polar na’vi ideas

- shorter, rounder ears (allen’s rules)

- bergmann’s rules: polar na’vi would be shorter and heavier set than equatorial na’vi. I would say your average polar na’vi would likely be around 7 ft tall.

- nothing on pandora is confirmed to have fur other than na’vi as far as I know, so i wonder if they would possibly adapt to have fur… this would take MILLIONS of years tho, so arctic na’vi could possibly be a completely different species, incapable of interbreeding with equatorial na’vi. someone please correct me if im wrong cuz im too lazy to look at the wiki rn*

- **+EDIT thank u ppl who commented abt fur cuz im a lazy bastard 😄 I still think it would be a bit difficult to explain how arctic na’vi could have fur, unless it’s 100% confirmed that equatorial na’vi have some kind of “peach fuzz” at least. i considered the idea that perhaps it would be a retained symplesiomorphic trait from the shared ancestor with prolemuris, but it would be a bit difficult for polar na’vi to still be the same species as equatorial na’vi with any significant amount of fur adaptation beyond a thin, sparse layer. even though our human equivalent could be considered homo sapiens vs homo neanderthalensis, we still weren’t that much different since we could interbreed. In this case, again, I wonder how genetically detached polar na’vi would be from equatorial populations in the case that they were to develop fur…

- if not fur, polar na’vi possibly could’ve adapted a reinforced blubber-type tissue in replacement of fat to maintain heat

- in humans, melanin production is primarily affected by sun exposure and vitamin D intake- that is why scandinavians are pale and the inuit are darker skinned. The inuit have ample vitamin D in their diets, so they retained their darker pigmentation.

- so, I say that an arctic na’vi would be much more pigmented for reasons like warmth attraction and sun protection. Their hair would also be dark for this same reason.

- I think their eyes would be smaller

- cold, arid climates typically call for smaller/thinner that warm up and humidify air, so I think their noses would be smaller on average

i can see native jake in my minds eye… cuz it’s like, he couldn’t save his people, his brother. maybe he comes from a tribe where the language has been lost to time, and ancestral lands are no longer due to historic displacement and modern development. he has seen what colonization does and how that trauma is passed down through generations. the layers it could’ve added…
