Merle has fucked up morals, but he has morals, the Governor doesn't have any morals. in a way that reminds me of how abysmal Merle's introduction was, yet it was Shane that ended up being the big bad of the group

honestly i lowkey think his loss of respect started as soon as the Governor said he'd "take care" of things with Maggie. Merle may be a big mouthed trouble maker, but he's not stupid. he knew exactly what shit was gonna happen as soon as the Governor showed any interest in being in Maggie's presence
