A friend of mine is attending a fetish conference. And, amidst all the fetishes that are, frankly, alien to me, it was refreshing to see something dear and familiar. My joy quickly faded, however, when I reached the bottom half of the abstract above. When a hypnotist is this blatantly dishonest, I wouldn’t trust him with my phone number, let alone my unconscious mind.

“95% of the population will easily go into hypnosis”. 

This is almost certainly an anecdotal summation. It rings true with my experience of one-on-one sessions; but decidedly false with a group session. One-size-fits-all inductions rarely manage to pull in a majority of an audience. There are two main reasons for this:

Different people respond best to different suggestions. The initial conversation with a sub in a one-on-one (sometimes called a “pre-talk”) often suggests a preferred induction or a variation of an induction. And even with a fairly effective “vanilla” induction, there’s still another problem:

Different people enter trance at different rates. Some will drop at the mere suggestion of hypnosis thanks to the placebo effect Some will find themselves relaxing and feeling fascinated, then might feel uncomfortable and jolt themselves out. In a one-on-one session, a tist can respond to the sub’s responses. He can surmise (or even ask) how the sub is feeling and what he’s experiencing, and guide him from there. A recording or a tist in a group session cannot do that. Think of how effective a GPS would be at directing you to a destination if it didn’t know where you are at any moment

“Deeper trances are experienced when the hypnotic subjects have good memorization, concentration, and visualization skills and are submissive, creative and imaginative.”  

Visualization is not a required skill. Although there’s a fair amount of pseudoscience in NLP, the notion of a “preferred representational system” does seem to hold for some subs. Simply put, some have an easier time remembering or constructing visual experiences. Some - auditory experiences. Some - kinesthetic (touch, taste, smell).

Submissiveness is also not required. I’ve had about the same success and failure rate with dominant subjects (alpha subs) as with submissive ones. While the nature of the suggestions given under hypnosis may vary depending on the dominance/submissiveness of a subject, the ability of a subject to reach hypnosis does not. It does help to vary the language of the induction to leverage the dominance or the submissiveness of a subject, but again, the inability to do this is a fault of the group induction approach, not of the hypnotic process itself.

“The other 5%, who cannot be hypnotized, have very short attention spans and lower I.Q.s; tend to focus on the past or the future rather than the present; are overly critical, and have great difficulty letting themselves go.”

This is the most infuriating lie about hypnosis I have seen. Unfortunately, it’s tragically pervasive for reasons that will soon become clear. Let’s unpack.

“The other 5%…” - we have already established that in a large group, the odds of 95% going under are quite slim. If you have a hard time believing that, go to a stage hypnosis show and see what percentage of the audience who begin the initial volunteer selection process end up receiving suggestions on stage.

“…who cannot be hypnotized…” I have yet to meet such a person. Some people reach different levels of trance. A few people take more time and familiarity with the hypnotist than most. Obviously, this kind of time and familiarity cannot be offered in a group session, but the lie is more insidious than that. Thinly veiled within the words is the implication that if you are not hypnotized within this group session, then you cannot be hypnotized. To me, telling people they cannot be hypnotized based on one session is a kind of abuse. I’ve lost count of the subs I’ve met who told me they “cannot be hypnotized” or are “hard” to trance because they didn’t go under before. All it took was a bit of personal attention and, for a few, an additional time commitment, and all such subs have experienced hypnotic trance. A few of those who reach trance may still not obey erotic suggestions, due to internal resistance or other factors. But if a sub claims to be unhypnotizable, the most likely outcome is that he has encountered an asshole “hypnotist” like this one. “…have very short attention spans and lower I.Q.s; tend to focus on the past or the future rather than the present; are overly critical, and have great difficulty letting themselves go.”

This is a variation on the Emperor’s New Clothes tale. If you don’t go under, you must be a deeply flawed or broken person. This creates an incentive for those who don’t find themselves experiencing hypnosis to at least play along. Playing along doesn’t just validate the hypnotist’s ability - seeing others appear to go under makes one more likely to go under himself. But lying about hypnosis is never justified, even when it is helpful to the tist’s and sub’s desired ends.

Let’s be clear:

Failure to achieve sufficiently trance is never a subject’s fault. It may be the fault of a hypnotist who has not taken the time or made the effort to get to know the sub or learn a variety of approaches to try when others fail. It may be unconscious resistance on the sub’s part, over which he has no control. And while an exceedingly small fraction of the population may struggle to create any constructed experiences, they should never be insulted for the way their mind works.

“Wait boss! You are not meant to be here yet.“ He stood there in shock, one hand still cooking and the other loose by his rock hard core.

“I was cooking you breakfast, it felt right ya know?” He found it odd, he had never wanted to cook for his roommate before despite him asking lots of times, but suddenly it felt like the best thing to do.

“When did you put that cap on?” I say to him.

“This morning, for some reason it just feels so good to wear it, plus if I take off my shirt I got to put something else on right?”

What do you mean WAKE UP  I am already awake dude!

You said you were gonna try and hypnotize me and as I told you it didn’t work.

What the fuck are you talking about? No shirt? We are by a pool, of course I have no shirt on!

Look down? What the fuck dude, when did you pull down my shorts? You fucking twat. What do you mean Boss? I did it? You told me to do?

Of course I did it Boss! If you told me to.

Delayed reactions are always fun.

The “uhhh I don’t know why I am doing this but it sure does feel good.” Look.

Gotta remember that cap on means jock on.

That means listen and please Boss on. Which means show off on…

Ever since he started talking to Boss online he can’t help but take a cheeky selfie where ever he is. He just knows how happy they make Boss. Making Boss is pretty important to him. Cause if Boss is happy Boss helps him out too!

Soo that’s why he was in the elevator and he took a selfie. Which led to him putting his bag down and taking another one. Then lifting up his shirt and taking another one. Then flexing his arms and taking another one. Before he knew it he had reached the floor he was going to.

Did Boss forget to tell him that the more selfies he takes the more he wants to show off?

He had met Boss while watching a hypnosis show as part of the evening entertainment, both of them were watching the state hypnotist, though it had more of an impact on him then Boss. All he really remembered was hearing some of the most important things he has head in his life. He knows it can’t have been hypnosis because thats bullshit and can only make you cluck like a chicken if you want to. If he thinks real hard he can remember what he heard, it just is part of him, like he knew it all along and he just got reminded about it.

The person sitting next to you, he’s Boss. That means he is your Boss. He is in charge of you and you love it. It makes it so much simpler to let Boss be in charge and making Boss happy makes you happy. Boss always makes sense. Then everything gets fuzzy for a while, then Boss shook him awake.

“You okay dude?”

“Ya Boss! Why wouldn’t I be? I got you with me!” He felt really happy all of a sudden…

“You should head back up to your room. In the morning send me the usual selfie, okay?”

Normal selfie? Huh? Wait… That selfie that he sent Boss every morning to show him his progress and because Boss loved em!
