A group of students in Inuvik, N.W.T., is planning a pride week for their school, as well as a pride parade for the whole community ā all for the first time.
āWe donāt believe in baby steps, apparently,ā said Jill Nugent, a teacher at East Three Secondary School who oversees the Aurora Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club.
The parade will be held on April 21 and will be the GSAās first major event. The only other event the group has held was a bake sale.
āOur objective is to get a 100 youth out to this event,ā Nugent said.

For people that donāt know, Inuvik is a town of about 3,000 people in the Northwest Territories in Northern Canada. It is above the Arctic Circle, and is the 7th most northern town in Canada (most of those other 6 towns have less than 1000 people).Ā
Also the majority of people in Inuvik are indigenous (Inuit, First Nations and Metis).
