhale as he looks at her. His emotions were complicated and the way he felt was something he had never exactly felt before. In the past he hesitated to let anyone in, when he did that was with Miguel and it went terribly wrong. Sure he was letting Hannah in, but the way he felt with her wasnât like how he felt with Isaak.
Doesnât necessarily mean theyâre in love.
âYeah because he tolerates your little serial killer charade.â Debra mockingly muttered as she looked away from her brother with a sour expression.
Dexter immediately barked back, âhe doesnât even know Iâm a serial killer!â Dexter exclaims desperately, âhe- he knows Iâm dangerous and I can kill people, but not to the extent of that.â Dexter seems exasperated, this whole conversation was a lot.
Debra took notice and put her hands on her head to rub her temples, âthen why donât you fucking tell him?â she curses in disbelief as she looks at the man in front of her who was âsadlyâ her brother.
Dexter seemed to pause, thinking about his words, his emotions. He took a deep breath and let himself settle down. The man stood up fully and kept looking at the floor, âIâm.. scared of how he will react..â Dexter whispered as Debra listened with heavy ears. âIâm worried about what heâd think, IâmâŠÂ scared of losing him.â Dexter confessed and Debra took her hands off of her head.
âJesus Dexter..â She mumbled as she processed her own thoughts on this whole shitshow. âIâve never seen you like... this..â Debra quietly replies as she bites her lip after.
Dexter closes his eyes, âIsaak is just staying at my apartment until he gets situated, if you ever want to come over Iâll kick him into my bedroom or the other apartment for a few hours.â Dexter finally says and Debraâs head perked up.
âWait, heâs living in your apartment?â Debra sounds shocked and Dexter sighs deeply in annoyance.
âGoodbye Debra.â Dexter tells her and goes to leave the office. Debra doesnât chase after him, she just sits at her desk with her right hand holding her head up.
âWhat the fuck..?â Debra mutters under her breath, she really could not understand her brother. As his sister as well she couldnât neglect the way Dexter spoke about Isaak, the pure passion in his voice, the look on his face.
It seemed Dexterâs âtableâ may be Isaak and she needed to respect that.
The whole rest of Dexterâs day he was left thinking about all the words he spurted out to Debra in her office. They were all true, all real, every bit of it was as intense as it sounded. But the intensity was actually so much for him to process as a man who was gaslighted by his adoptive father to believe he was an emotionless monster.
Dex sat in his car alone outside of the Miami Metro station, simply staring at a blank wall deep in his thoughts.
They were rudely interrupted at the sound of his phone going off, which he swiftly checked. It was a message from Hannah reading, âHELPâ and his eyebrows furrowed at the message.
It seemed Hannah might be in trouble, so he rushed to go help her, instead of going to stalk Estrada like he was planning to do.
He was deeply annoyed to find out she was not, in some fucked up way that was. âDid you really have to choose this big of a Christmas tree?â Dexter mutters as Hannah chuckles, him hiding his bitterness inside. He hated when his plans were changed, but at this point in life he got used to it despite wanting to flip out deep down over it.
âWell any size smaller wouldâve looked like Charlie Brownâs tree.â Hannah tells Dexter who shakes his head.
That desperate help she wanted? Was just her moving a Christmas tree into her home.
âHey.. Dexter, I was thinking, do you want to help me decorate my tree?â She asks with a smile, her eyes looking into Dexterâs.
âNo, I want to stalk Hector Estrada and figure out his new routine now that heâs out of prison.â Dexter tells himself, but he canât say that.
âNah, I uh.. Gotta get some work done.â Dexter tells Hannah and cracks a smile at her, âsorry..â Dexter mutters and Hannah shakes her head.
âItâs alright..â Hannah tells Dexter and comes forth to him, âIs it about Estrada?â she asks as she puts her hands on his shoulders. Dexter stares down at her, his own eyes deeply looking into her eyes.
They were blue in colour, but not as vibrant as Isaakâs hue.
âYeah..â He replied quietly as she moved to run a hand through his hair. âI need him on my table..â Dexter tells Hannah who keeps smiling.
âYouâll get him, Dexter.â Hannah hums as she then moves to cup his face, pulling him into a kiss. Warmth blossomed within him, but it wasnât as strong as when he first was with her.
He felt warmer with Isaak.
But he wasnât even in love with Isaak.
He was left confused with his own emotions, shouldnât his lover make him feel stronger than a friend?
Dexter kissed her sweetly before pulling away, âIâll talk to you later.â Dexter tells her as he turns away to escape back to his car. He crossed the street after looking both ways and got in the driver's seat. Dex slammed the door and sat there, staring at the car across to him as he processed his thoughts.
He really needed to kill someone.
He really needed to kill Estrada.
But first he needed to get LaGuerta and Matthews off of his tail, which Debra was in charge of doing.
Life was a mess, a bloody mess.
Debra had shown up at Dexterâs apartment after planting a fishing box at LaGuertaâs place. She was pretty damn stressed and needed to sit and have a beer with her brother.
Isaak on the other hand was told Debra would be over. So the man simply went and took a shower, staying out of sight.
But still, the man couldnât resist the idea of a confrontation.
He walked into the kitchen and didnât say anything, but Debraâs eyes landed on him. She looked at Dexter immediately and Dexter tried to keep calm.
âDid you tell him to act like Iâm not here?â Debra asks and Isaak didnât hesitate to peek his head from around the corner.
âLieutenant! How nice to see you again.â Isaak exclaims with fake enthusiasm and a smirk plastered on his face.
Debra looks over at him with her own smirk, shaking her head. âFuck you.â Debra responds and Dexter opens his mouth to say something to her but is beaten by Isaak.
âAh, no thank you.â Isaak hums, âyou arenât my type.â He remarks with a smug expression as Debra bites her cheek.
âWhy didnât you kill him again?â Debra whispers to Dexter.
âIsaakâs great.â Dexter tells Debra and flashes a smile at Isaak in the kitchen.
âNot with that smug expression.â Debra laughs, âheâs practically punchable.â Debra adds and Isaak is deeply amused rather than offended.
Dexter sighs, âyou really wanna punch him, Deb? Youâre the one who nicknamed him the fucking terminator.â Dexter brings up and Deb shakes her head as she takes a drink of beer.
âThank you for the compliment.â Isaak hums calmly, âperhaps for the sake of your dear brother Dexter, we should make a truce.â Isaak then suggests as he steps out from the kitchen for a moment and leans on the wall.
âI hope you get shot on your other side.â Deb remarks and Dexter looks at her with a not too pleased expression.
âDebra.â Dexter sternly says as Isaak laughs, finding great humour in Debra. Still though, heâd gladly punch her in the face if she wasnât Dexterâs sister let alone the Lieutenant of Miami Metro Homicide.
âFine, fine, I can come to a truce.â Debra mutters as she looks over at Isaak in the kitchen, âhow are you today, Mr. Sirko?â Debra asks âsweetlyâ with a mocking look written all over her face.
âIâm doing just fine, thank you.â Isaak replies as he goes back into the kitchen and continues to prepare the tea kettle in the kitchen.
Debra got up from her chair and went into the kitchen, âso why are you living here at my brotherâs apartment, huh?â She interrogates as Isaak stands near a metal tea kettle. Meanwhile Dexter took a drink of his beer from the bottle and listened quietly to the two.
âAn employee of mine swayed my brotherhood to turn on me.â Isaak tells Debra and gave a little head tilt, âit was for good reason actually, considering I wanted your brother dead and would do anything to spill his blood even if it meant putting important business aside.â Isaak explains to her and Debraâs eyes narrow like a hawk.
âSo why didnât you kill him? Or how do I know you arenât going to try?â Debra interrogates with her hands on her hips.
âDifferent circumstances came up between the two of us, we get along well, even when enemies.â Isaak replies, âDexter is a good friend of mine now, Iâm a man of my word, lieutenant.â Isaak firmly says as the tea kettle begins to whistle.
Debra glanced over at Dexter who was sitting over on the couch.
âHeâs trustworthy, Deb.â Dexter gazes at her, âdo you know how many times he could have shot me but he didnât?â Dexter brings up as he takes a drink of his beer.
She ends up giving it a rest and looks at Isaak again, âso what are you going to do?â She questions calmly with full curiosity as she watches Isaak preparing himself a cup of tea.
âIâll be contacting the brotherhood tomorrow, it wonât be too hard to turn them on George.â Isaak informs Debra.
âSo George Novikov is alive?â Debra suddenly asks.
âYes.â Isaak blankly responded because the truth was George was absolutely not alive. He was in the Miami waters, probably floating off somewhere. Dexter hid an amused expression beside his blank face as Debra looked between the two.
Both men were very good liars.
Debra grabbed two more beers from the fridge and sauntered over to her brother again. Isaak finished making a cup of tea before exiting from the small kitchen to the bedroom. âGoodnight you two.â Isaak bidded farewell and flaunted a smile at the two siblings sitting on the couch.
âI donât like him, but at least heâs amusing.â Debra chimed to her brother who chuckled at the comment.
âIsaakâs a good guy to go to when you want a great conversation, even if heâs your sworn enemy.â Dexter informs Debra who shakes her head.
âAnd is that how you two became friends?â Debra queries as she stares at Dexter with curiosity.
âI followed him to a bar, where we had a long chat..â Dexter recounts the memory, âhe told me it was a shame that we were enemies, since under different circumstances we could have been good friends.â Dexter tells the bar story to his sister as they both sip on beer.
âSo you two just always had chemistry and for some fucked up reason had to act on it?â Debra responds and Dexter shoots a glare.
âViktor Baskov, the man who killed Mike Anderson, was a close friend of Isaakâs, a best friend actually. He was out to avenge Viktorâs death, but we learned from George that Viktor had betrayed Isaak which changed everything entirely between us.â Dexter fully explains to Debra, âIâm the better friend now.â Dexter flaunts and Debra rolls her eyes.
Perhaps comparing yourself to your friend's boyfriend isnât so great, but Dexter wasnât hearing himself. Good thing that Debra didnât know that Viktor was actually Isaakâs lover as well, things did not look good for Dexter.
Debra looked at the ceiling, âwell I prefer you being around Isaak rather than Hannah, I mean at least he has personality.â Debra remarks and Dexter furrows his eyebrows.
âHannah does have personality.â Dexter defends Hannah as Debra snorts.
âYeah sure, she has the fucking personality equivalent to an unwanted weed in someone's garden.â Debra makes another comment that has Dexter sigh.
âIâm going to bed.â Dexter tells Debra who groans.
âDex, I was just joking!â Debra exclaims as she gets up and finishes the last of her beer.
âGoodnight, Debra.â Dexter tells her and walks over to the front door to unlock it. Debra grabs her things and smiles sourly at Dex before saying goodnight.
Dexter went on ahead to clean up the living room of the beer bottles and other garbage left on the table. After cleaning up the apartment he went down to his bedroom, in which Isaak was currently occupying. He knocked and Isaak told him to come in, where a first aid kit was on the bed and Isaak standing in front of the closet, searching through it.
âNeed help with the wound?â Dexter asks as he stands at the door frame, the faint sound of opera music playing in the background.
âI'd appreciate it.â Isaak remarks as he picks out a neatly tailored outfit for the morning.
Dexter closes the door behind him and looks at the source of the opera music. âYou always seemed like someone who'd enjoy opera.â Dexter remarks as Isaak turns to him.
âYes, I deeply appreciate opera, I always have.â Isaak tells Dexter as he closes the closet door where he left the set of clothes prepared for the morning. âOpera, classical, baroque.. Theyâre the only remnants of myself before I was sent to boarding school.â Isaak informs Dexter as he sits down on the bed.
âHuh.â Dexter replied while shaking his head, listening to the opera being played on the radio. âWhat's this one?â He curiously asks as Isaak sits on the edge of the bed.
âPourquoi me rĂ©veiller, the third act.â Isaak tells Dexter and makes sure to accurately pronounce the French, a well educated man he was after all.
âWhat does that mean?â Dexter questions some more, âtook Spanish in high school instead of French.â Dexter adds and Isaak chuckles at the comment.
âIt's French for why do you awaken me.â Isaak hummed as Dexter listened to both him and the opera at the same time. âIt's a somber aria about a man who is in love with someone who is already married. He compares her to spring and the spring caresses him, but then the storm comes and he comes back to the cold reality that he is unable to love her.â Isaak fully gives the details of the opera and Dexter nods slowly.
âWowâŠâ Dexter opens his mouth, âthat's tragic.â Dexter dryly responds and Isaak chuckles, genuinely amused by Dexterâs somehow dry yet expressive reactions.
âIsn't it?â Isaak replies, âwhat kind of music do you listen to, Dexter?â Isaak then inquired with the slight tilt of his head.
Dexter paused for a moment, âmarching music.â He then admitted which caused Isaak to even furrow his brows. Dexter glanced back over at him, âhelps me think..â he added and Isaak chuckles.
âYou have your⊠marching music, and I have my opera, eh?â Isaak smiles and Dexter returns the facial gesture. Isaak sighs gently and taps the bed, âI have to visit the Foxhole in the morning, let's hurry and get this wound fixed up, shall we?â Isaak brings up and opens the first aid kit resting next to an alcohol bottle.
âRight.â Dexter comes over to Isaak who's calmly sitting on the edge of the bed, same routine.
Yet Isaak felt butterflies fill his stomach as he watched Dexter get down again. He calmly swallowed the lump in his throat that had oddly formed and watched Dexter like a wolf eyeing its prey.
But Dexter was a different kind of prey.
Isaak took his shirt off silently and allowed Dexter to peel off the previous bandage carefully. âLooks good⊠no infection.â Dexter mutters as he grabs what is needed to clean the wound.
The smell of alcohol soon fills the air as Dexter pours it onto something.
Isaak kept his mouth shut as he watched the man, icy blue eyes fixated on Dexter. He resisted the urge to reach his hand out and run his hand through Dex's fluffy ginger locks- that were quite the mess at the moment.
Dexter glanced up at Isaak, âready?â He asks Isaak and Isaak snaps out of his gaze and fixates on the dark green eyes peering up at him. He froze again, taking in the features of Dexter's face.
He had already said he was handsome, but now that he wasn't blood thirsty, he could fully enjoy the elegant yet dark beauty of Dexter Morgan.
âIsaak?â Dexter spoke again and Isaak stopped his thoughts.
âYes, I'm ready.â Isaak swiftly replies to Dexter and Dex soon moves to press the alcohol soaked pad against the wound on Isaak. Isaak cursed under his breath as he closed his eyes. As he closed his eyes, all that he could see was Dexter. His fingers dug into the bed and he grounded himself. âBloody hell.â Isaak muttered as Dexter kept dabbing it along the wound.Â
Isaak was less concerned about the pain and more about his thoughts, fighting any that roamed the territory of no return.
Dexter soon pulled away and grabbed another bandage to place on the wound. âAll done.â He informs Isaak and Isaak opens his eyes and looks at Dex.
âThank you.â Isaak says and Dexter nods while he grabs the bed and Isaak's leg to help himself up. The action was innocent, but the lingering touch of Dexter burned on his thigh.Â
âYou should get some rest.â Dexter tells Isaak as he throws out the bloodied items and closes the first aid kit up to place on the dresser.
âThat I will.â Isaak replies without looking at the man, âdo me a favour and shut the music off.â Isaak mutters and Dexter obeys to go do so.Â
The opera music turns off, leaving silence between the two of them.Â
âNight Isaak.â Dexter finally says to his friend and shuts the bedroom light off, opening the bedroom door and leaving after one last glance at Isaak.
Isaak sighed, âgoodnight Dexter.â He muttered to himself silently as he leaned back to stare at the ceiling.Â
The room was casted with the hue of blue and the soft glow of the moonlight.
Isaak glanced over at the plant on Dexter's dresser, the once pink and proud flowers were now wilting.Â
Isaak closed his eyes with a sigh and moved to lay down in bed. He laid down on his right side, pulling the covers over himself gently.
Sleep, an action that he so greatly needed.
Tomorrow was an important day.
Sleep would be considered an escape from oneâs problems, but for Isaak it was continuously slapping him in his face.
Each night's rest, a dream encountered his mind that was in a state of peace.Â
Each dream slapped him right in the face, but this time it was hard.
It might as well have been a punch.
(I highly encourage you read the next part after this line while listening to 'Salut d'Amour by Edward Elgar' for an even more immersive experience while reading.)
There he was on the edge of the bed with Dexter, no first aid kit in sight. The two men were just sitting and talking, with a classical tune playing in the background.
âNo opera tonight?â Dexter in the dream remarks and turns his head to look at Isaak.
âNot tonight, I wanted to enjoy a beautiful classical composition.â Isaak replies to Dexter as he glances over at him.
âWhatâs this one?â Dexter questions as he listens to the sound of a piano and a violin beautifully blended together.
Isaak sits and closes his eyes, âSalut d'Amour Op.12, composed by Edward Elgar.â Isaak responded as he himself listened to the music filling the room. Both of his hands were resting on both sides of him against the bedsheets. Dexter glanced over at Isaakâs left hand that was closest to him.Â
Dexter moved his right hand over, the movement careful, gliding like a feather as it soon rested on top of Isaakâs. âAnd whatâs it about?â Dexter questions once again as Isaak opens his eyes to look at the man next to him.
âA romantic composition made just for his wife, the title means Loveâs Greeting.â Isaak informs Dexter as he looks at the man in the eyes. âItâs an intimately crafted piece showing his love and devotion to his wife, Alice.â Isaak softly smiles as Dexter chuckles lightly and looks at his feet as he holds Isaakâs hand.
âVery romantic.â Dexter remarks as his thumb gently brushes over Isaak's hand.
âIt is.â Isaak softly replies as he leans over and presses a gentle kiss over on Dexterâs neck. Dexter picks his head back up to turn to Isaak, those icy blue eyes staring into his soul, extending a hand out to it for a nice waltz.
Dexter soon pulled Isaak into a kiss in the dream, lips intertwined as their souls warmly danced together. Soon enough Isaak had pulled Dexter closer to him as their lips refused to part from each other.
More time passed as the melody played in the background, with Dexter soon laying back on the bed with Isaak on top. The two kissed gracefully, passion laced in every movement of their lips and touch of their hands.
Dexterâs fingertips ran through Isaakâs hair, the fire between them melting one another. The music continued to play as gradually their dance in bed grew even more intense, clothes peeling off.
The sound of a sweet symphony filled the room, but with the rendition of gasps and soft groans being added.Â
Isaakâs fingertips grabbed the waistband of Dexterâs briefs, going to pull them off of his body.Â
But as the composition being played ended, so did Isaakâs sleep.Â
Isaak was left gasping as his eyes were wide staring at the ceiling with ripples of waves moving across the room. He looked around, taking in his surroundings, the eerie silence that filled the room outside of his breathing.Â
He sat up from the bed, running his hand over his face and cursing. The dream was still ingrained in his head, the things he had imagined doing with Dexter. Isaak fully couldnât believe himself as he got up from the bed and went to the kitchen, where the time of 4:06AM was written on the stove.Â
The man opened the fridge and it was filled with beer, an alcohol that was way too weak for the things he was feeling at the moment. His pants felt a bit tight and he knew exactly why, proceeding to grab himself a cold water bottle and down it desperately. Isaak leaned against the counter, facing his right side toward it as he drank with his left hand.Â
Just then keys quietly jingled and the door knob turned with Dexter coming inside the apartment again. âAnd where were you off to this late?â Isaak groggily muttered as he stood there at the counter.
Dexter was dressed in a muddy green shirt and pants, with black gloves poking out his pocket which Isaak observed closely.
âI thought youâd be asleep.â Dexter replied to Isaak, âI was out on my boat.â Dexter adds as he puts his bag down.
Isaak stood up from the counter, âpresumably dumping a body into the ocean?â Isaak accused lightheartedly, a smirk perking on his face.
âNo, I donât kill often, Isaak.â Dexter responded, which of course was a lie. He killed very often, when he found a target at least.
Dexter comes over and leans on the side of the counter, looking at Isaak who looked like a mess at the moment.
âYou seem like someone who does kill often, like itâs easy for you to do so.â Isaak tells Dexter who narrows his eyes as if heâs thinking. Isaak observes him, watching as Dexter looks at him.
âItâs not easy, I havenât killed a lot of people.â Dexter once again lied and Isaak lightly chuckled. He had seen the slight flicker in Dexterâs eyes, the hint of untruthfulness lurking beneath.
Isaak walked from out of the tiny kitchen and threw the empty water bottle out, turning to Dexter again. âIâll take your words on many things, Dexter.â Isaak began to speak, âbut you looking at me and saying you havenât killed a lot of people? Iâm not an idiot.â Isaak replies to Dexter who looks at Isaak then back at the surface of the counter. âAs friends, we shouldnât lie to one another.â Isaak tells his friend and Dexter looks back at the man again.
âThen whatâs ruffled your feathers tonight?â Dexter curiously asks and Isaak seems to pause and look at Dexter for a long moment.
âThe heart.â Isaak replies ambiguously, before finally leaving back to the bedroom to close the door and try to rest a bit more. Dexter is left there alone in the kitchen, as the rare feeling of guilt fills the inside of his body.
He had lied to Isaak twice and Isaak had picked out the second lie right away, how long till he finds out the real truth?
Dexter could only imagine Isaakâs repulsed expression as he watched the pool of blood that leaked around the table. The body parts neatly aligned like a grotesque painting, one that was not a fan favorite. His eyes closed tightly as he thought about the entire situation that made his skin crawl.
âEither way you two wonât last.â Harry suddenly spoke and Dexter turned his head to see him sitting at his desk chair.
âAs long as he doesnât find out what I truly am, weâll be fine.â Dexter replies to his dead dad as he walks down the small hallway and opens the door to his son's bedroom to quickly check on him. Harrison was fast asleep, undisturbed in the small kids bed with the faint light caressing him.
Dex closed the bedroom door and left to the other apartment, tired from the day, in need of rest.Â
âEither way heâll hate you, Dexter.â Harry walked into the room, âitâs one thing to kill someone, another thing to do what you do.â Harry says as he leans against the doorframe.
âRight, thatâs why you killed yourself.â Dexter mutters as he grabs his blanket and gets comfortable on the couch to go to sleep.
Harry didnât say another word to Dexter, who shut his eyes to get some much needed sleep. Dexter was laying on his right side with the blanket pulled over him like a comforting hug.
In the bedroom, Isaak was in the exact same position. His eyes were still open, in a way afraid to fall asleep, not wanting to face another of his dreams.
Isaak did not want to be awoken by spring, as he was fully aware of the storm that followed.
