eri had not expected to be told a story, especially about a group of superheroes. she has yet to master the full ability to engage yet her eyes expressed the most interest. red orbs lowered towards her popsicle that was grasped between her fingers, enjoying the cold treat before looking back at the older girl intently. she has never heard of the phoenix ranger featherman but perhaps rather curious about other heroes outside of her own world. 

she jumps just a little, surprised by the girl’s enthusiasm to the point where she would briefly grab a hold of her gently. heroes must have come from all sorts of backgrounds, or appear in many different forms. do they too inherit heroic abilities? are they all born with them? 

“m-me? i… don’t think i’m anything special, the pink argus is probably much more extraordinary than me.”

though she must have caused them so much trouble throughout that time, eri still thought about deku and mirio to this day. they did what they had done in order to see her smile, to see her happy. thinking about it, perhaps it felt nice yet eri still could not shake off her insecurity. eri found herself looking down, pondering a response.

“yeah… there are two great heroes. they– both fought for their lives. even though it must have been so troubling.” 

yukari clutches her own chest gently at the younger girls’ word, she speaks formally and far beyond her years for such a little girl, it hurts the brunette to see and something she can relate to - being forced to grow up before your ready.

  so she grasps eri’s hands between her own and offers a triumphant smile.

   “ don’t say that eri! you know i have, like, the best intuition around and my eyes tell me that .... “ one of her hands releases the other girl’s and she pokes a gentle finger into her chest where her heart lies “ you’re gonna do some really amazing things, here or back home! i can sense it you know? pink argus would be so proud - - and your heroes back home too! “ 

   and amidst all of yukari’s motivational speech .. she manages to drop her popsicle straight onto the grass, pigeons now calling claim to it -

    “ no that was the last strawberry one!!! “ even amongst her attempts at adulting, her teenage side still shines through every now and then.

    but as easily as she looks defeated, her mood perks up like a rollercoaster reaching its peak. “ say, when one door closes another opens ... how about we both have a treat day and i grab us something else! to mend my broken heart ... and you can tell me about your home? maybe we’ll even bump into someone you recognise! “

ERI PLEASE DONT MAKE HER CRY THIS MASCARA IS THE CHEAPEST ONE THEY HAD AND IT ISNT WATERPROOF!!!

her small hands wipe yukari’s tears away 

yukari stands up off the bench they were both perched on, popsicle in one hand as she attempts to replicate the group in all their glory.

   “ phoenix ranger featherman r !!! “ that exclamation caused a few pigeons to fly away and for the brunette to almost drop her popsicle in the heat of the moment - but they were such cool heroes and this younger girl seemed genuinely interested, finally! someone with good taste.

    “ i think i’m a bit biased to pink argus but she’s just so cool you know?! she may almost be as cool as you eri .... though that’s touuugh competition. “ and  the archer find herself sitting back down next to the smaller girl, smile remaining as she looks down onto her.

   “ have anyone back home you see as a hero? i’d love to hear about them! “

“Are you interested in any book of our selection? Since the season calls for it, we are having a high influx of horror stories!” I don’t enjoy these titles myself so I want our customers to take them away from me!!! I seem calm but deep down I’m crying for help! 

   she ushers katarina a little closer to herself with a hand gesture and ‘psst’, it’s yukari’s way of attempting to be a bit more aloof and lowkey about her current dilemma and the exact reason she finds herself in this bookstore.

    “ do you uhm ... “ hands fiddle amongst each other and the usual bubbly archer appears a little more timid, this really was not her forte.

her mind flashes back to a simpler time, where she could target all her hatred to the world around her; the kirijo group, the dark hour, even her own mother. 

   “ well, not so much anymore but … i was really angry for a long time, way too angry than a teenage girl should be. i guess i was just so frustrated with the world? i mean … we put so much into it and for it to come around and tell us it was all worthless?! well, screw that. “

a sigh escapes, she was going to get some serious frown-lines here.

  “ ah well, it sounds kind of cheesy but - “ yukari isn’t one to usually reflect on terms such as family, it was one that had always left a bitter taste in her mouth in the past - 

“ i have a group of friends back home that are pretty much my family! i love them a lot, probably. “ but nowadays, things were different and Yukari had people who genuinely cared for her - and vice versa.

“Holma?”

   “ you know? like ... “

deep breath.

Thick blood oozed out of several head wounds, crimson rivulets soaking into peroxide blond tendrils. Blows to the cranium always gushed more profusely than other injuries, he noticed, after years of unfortunate experience. With each step Shizuo too, his vision blurred, dizzy spells casting over him until they became so intense they forced the MONSTER to wilt onto a nearby curb. Pain throbbing from the neck up.

It’ll pass soon enough.

    this certainly wasn’t what she was expecting on her late-night trip to the convenience store. her ice cream and the latest issue of ‘girls goss’ would have to wait it seemed.

    “ woah ... woah! you shouldn’t be standing up right now?! “

having been one of the designated healers of her team back home, yukari seemingly acts on instinct - mind becoming clearer as she summons her persona, the faint image of io appearing behind her.

  “ try and keep this a secret okay? “

the healing spell is cast over the much taller male and yukari breathes a sigh of relief, watching it heal his wounds as she sets down next to him. the brunette removes her sweater and begins to clean the blood off of him with it.
