A Guardian discovering their charge in a history book, seeing an artifact that’s been lost for centuries and knowing they can (and likely will) die before finding it. Bonus points if it’s a cursed artifact!

Consider all the interpersonal conflict: Non-Guardians, who have no concept of just how strong the urge to find one’s charge is, not understanding why their loved one would want to leave everything behind for near-certain death. Fellow Guardians wrestling with guilt over encouraging their clanmate to pursue such a hopeless future.

And the Guardian in question themself, having undertaken such a huge journey in and of itself just on their Search, and this is where it led them. Not that leaving everything and everyone behind in the first place is fun for any Guardian, but for this? Yeesh.

How to outsiders know when they’ve crossed you clan’s border? Marks painted or carved into trees or rocks? Glowing runes marking the edge? On account of the recent move, the clan doesn’t have much of a border right now. Basically, you see that pile of seemingly unrelated nerds sleeping in he middle of nowhere? That’s them. Even prior to the move they didn’t have much of a set territory, they just had this one base lair hidden in the tangled land. The surrounding area was unintentionally marked just by virtue of frequent use.

How do you identify dragons from your clan? Is there a mark or uniform? Especially for the kingdoms/empires out there. There needs to be a way to quickly recognize an ally when the group is so large. Nah, the clan’s small enough that everyone knows everyone else.

What about domesticated animals? Does your clan just go with the usual farm animals, or do they have something more exotic? A few dragons have familiars they’ve befriended on their travels, though most of these familiars aren’t incorporated into the lore because I can’t fathom a way for them to keep everyone alive. Basically, this is a dragon clan, which is for dragons.

A community, especially a large one, needs a steady and reliable source of food. Where does you clan get its food? If they’re hunter-gatherers, what do they do when they can’t find anything? The clan scours the land for food on a regular basis - hunter-gatherers, in other words. When the land is scarce they live with it, Plague lands aren’t exactly known for an abundance of life. Occasionally the bee faes will steal food from other clans, but don’t let anyone know that, shh.

What is the local food like? Do your dragons have a penchant for spices? Or perhaps they enjoy sugar more. Also, there’s also the question of how they eat. What sort of eating utensils do they use? Some cultures have something like rice, noodles, or bread, and then have the side dishes out so everyone can pick what they want and how much they want. Some cultures just give everyone the same thing. What about your clan? In case it wasn’t already clear, this is a highly naturalistic clan. Why would the dragons use utensils. Regardless, welcome to Plague, most of the food sucks compared to basically any other flight’s standard. They eat whatever they can.

What does your clan’s territory look like? Prior to the move, the “territory” was this section of land with a whole lotta nothing special about except rocks, dirt, dead plants, and more dirt. Nice.

A follow-up to #5: Based on that description, what does your clan produce and export, if they trade at all? Do warriors count? Because they have a sort of mercenary training service.

If they don’t trade, then how does your clan earn money? Tourism? Money? Who needs money?

If they do trade, where are a few trade routes? What is this “trading” thing of which you speak?

What’s fashionable in your clan? Talk about the clothing, hairstyles, makeup, accessories, ect. Azurite, Solar, and Obsidian were the first Coliseum team I ever trained up so I threw birdskulls on them. I won a black cloak from a raffle a while back and threw it on Schism because that dragon reaps the souls of Mire enemies. In all honesty, though, everyone runs around nude because why on earth would they need clothing. (It’s starting to occur to me that this questionnaire was probably meant for clans with humanizations....) The only exception here is Drosera, because Wasteland air burns the eyes of any dragon who’s used to some of the cleanest air in Sornieth.

What are your clan’s more unique social rules? You do your job, you don’t make trouble, you’re good. If lack of strict social rules counts as a rule, ta-da. In all honesty the clan might as well be an anarchy.

What sort of symbolism is present in the clan? (For example, red roses=romance, 4-leaf clover=luck, swan=grace and beauty, ect.) Why? Does the birdskull thing count?

We’ve talked a bunch about what the dragons think about beastclan, but what about the other way around? What would each of the beastclans think about your clan? The beastclans probably wouldn’t care. The groups don’t overlap.

Talk about the clan’s social organization. It doesn’t have to all be about social classes! Organization? What organization? Again, they basically just run around doing their own thing, and as long as no one picks a fight it’s all good.

What about family? Are they nuclear (husband, wife, children) or extended (several generations in one home)? Something else? As far as blood relations go, there’s two families in the clan: Maelstrom and Lapilli + their offspring Chalcedony and Riptide, then Azurite and Obsidian + Kronos. Since Azurite is Maelstrom and Lapilli’s unofficial adoptee, Kronos might as well be a grandchild. The whole clan is one big happy family, though, blood relations or not. Because to heck with DNA determining familial bonds.

Are there any special customs or traditions? Exaltees are usually sent off with some kind of trinket from their training, a good luck charm of sorts. I don’t think the Mire is involved since I’m not sure exactly where it is, but if it’s anywhere near Plague lands, Schism has a small hoard of podid claws for hapless trainees.

ART. LITERATURE. Are there artists or writers? What sort of things do they create? Realistic works, or more fantastical/abstract things? Apocrypha has taken to writing things down on occasion. Nothing special, just little scribbles on nearby rocks, but it helps with memorization. Maybe someday this will grow into something more than a penchant, since keeping records is vital to the growth of culture.... Solar and Drosera also know how to write due to knowledge gained from outside Plague lands. Solar doesn’t make use of it much nowadays but is more than happy to pass it on to anyone willing to learn, whereas Drosera used it to document her woes. Various dragons have also taken up drawing, to some extent, either as a way to pass the time or in the creation of maps.

Follow up to #16: What materials do they use? (Do the writers carve into tablets? Do they use brushes, quills, or pens? If they write, what do they write on? Where do they get these materials? (For example, there are several territories that can’t possibly have enough trees for everyone to have access to paper. They’d have to import or steal it.) Continuing from #17, Apocrypha’s current method of note-taking is scribbling random marks on the ground or carving things into trees or rocks. Solar can write, having picked up the knowledge from his time in the Starfall Isles. Nonetheless, leaving one’s mark on nature isn’t terribly effective, especially since the clan moves every other day. Once they settle down this may change.

What are your clan’s values? What’s considered “good” and what’s considered “bad”? Take what you need, and don’t antagonize others without good cause. But if others start the fight, don’t hold back. Peace isn’t strictly enforced (which would be the opposite of peace, really); it just so happens that the dragons get along, creating a fairly docile and even easygoing atmosphere where anyone is welcome if they can find a place for themselves. Scarce resources have encouraged not competition but cooperation. Conflicts are worked out with calm discussion whenever possible, and even minor bouts of antagonism are given some leeway - if that wasn’t the case, the bee Faes would’ve been killed off at the first opportunity. But major fights? If someone tries to start an uprising or deprive the clan of resources? That will not be tolerated and they will fight back by any means necessary. Peaceful =/= pushover.

RELIGION. Okay, seeing as the gods irrefutably exist, most clans worship one or more of the elemental deities. However, religion will differ. How does your clan interpret the deities? How do they practice their religion? Are there religious festivals or holidays? Do they pray often, or do they only seek the divines in dire situations? The Plaguebringer was the stuff of legend until Obsidian came along. Obsidian relayed tales of victory and peril, then explained an exalting system common to many other clans. As a result, [the clan] now helps train warriors for Plaguebringer’s army, and they’ve probably built up a small reputation for it. That said, the exaltee training system is mostly in place because it’s something for everyone to work towards. It gives the clan a sense of purpose beyond “yeah we exist and live here and that’s about it.” This has turned into some level of devotion to Plaguebringer, but not to the point of organized religion. It should be noted that the Riot of Rot riles up clans all over the Scarred Wasteland, resulting in a sick jubilation and strengthened devotion to Plaguebringer. To outsiders, it seems like the entire flight is overwhelmed with religious fever. Any dragon who’s familiar with the Wasteland, however, would say that it is but increased fervor no more intense than any other flight’s pride during their respective holiday. It just so happens that Plague has a reputation for being brutal, so their celebrations seem particularly intense. And then there’s the screams that any clan near the Wyrmwound hears on a regular basis but especially during the Riot of Rot, but we don’t talk about that. No one can tell the difference between fear and excitement when you only have shrieking to go by, anyway. The point is, [this clan] is no exception. And yes, I’m saying the clan has been around much longer than three months (which is how long I’ve been playing Flight Rising), even three years because all things considered that wouldn’t make any sense.* Basically, the clan’s been through its fair share of Riots, and every single time, they repeat their pledge to serve Plaguebringer’s neverending quest for dominance. (I’ll definitely revisit this when October rolls around....)

What are the luxury items? Why are they so expensive/rare? Once again it bears repeating that the dragons have no use for items they don’t need.

Long story short, I was trying to keep this sideblog separate from my main when I started out, but as it turns out that was unnecessary and just made things really awkward (for me, at least).

I don’t have the patience to give this blog a purge, so it’ll be used as an archive. My new sideblog will use the same url, and I’ll post a link as soon as it’s set up!

In the mean time, my main blog is agenderlapis (NOT scribbles, I’ll be deleting that account shortly). Also, here’s an unsolicited recommendation to the FR blogs I was following (or at least the active ones):
