Thomas Heatherwick // “Most people have had ideas. And they go, ‘Oh, I should have done something about it.’ I admire the achievement of making something happen. Trying to make an object that is (1) something that you feel proud of and (2) that can be made at all and (3) that can be made for a price that can be not only manufactured but (4) that somebody would agree to distribute and someone else agree to retail and then that somebody might actually sell any – I take my hat off to anybody who manages to get an idea from their head into people’s lives.” . . . . . #thomasheatherwick #architecture_masters #architalk #architheory #artquotes #instaarch #mentors #masters #architecture#archstudent #architectural #archlife#architecturestudio #businessofarchitecture #architecturestudent#architectureschool #architect#architects #archdaily #learnfromthemasters #student#arch #architechture #architettura#architectures
Sou Fujimoto // “For me, drawing is an endless process of trial-and-error to give form to the vague architectural inspirations that fill my brain. You could say that drawing is like having a dialogue with oneself. Earlier in my career, when I thought that there was no outlet, I still believed that the ideas behind my drawings would lead to something in the future, so I continued with my exploration. Some of them did become the basis for work later on in my career, but I didn’t know that at the time, of course. And I carried on sketching regardless.“ . . . . . #architecturalwisdom #architecture_masters #artspeaks #architalk #architheory #artquotes #instaarch #mentors #masters #architecture#archstudent #architectural #archlife#architecturestudio #businessofarchitecture #architecturestudent#architect#architects #archdaily #learnfromthemasters #student#arch #architechture #architettura#architectures #next_top_architects #nextarch #archiwisdom #inspirationalquotes #masterclass
Jef Koons //« When you really focus on your interests...You get connected to a universal vocabulary, to metaphysics. You experience it, and time and space just bends. It really just comes from trusting yourself and following your interests, it always connects you. » . . . . . architecture_masters #building#instaarch #mentors #masters #architecture #archstudent #architectural #archlife#architecturestudent#architectureschool #architect#architects #archdaily #learnfromthemasters #student#arch #artmasters #contemporaryartist #architechture #architettura#architectures #next_top_architects #nextarch #archiwisdom #inspirationalquotes #masterclass #learnfromthebest
Ambiguity
“We make cages out of our structures, we want our buildings to have frame works but out of a Cartesian compulsion, we compartmentalize space into strict horizontals and verticals. There is a dominant immobility in such structure, no sense of movement and imagination becomes trapped in such regime. Our environment is imperfect, everything around us is complex and irregular. Juxtaposition becomes rhythm, where hybrid entities are understood as ‘nature’ and not odd and freaky. Why should architecture be any different? ”
Cecile Balmond

“I know; it was like having a grant, I slept on a plywood shelf over the entrance, and no one knew I lived there. And I went to YMCA everyday to work out and take a shower - There no hot water in my loft. I didn’t have a single employee for fifteen years, nor did I have a single client; I supported myself by teaching. That lasted untill 1993, when I won the competition for Kiasma museum in Helsinki. That was just twelve years ago. And you say there is no drama!”
Frank Ghery, on finding your own voice.
Relying on insight
"Such a space is not to be found where priority is placed on function. The architect must rely on insight instead. Moreover purity of space and form conducive to meditation must be based on a natural distillation of the traditional context of land, a formal sensibility filled with the architect’s fervent prayer and freedom of ideas."
Itami Jun, “The Insight of the Architect”
The power of bricks
"We like the inherent properties of brick and the scale of it. A brick can be held in the hand, yet used to create buildings of great size. The making of bricks has a direct relationship to what the Ancient Greeks considered the constituent elements of all things: air, fire, water, earth. Bricks are also infinitely variable: their character depends on their components, the way they are laid, choice of mortar, size of joints. And, as it is built manually, a brick wall bears the imprint of the people that have built it.”

Zaha Hadid on setting high standards
” Diplomacy! Not my best talent! I don’t play up to people. I remember Rem Koolhaas when they asked me to join OMA, and I said, “Only as a partner.” I mean, honestly! I had just finished school. And they said, “As long as you are an obedient partner.” I said, “No, I am not going to be an obedient partner.” That was the end of my partnership!”

Mies Van Der Rohe - Architecture as language
If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well. If you can't be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be be the best little shrub on the side of the hill. Be a bush if you can't be a tree. If you can't be a highway, just be a trail. If you can't be a sun, be a star. For it isn't by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
And when you discover what you will be in your life, set out to do it as if God Almighty called you at this particular moment in history to do it. don't just set out to do a good job. Set out to do such a good job that the living, the dead or the unborn couldn't do it any better.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“The spiritual life, to which art belongs and of which she is one of the mightiest elements, is a complicated but definite and easily definable movement forwards and upwards. This movement is the movement of experience. It may take different forms, but it holds at bottom to the same inner thought and purpose.“
Wassily Kandinsky
“Artist should have confidence in the fact that, Making a drawing on a piece of paper is chaging the world”
Olafur Eliasson
