Funeral Parlor in Murtas by Alejandro Munoz Miranda
The midday sun forms an eclipse as continuous ring drawn together by direct and projected light, where land (material light projected onto the curved wall) and sky (immaterial direct light / clarity) engage in that particular magic moment to let out the soul in its ascent to heaven by the time window of the eclipse generated daily.

Parametric Architecture curated by Barrios Escudero
We are attracted to parametric design as a resource with which it is possible to achieve efficiency and fidelity between the design concept and result of a project. Through geometric and algorithmic relations, it also forms a bridge between traditional architectural production and new technological possibilities.

House for P by LOW Architecten
"The roof structure is tangible everywhere in the house, there are no straight lines when you look at the ceiling. The result is an extraordinary spatial perception when you enter the living area."
Bring Back the Brick curated by Randwick and Associates
"Brick is one of the longest lasting and oldest building materials. However, in recent years, brick has been pushed aside in the construction process, mainly for technological reasons. Construction of a brick wall takes time, but perhaps more importantly we have developed a tendency to cover, and not to expose, structural elements of the building. Brick has become an expensive material. For that reason it is not often that we get a chance to use masonry in our design, but when we do, we find it fascinating how this simple choice of construction technique somehow slows the whole design process and shifts focus to the construction site."

Casa Lude by Grupo Arananea  creates a unique, continuous and rich space on different levels with various heights and directions; a space that Lude fills with music. This space extends to the roof as a natural continuation of the interior life. It is a complex space full of light where a lot of secrets are hidden.
Elements of Architecture: The Roof
In line with the Venice Biennale entitled Fundamentals curated by Rem Koolhaas, Archello will publish a series of Collections about the fundamental elements that make up architecture. The third element in the series is the roof.
The roof gives architecture its most primal function; that of giving shelter. Although in modernist design it is exactly that function that so often loses importance from the higher goal of aesthetic, leading to famously leaky designs like Mies van der Rohe’s Crown Hall and Rem Koolhaas’ Kunsthal. In contemporary design the roof still overwhelmingly an aesthetic element, sometimes as the defining element in the design and most often disappearing in the overall shape.
Most buildings in the collection show an expressive use of the roof like the Kilden performing arts center, Glasgow riverside museum and Rotterdam station. Some twist along with the building like the China wood sculpture museum and Xintiandi installation. Stacking a function on top in the case of Bike Pavilion and Marina Bay creates optimal usage of the roof. Recently no design seems to be possible without the usage of a green roof like that of earlier examples Acros Kukuoka and the Academy of Science.
