“Emily Wilson’s critique was mean” good. We need harsher critiques, we need to be more critical of what art we consume especially if it’s from Hollywood. I’m tired of being nice we need to go apeshit.
my intellect is wasted on petty yet still important internet discourse. i need to write articles i need to write things about my OCs PLEAAASEEEE HELP MEEE
"it isn't physically hurting anyone, but cultural and societal harm are still harm." can we start making these bangers about my ocs and not "me comparing how i deal with finding out a creator is problematic vs how others do it Really Really Badly". can i at least make these bangers without feeling guilty about posting them in full at least.

amina pre-lab is like that one girl who you keep thinking is a little gay but is surprisingly heterosexual. amina post-lab is like right on the CUSP of realizing she's definitely a lesbian she just needs a push
like I mean this very seriously as writing advice. the character should experience events and make decisions that make them different at the end of the story. they should be changed. they do not have to be improved.
they can get worse. they can make decisions of an increasingly terrible nature. they can stop taking risks on kindness. they can discover how much they can get away with. they can find religion, or abandon it, with negative effects on their moral creed. the character has to develop. the character does not have to grow.
I didn’t (fully) make a comic but I did write a “small” blurb 👀 \/
———— **
I’m not a writer so it may be ass, but oops oh well :p
This is from POV of Eidan and Ben, who have visited Enzo’s shop maybe 3 or so times? They don’t know his name, but his shop, Bits ‘n Bobbers, has kinda been interesting to wander a few times.
———— **
As they both looked around, splitting up to become caught up in whatever their eyes drifted to, Eidan didn’t realize he landed himself next to the only other customer in the building. She smiled casually at him, but didn’t back away. Instead, she took it as a moment for small talk.
“Wild place, right?”
Eidan snickered, then sighed in agreement. “Yeah,” he pointed over his shoulder to Ben, “we both sometimes come here just to see what we can find.”
“Ah, you two come here a lot? That’s fun!” That smile somehow grew wider, yet it didn’t feel any more genuine. “It’s crazy how this kind of thing can feel so authentic!”
Um…? “Haha, yeah”. No idea what that means.
“I never expected a place run by a…” she glanced over towards the register, then back to Eidan. “….well,” she chuckled, “I didn’t expect an shop run by one to be so functional.”
Oh.
That’s why her smile’s off. Got it.
Eidan awkwardly laughed and smiled, then forced his eyes to catch sight of something else. He moved away from her and started to dig through drawers labeled “coins (FREE)”. They were all corroded from the sea, some of the dates barely visible, but some with cool designs he’d never noticed before on a coin. His hands were gonna smell like pennies after this…
The lady, sifting through a small pile of plush goods, held in her other hand a small woven box with a pull drawer, good for maybe jewelry or some loose stuff around the house. She shuffled through the items, though it seemed she was just passing time, deciding if she was ready for the counter interaction.
Eidan slowly walked towards Ben, who was enamored by a side table covered in small wooden animals, all seemingly hand carved. He nudged him on the side.
Ben gave him a glance, not moving his face.
“Notice that lady?” Hard not to when she’s the only other one in there with them. Eidan didn’t need to say much, as Ben was now locked onto her as well.
She was headed to the counter, that box in hand, her smile barely still plastered on her face. It stretched and wrinkled her cheeks as she set it on the counter, peeking over the edge.
“Hello?” She hollered, almost demandingly. In her defense, the only employee seemed to be in the back.
An excited yet frantic voice came from the other room. “One moment!”
The door swung open and giant eyes met the gaze of the woman before looking down at her box on the counter, waiting to be checked out. “Hi!” He smiled, little flaps on his mouth raising as his cheeks bubbled up. As he left the doorway, it was admittedly jarring to see more and more of him come out, a tail of sorts dragging from the back room. Little fins seemed to help push him along, walking and slapping along like a small dog.
He grabbed the box and positioned himself behind the counter, aligned with the woman. He was shorter than her at the height he sat at.
Eidan turned his head back to Ben, who had now grabbed a little wooden octopus. “You getting that?” He smirked, pointing to his clutched fist holding it almost dearly.
“Yeah.” Ben didn’t change his face, but his defiant answer said he was enamored by the thing. Eidan snickered, then walked towards the couch next to them, taking a moment to relax. Ben joined him a moment later, staring towards the counter.
The air over there was thick. The woman was forcefully looking away from the cashier, glancing around her vicinity for anything but him.
Eidan stared at the scene as well, selfishly wanting to see something happen. The lady was brewing with ideas, and he doubted that, with her previous comment, she was going to just bottle it up. She was clearly having a hard time already.
“Do you want this wrapped up or in a bag?” The cashier held the box delicately in his hands, his eyes met with the woman’s face. She didn’t reciprocate the gaze, instead waving him off coldly. “No, thanks.”
“Okay!” He kept a chipper attitude. But the tone was a little dominant, which clearly irked him a little. A small twinge came to his ears, which seemed to be massive fins like you’d see on the side of a fish. From the few times Eidan and Ben had been here before, they seemed to react like cat ears, spanning wider when scared or nervous. They raised slightly in response as he set the box back on the counter, fiddling under the counter with what could be assumed was a register or something.
“What are you doing?” The woman demanded. Eidan couldn’t see her face, but from the tone, she sounded concerned.
“Huh?” The cashier’s posture straightened and his fins flared more, getting nervous.
“That! Can you not do that?!” She sounded disgusted, her shoulders tensing and her feet backing her away from the counter.
“What? I’m sorry, what- what am I doing?” He was scared, determined to figure out the source of her discomfort as she shuffled herself further from the counter, her hands slowly reaching down to her purse. Her hand laid over its zipped pouch, grabbing it ever so slightly.
“The thing with your…” Her open hand gestured towards the sides of her face, “…things. It’s making me nervous.”
He, too, felt around his face, first feeling the little red slits lining his cheeks. Then, curling along the shape of his jaw, he felt his ears which were now flared wide. His pupils narrowed as he realized he was scaring her.
“Oh- I-I’m so sorry, I can’t control that, I’m- I’m sorry-“
“Well, can you not do that?” Her tone became insistent. Her head ducked a little as she tried to make her ground.
“I-“ He sputtered. His lips quavered a little, his eyes darting around trying to think of a solution. “Uh-“ He landed on just holding his fins, pressing them down so that they went back to a semi-normal drooped position. He let out a small murmur, then looked at the woman again, hoping for some sort of acceptance of his solution.
“Thank you,” she practically hissed. She passed him two twenty dollar bills, told him to keep the change, then took her box and left.
Her eyes met with Eidan and Ben, so she subtly shook her head and rolled her eyes, as though to say “Not that hard, is it,” jabbing at the cashier one last time.
They watched her car sputter out exhaust, then pull away before walking to the register to buy their own things.
Eidan slipped the cashier a 20.
“Huh?” His ears flared again, this time in surprise, but he quickly grabbed at them to lower them.
“Stop.” Eidan narrowed his eyes. “Don’t do that.”
The cashier’s pupils grew and he slowly let go of his fins. “Sorry…” His hand then landed on the 20 and scooted it back. “Please- are you buying something? I can’t take this.”
“He is,” he gestured his thumb over to Ben, “but take it anyways. Please.”
“No- I- It’s okay, seriously!” He laughed. “I’m used to it, seriously.”
“Well, you shouldn’t be.” Eidan scowled. The cashier kept quiet.
Ben put his little octopus onto the counter, and the cashier took a moment before pulling out a small journal.
He mumbled to himself vaguely about prices and categories, flipping pages, before announcing “that’ll be.. 5 bucks? If that’s okay”.
Bullshit.
“I thought it was 10?” Eidan stubbornly inquired. A sign over by where Ben originally grabbed it said so, anyways.
“Please, 5 bucks. You guys are super nice.”
Eidan once again shoved his twenty over the counter.
“Stop!! Seriously!!” The cashier now fought his hand, shoving it back.
They bickered for a moment, nice guy versus nice guy. Ben then finally put down his own ten dollars, paying the real price. His action brought silence to the other two.
The cashier stood still, then grabbed the ten, sliding it to his side. “…Thank you. Do you want a bag? Or wrapped up?”
Ben held up his hand, giving him a no.
“Alright!” He smiled softly, worry still shifting in his eyes. “Then you guys are set! Thank you!”
Ben took his sculpture off of the counter, cusping it in his hands. He nodded.
He poked Eidan, who held his rejected 20. Eidan stared at him, confused, before Ben asked obnoxiously “Oh. And what are those,” pointing to the rack of fishing lures that stood behind the counter.
The cashier turned around to look, and Ben wrestled the 20 from Eidan’s hand before throwing it behind the cashier, over the counter and onto the ground. It clattered without a sound.
“Oh! Those are fishing lures! A lot of them are old and abandoned in the water, but some are new!” He genuinely smiled, then turned back to them.
“Cool, noted.” Ben gave a thumbs up, and Eidan stood dumbfounded. He tried not to comment, but Ben would get an earful in the car. Nonetheless, the cashier now had the 20.
“i have to listen to my body’s needs” secret boss fight written by person who has chronic and disabling wrist pain which has fundamentally changed his relationship to his hobbies and his job <- i care it as someone who has also had chronic pain in my wrist/hand for 5 years
another thing i tend to think about with this. i also just think in chapter 5 there's a theme of care and dependency. the flowers have extreme guilt over being taken care of by asgore. flowery conceptualizes himself as weak and useless. in the dark world, his fantasy, he tries to return the care given to him to asgore to "make up for" asgore taking care of him when he should've died decades ago. it's an extreme example, but i also resonate with his feeling.
when your body or mind puts you in a situation where your reliance on other people becomes really explicit, you're trained by the world to see that as shameful or to see yourself as deficient. your efforts to ignore your needs just to avoid "being a burden," will leave you worse off. you punish yourself because of deeply internalized ableism.
regardless, even by virtue of being a living thing on this planet, you are already designed to need others. you have to listen to your body's needs even against a society that teaches you you shouldn't. you have to be okay with the fact that you have needs. sometimes your needs are different or are greater than the person next to you, and all you can do is listen to your body and turn to others when you need them. you're still a person when you need people.
when toby says this:
it's interesting to me how much he uses the language of deltarune to express this feeling. your hopes and dreams slipping away, and bitterness growing is literally the explanation we get for shadow crystals (and so wept the fallen star, making rivers with its tears. then, slowly, from the bitter water, something grew. it looked like glass). this is also the crushing feeling when you lose a sense of control when you're in pain, when you can't do things the way you want, the way you used to. but when you find yourself still able to fly, you do so because you've adapted. you've listened to your body. you've learned that listening to your body means changing the pace, letting yourself be cared for, letting yourself be helped.
as far as toby's said it, having to expand his team has made deltarune a better game. chapter 5 is so expansive because so many people helped to make it. Pink's fight has sprite work from guest artists, music with Camellia, bullets programmed by Toby's team. She is, to me, a love letter to Deltarune's development process as a whole and how it has shaped Toby, and a reflection of the kinds of thoughts Toby has shared with us about developing Deltarune alongside pain. I also think it's a beautiful follow-up to Gerson's themes of storytelling and authorship (letting go of "perfection" + accepting the contributions of others = both about rescinding control and embracing perseverance). Pink is also so much more than this, but I've been thinking about this a lot.

i wish people in fandom spaces wouldn't couch the (alleged) crimes of creators in such vague terms. "Gaiman is controversial right now" NO, Gaiman has been accused of rape by several women. "DC probably won't reprint a lot of 90s green lantern because Gerard Jones is problematic." NO, Gerard Jones was convicted of possession of child pornography. "controversial" and "problematic" do not accurately convey what is going on remotely and if anything play down what these people have done.
they didnt listen, by the way. because of course they didnt. theyre hiding domo ai from the member list and forcing them into private and public servers. use

to get rid of it.
if you're interested in the Colorful support post i made regarding this, its under the cut. i'm livid.
I think we should. use our mutuals inboxes like gacha games and roll to get rare OC pulls . and skins. I'm like "oh shittt the Easter Event is coming up, I need to pull for the new skins" so I go into someone's inbox and send them. I dunno. a picture of a quarter. and they respond with a drawing of a random OC of theirs in a bunny onesie

You gotta be really publicly passionate about things if you want your friends to text you. Bc people will forget to text you because they’re human. But if you’re really openly the friend who loves identifying ants your friends will think of you when they see ants. And they’ll text you “what ant is this [blurry photo]”. And then they’ll ask you how you’ve been and we should get coffee sometime. But if they don’t know what you love they’ll never know what you like
And then when the ant convention is in town they’ll be like dude… we should go to the ant convention. But they would never think to go if they didn’t know u loved ants
sometimes 'fandom safe space, no discourse etc' means a place is chill. other times it means 'if you get annoyed or upset or complain about racism etc in fandom then you are breaking the rule by bringing something ControversialTM into our safe space and we want to keep real world issues away from our fun zone'. and it does make me laugh bcs do u really think poc can choose to leave 'real world issues' at the door of your 'discourse free' space. as if they're able to turn off the big 'noticing racism' switch in their minds (which you gladly do) just so white ppl can write yaoi without feeling guilty. babes you might as well put a big asterisk after safe space that says *for white people. since that's what you mean
