Bonus: Glisten and Boxten + Poppy from an AU I haven't expanded on in months

It's just an AU of PaR that I made for funsies. Basic premise is Glist and Box (and everybody else) have opposite personalities. It's set in the modern era but things happen differently. Glist is an assistant to a popular but narcissistic singer who treats Glist like trash and Box is a popular book-writer (which is ironic given in PaR he's horrible at writing) who rides a motorcycle for some reason (really pushing the "coolness" here. A writer and motorcycle driver is an INSANE combination)

The reason Glist stays an assistant to the rude singer is because of his dream of becoming a professional makeup artist. He needs the money and if he were to resign, that singer would probably spread a fake rumor to make sure Glist doesn't get another job

Boxten has fans but they're chill (since most are introverted book-readers). Despite him seeming like he's having a good time, Box actually feels quite lonely since he has to maintain this "untouchable and cool" persona of himself. Gradually, he gains fans who only see him for his looks and biker-side of him instead of his author half. He has a motorcycle since he needs to get around and that's it, all he wants to do is ramble to someone about the details in his books

Glist and Box meet at a convention. Box would be busy doing meet-and-greets when he suddenly sees Glist being talked down upon and ordered by his superior. After the superior leaves, Box excuses himself and goes to cheer up Glist and hold a calm, casual conversation with him, which Glisten appreciates. For the first time in a while, Glist feels relaxed. That's how far I got into the story

Glist became the person Box can ramble to and Box helped Glist be more confident and eventually gain courage to cut ties with his toxic superior

PaR! Glist's happy that he AT LEAST sees Boxten almost everyday

Making cool Boxten was so uncanny like WHY ARE YOU SO SMUG 💔 Box was originally just an author but then he wanted to get to places quickly since public transport is expensive and unreliable so he uses his father's old motorcycle he had in High School (like father like son being cool. I imagine Whirren in his HS days (in this AU) had a cool boy phase. He cringes when he looks back on it. Box's parents (and Pop's) are both great parents (they're all frenemies with one another), they simply have opposite personalities (Drizzle being extroverted and Crystal being monotoned etc. When I said "Pop got her personality from her mother" it's a comparison from PaR)

Glisten's parents still suck so in this AU Glist runs away from home and he finds the singer who takes him in. Glist feels obligated to stay, even if the person treats him as low as the ground beneath him. Of course this singer has a different persona when it comes to showing themselves in public than privately with Glist. The singer is a random guy, I don't have a name for them. Box sees how Glisten is being treated and tells Glist "You should really leave, that toon's terrible. You could be my beta reader."

Then Glist replies "I appreciate it but I can't leave. I owe it to this person. They're not as bad as my parents anyway..." Glist has really low self-esteem so Box helps him. Glist helps by showing Box he can be loved and cared for without external factors. Glist loves Box on a deeper level. In this AU, Box would notice his feelings on Glist first (since he's an author and has written characters in love before). When he sees Glist falling for him he acts nonchalant but on the inside he's squealing and kicking his feet. I'm thinking Box has the nightmares here and it's about his interest being made fun of "You'll never be a good book-writer! Your stories suck! Your book series would fail anyway, don't even try." And his nightmares would grow worse when he starts gaining fans who are only there for his biker side

Seeing Glist be interested in his books and asking more about them makes Box appreciate him. Glist likes the peace and quiet and being with Box fulfills it

been pretty inactive as of late, srry for that lol (rip the angry twisted glisten blog @thatsiticanttakeit i PROMISE i’ll get to that eventually, i really have been loving the rp but i haven’t had the motivation to sit down and draft responses😭😭)

A pretty cool idea I saw, and…

my interpretation :)

I have a new idea for an AU and it features Glisten as one of the main characters and normally I would type it out in heavy detail (like how I did with Under The Veil) but this one...THIS one includes a CROSSOVER with another game and the other two main characters are from that game (they're a duo (as of now) so when Glist joins them it becomes a trio)

The plot I came up with is Glist was in the middle of a run when suddenly he gets teleported to a different universe. He hit his head really hard so he doesn't remember how he got there (either by using his ability or accidentally coming into contact with a device (spoiler, it's the device). He landed in a brawl between multiple people and as he tries to escape he bumps into a girl (one of the MC's of the AU) and idk saves her? The girl is annoyed since "she was going to be fine anyway" but reluctantly thanked him. She says she doesn't recognize him and offers to bring him to her place to stay for the night. Glist is really skeptical but deciding it was better than wandering around aimlessly he goes with her

They go to where she lives and she introduces him to the other MC (in my HC, that's her father and she was adopted by him). This man is a lot more intimidating and at first Glist is afraid but after the girl tells him it's her father Glist relaxes a bit. The girl informs what happened earlier and the man, after glaring at Glisten, grudgingly agrees to let him stay because he helped his daughter

That's probably how chapter 1 would end. I'm thinking it'd be story-driven with every chapter showing Glisten wanting to get back to his universe while also having to adapt to the one he's in with the assistance of the other two MC's but there will also be some slice-of-life, mostly family bonding moments where Glisten spends time with the girl and her father, basically becoming the girl's brother and the father's adopted son (though he won't admit it to Glist). In this AU, Sol and Emeran exist so yipppee angst

The main conflicts would be Glist heavily missing his friends, especially Boxten. He does whatever it takes to get back to his universe, even if it means using taboo methods and getting himself hurt. Glist would also feel as if he doesn't belong and repeatedly doubts himself and thinks he doesn't deserve to be helped by others. Glist would see his friends in the people in the universe and become even more upset by the fact he's away from everything he's known

Aside from Glist, remember the man I mentioned earlier? The girl's father? He's actually a villain (he is one in-game lore so I have to incorporate it) and hides his evil plans from Glist (the girl is in on the plan and brought Glist to her home so her dad can manipulate him. Too bad it didn't work out because they genuinely grew a connection with Glist). When Glist discovers what they'd been hiding from him, he gets shocked and angry. Argument ensues and Glist runs away not wanting to see them again. Cue the angst. Of course the two of them go after him to try to reconcile but will it work? Who knows

All in all, this AU is just me writing about new characters and the found-family dynamic between the MC's. I'm really scared whether I got the two MC's from the game OOC (it'd be slightly different from the game's canon, but still) so I'm reluctant to show them

Glist has a bag containing web-like balls and he throws them at people to defend himself whenever he gets caught in a fight. (The girl and her father basically got tired of protecting him all the time so they got those for him)

Also, yes, he has music notes on his cape because he misses Boxten

I really like putting Glisten into these angsty situations apparently so yippppeeee!!! Since I'm thinking it'd be heavily in Glisten's POV (which switches to the other MC's if the plot calls for it), it'd be interesting to see his thought process about being in an unknown place and how the people who took him in are the only reason why he isn't wandering on the streets. Speaking of that, I feel like he'll owe them something which puts more pressure onto him to be "perfect" for them so they wouldn't have regretted giving him a place to stay

Glist may feel at ease whenever he is talking to the audience because it reminds him speaking in front of a crowd back in Gardenview. When they don't seem to be interested, Glisten panics a little and tries harder to entertain them. After all, if they left, he would've failed his job and possibly be kicked out

I imagine Sol and Emeran in this AU are Glisten's parents on the show and are brought to life alongside Glist. On TV they are portrayed as a happy, perfect family so Glist is pressured to be happy around them. Over time, Sol and Emeran (like Brusha) start to change and it gets to the point Glist doesn't feel safe to be himself around them. This change happens when the Gardenview is still open so in front of the kids they're perfect but behind closed doors Sol and Emeran scold him for not trying hard enough. Box's and Pop's parents might exist in this AU too and in-universe they would have moms and dads because the show had a mother's/father's day special and are seen in the background of episodes/referenced in dialogue

Glisten misses all his friends heavily, Boxten the most. His worry for them is deepened over the fact he disappeared right in the middle of the ichor operation. They're most likely searching everywhere, some thinking he twisted while others still have hope for him, while he's here doing talk-shows with an audience. In his room, he puts up drawings of his friends and whenever the girl and her father ask him about them, he explains who they are and how much he wishes to see them again

And the people Glisten particularly meet are:

Sirius and Charlie (sorry for the low quality in the second image of Charlie)

When I initially saw Sirius, he immediately reminded me of Sol. I searched more about him and found headcanons of him being Charlie's father (because he's in the same group as her) and I absolutely loved the idea. I imagine (in my AU) Sirius found Charlie abandoned as an infant/child and he (reluctantly at first) took her in. Over time he genuinely grew fond of her and saw her as a daughter

Random detail: Glist's web-like balls were inspired by Charlie since she has a spider aesthetic and inside contains (sparkly) confetti which came from Sirius (because in one of his voicelines he says "Clones, chaos, carnage, and... confetti." When they're brawling together, Glist would throw a web-ball at the target and blind them then Sirius and Charlie come in for the kill (Glist doesn't have the heart to hurt people so he distracts them with confetti instead). In this AU, Glist still has his teleporting ability so he uses it as a quick getaway or to assist Sirius or Charlie if they're in trouble

If I recall correctly, Sirius' backstory was that he owned the first attraction at Starr Park then gems drew the people away from his circus and his circus was burned down (I think??? I don't remember if it happened or not) before he was thrown out of the park. Years later, he returned to take back what he originally owned by stealing other brawlers' shadows

I picture that when Glist comes to the circus (it was replaced I guess), Sirius wanted to steal his shadow but Charlie stopped him by saying "He might be useful, if he proves his worth, let's keep him. If he fails, do whatever you want to him." (Sirius allowed Glisten to stay because he saw himself in his position of being far away from home/he reminded him a bit of Charlie). I saw somewhere Sirius had abandonment issues and guess who that reminded me of). Of course, their plan backfired when they learned more about Glist and discovered his past regarding his friends and what he was going through during the ichor operation. Also they bond with Glisten in general so there's no way they wanna manipulate him anymore

Btw Charlie reminds me of Yatta in a way with them being acrobats (I think) and Sirius looks like Sol to Glisten so whenever he sees them he repeatedly thinks of his original DW universe. Speaking of that, there are actually toons that share the same names with BS characters (Shelly, Gigi, Sprout). If Glisten were to meet them, he'd become even more homesick (get this mirror back in his universe NOW)

When Glisten finds out what Sirius and Charlie have been doing behind his back (stealing shadows so they could take over the park. Sirius uses his shadows to fight in-game so Sirius tells Glist he has them for "self-defense only"), he becomes frustrated. He dealt with a flower who was behind the operation and was mad at him, so imagine his reaction when he was unknowingly helping the villain by drawing in the audience which helps Sirius steal their shadows to build an army. Glisten would feel extremely betrayed because he saw them as family, someone he could be himself unlike his real family back at home

That's all I have for now. I don't even play Brawl Stars so Glisten seeing the BS universe has me learning about it at the same time (that's ONE way to learn lore). Honestly, I feel like the lore/worldbuilding could be interesting to explore since I think it's about a normal park becoming powerful because of gems??? Imagine the locations Glist can go to since there are multiple places with wildly different biomes. Probably the most he'll ever have in the sunlight

I hope you enjoy my ramble!!! As you can see, this is HEAVILY self-indulgent and made for fun. The thing that's stopping me from writing it is motivation and fear of writing them out of character/wrong information about the lore and places :(((

Poppy: Ball-jointed doll, made of blown glass. She’s extremely fragile, and as such, often uses a wheelchair when in public to hopefully prevent any accidents that could result from tripping, running into things, or overworking her joints. Despite this, she’s still just as energetic as any other toy.

Toodles: Toodles is technically not a traditional doll-type, seeing as she has much less articulation, but she likes to call herself as such and the other toys don’t see any harm in it. Similar to an American Girl doll, made of moulded plastic with softer joints. She’s far more pliable than the other doll-types.

Teagan: Porcelain ball-jointed doll, also quite fragile (yet not as much as Poppy). Due to an accident in her youth, much of her body is held together by Kintsugi. She’s very resilient to sudden temperature changes, though—something developed over years of handling both freezing cold and boiling hot drinks.

Glisten: Despite insisting that he’s a regular ball-jointed doll, Glisten is a ████████ I am like any other ball-jointed doll type, made of hand-carved resin with a perfectly painted golden sheen. I also have far looser joints than the rest of my friends, perfect for mastering my routines without the need for stretches! I did mention that I do ballet, yes? You should come see one of my performances sometime!

Flutter: Despite not having many points of articulation, Flutter is a ball-jointed doll all the same—simply having hinges for her wings rather than the traditional joints. She’s incredibly lightweight, made of thin plastic and soft, stretchy cording to make it easier for her to fly without tiring herself out.

i really enjoy universes/media where everything seems so perfect, but something’s off and only one character can see it.

I like a lot of the concepts Dandy’s World has to offer (specifically the idea of “perfect” characters in an imperfect world), but I think there’s also potential to be had in plucking the characters out of their little dollhouse and throwing them into a different world that’s both perfectly catered to them and falling apart at the seams.

And who better to pluck at those seams than the one character who’s only perfect because he has to be?
