Lunging forward, Ellith could smell the scent of the Duergar’s blood on his skin, mingling with the remaining dust and ashes. The Drow made no move either to reject them or welcome them, but the lustful spark in his eyes was more than enough. Ellith straddled his lap.

ty for the tag @fireflyeyes! I've covered the origins of her title a few times, but her name itself not so much. I did a small delve into Tavrin's etymology a while back [here] but I'm excited to expand on it!

Tavrin

Birth-Given Name

Tavrin's birth-given name is lost to memory. Not due to amnesia, but to time. She hasn't used nor heard it since she was about 11 years old. At 109, even before her memory loss, she does not remember the name she was born into.

Created from Bhaal's dead flesh and swapped out for a drow newborn in the slums of Menzoberranzan in a household that only pretended to worship Llolth for self-preservation. Tavrin's "family" didn't care for her much at all, particularly because they always knew something was off. Though her home life was not offensively toxic or abusive, she was neglected more than just her family not having the proper means to care for her.

That's a whole backstory thing [further details here]. But in true drow fashion, the name they'd given that child did not have much thought behind it. Especially since she was a third child. Her name was randomly selected, just as her siblings' were.

I have never actually decided on what that name was, since it's inconsequential. But for funsies, I will now (and because @faeriiefire inspired me to <3). I put all the prefixes and suffixes from the [drow naming table] into a randomizer, hit random, and for authenticity took my first combo no matter what it was lol. And so, Tavrin's birth-given name was:

Iraeylene Kilzynge

Meanings:

Irae- | arcane, mystic, wizard (LOLOLOL)

-ylene | handmaiden, squire, maiden, youth (*snorts*)

Kil- | people of

-zynge | the ruins

(i did very mild manipulation of the last name since her parents didn't choose that and it didn't make sense for their last name to imply they were noble or Llolthsworn, since they were neither)

And of course, here is her name written in drowic <3

Bhaal-Given Name

After murdering her family with the first strike of the Urge, she Iraeylene hears the voice of Sceleritas Fel for the first time. Though he does not tell her of her true heritage until she is in her 30s, he does tell her she is born for a greater purpose, and that she has a true name from her true father: Tavrin. No surname.

And while this isn't a real name with real, clear etymology, I did some delving into similar pieces to come up with what it means. It actually lined up surprisingly well considering I did this well after the fact lol.

There's no clear origin or single meaning for the full name or its components. The origins go everywhere from Kurdish to Old Norse and mean anything from a Mountain Flower to Leader.

I think my favorite tidbits I found were that "Tav" can mean something like "mark/sign" in Hebrew or "magic/witchcraft" in Old Norse.

Gustav, which is the name of the CEO's dog, is what "Tav" was derived from. Gustav means "Staff of the Gods".

Meanwhile the suffix "-rin" in old English/Celtic is used as an affectionate diminutive, like a smaller/beloved element of something greater.

Which is all pretty Bhaalspawn coded, if you ask me.

Given that the etymology is complicated and Faerun uses entirely different languages anyway, I know there's lots of room for interpretation or forgoing it altogether, but I kinda like the implication I found. So, I'm going to say that in my interpretation, her name means:

Tavrin - Marked One; Divine Descendent

What it means to me?

In my first run ever, as she was my first Tav, I had named her Nasrin just cos I liked the name. It wasn't til after the fact that I realized "Tav" was the default name and not a randomly generated one like in WoW lol. So when I remade her into a Dark Urge, I combined the names into Tavrin. And I just really like the name <3

What’s an idea, dynamic, or trope in your current work that feels naughty or self-indulgent? (Spicy answers 100% encouraged.)

The most self-indulgent thing about Ellie’s story is that it’s a happy ending (stop it 🤭 you know what I mean). Naughty/Spicy? Not much. It has its sex scenes, which I haven’t even got to yet, but overall I went in wanting to look at her story from an emotional standpoint (I know, what a fucking nerd). Oh! I take that back…I did write this WIP for funsies once. I should really try to follow up with that. 🤔

Is your OC a virgin, blushing maiden, or sexual fiend? or aro/ace? or something in between?

Ellie isn’t virginal, and she has filled her needs just fine pre-tadpole, but I kept her rather tame mostly because of how closed-off she is. She sleeps with Rugan when he’s in town, but she forces the disconnect because she doesn’t know how to give or take romantic (or, well, any) affection. It’s not until she’s forced into the tadpole family does she realize what’s missing. And I think she becomes a bit more adventurous with Gale since the trust is there, though how much? That has yet to be determined.

What’s your OC’s “I shouldn’t be turned on by this” trigger?

Angry Gale, or at the very least Frustrated Gale. She’ll call him out on his bullshit every time…even if it’s just to see the slight tick in his jaw. Every hill’s a hill to die on when it comes to getting under his skin.

Probably anything involving ropes/being tied up? I don’t know, I kind of picture her panicking in a situation like that where she relinquishes control. Though, I have considered a mage hand idea once or twice, but I feel like that’s not quite the same?

Debauched? I mean, nothing really insane. The Levitation Sex post (click the link; I’m scared to post it twice lol) was the craziest I’ve posted, I think? I did make a threesome with Gale and Astarion once for a irl friend, lol, and only one other person here has ever seen it 😂 we don’t talk about the threesome (unless you ask nicely I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️)

What is the wildest NSFW smut you have ever thought up? Did you write it?

Wildest? I’m pretty vanilla compared to things I’ve seen and read before LOL The magic sex was pretty up there, honestly. And actually, that’s all Aoife, too. 😂 They’re magic sex is definitely something I want to work in for her eventually 😏

Well, the more I was thinking about it, the more I realised how my fav characters influenced me for Ellith, who happens to be a mix between three series characters that you wouldn't imagine cohabitating (or maybe you can, idk.)

(Of course there are also other influences, but those three ones are quite obvious now that I think about it).

I mean, you tell me, but I believe Ellith is a combination of those three.

Vain, arrogant, cynical, a creeping alcoholic difficult to love, in complete denial and with a succession of terrible life choices?

Also, a selfish bastard who tries to hide their existential dread through substance abuse and meaningless sex and parties?

Do I really need to explain it?

Sam Jones was such an inspiration when I was growing up and she's still glorious af and freaking powerful. I love that energy and I think it appears in El (or so I hope).

Ellith as Crowley (Good Omens)

It's not just the hair and the eyes or the gait; it's also the cynicism, the recklessness, the mischievous bastard who's kind of a good guy underneath it all.

Also, they both complain a lot and are quick to anger. And they're both pretty cool and stylish. If Ellith was a devil, they'd be a Crowley.

Alright, it probably sucks but my skills (and patience) for graphic design are little or non-existent at all, and most of my recent screentime has been devoted to editing (which is currently kicking my booty spectacularly, but I will never give up, because I have far too many ideas cooking 😤).

Yeah, this could have been much better, I KNOW!

But do I really want to increase my daily amount of screentime to improve? Absolutely not. It's summer and I deserve all the rest I can get. I'll make peace with it, I suppose :3

I went with post-canon Tavrin since she changes so much from original to current xD and I needed some sort of baseline haha
