A little while ago I posted about Bray, my betta that was fighting off dropsy. This fish ceases to amaze me. Nearly 3 and a half weeks after he first pineconed, and he has nearly recovered. His scale no longer stick out and his coloration has returned. Yesterday he was fed his first meal in a long while and he ate happily

It has been 3 weeks since Bray started to pinecone. I lost a number of fish that I recieved from the same person that gave me Bray. Some girls had passed from dropsy, so I wasn't hopeful at all when I noticed Bray wasn't doing well. But I believed it was my duty to try what I could for him. So I cupped him and added a small amount of epsom salt, added a drop of betta revive because it has a little bit of neomycin, and a drop of methylene blue. I have been doing this for him daily for 3 weeks and today I snapped a picture to compare with the one I took the week before. The one on the left is from last week. His swelling has gone down and he appears to be less pineconed. I had expected him dead but he is such a tough little guy that i can't help but feel hopeful. It is still too soon to celebrate but I hope he makesa full recover even though I lack the medication that could help him. Tetracycline would have been better but I can no longer buy it locally. I am not saying that dropsy has a cure. The chances of survival is very slim, so slim that it seems to not exist. I believe that Bray has a strong will to live that is why he has been able to make it this far. You could try the same exact method I did and your betta may or may not make it. I just thought I would share Bray's story. He is the reason I still have hope for his survival and his recovery not because I am unaware of how deadly dropsy is.

This baby betta is a month old. He or she is already showing colors. Soon the little ones will be moved to a different tank. And yes I do try to clean as much of the debris from the tank bottom as I possibly could on a daily basis. But this is done with a small tubing so I don't accidentally syphon the fry out.

Finally i think it is safe to say the very terrible case of fish deaths have ended except for one of my bettas whom is still fighting dropsy for about two weeks now. This is Kuma wani. He isn't very happy with me because I had him a few other boys cupped untill the drip system completes it's cycle. I moved him in a five gallon so he could stretch out his fins. Anyway not sure if i mentioned it here but i had a very bad outbreak of dropsy and internal parasites in my sorority tank and 20 long. There were 2 instances that I recieved free bettas from the same guy and the first time I hadn't quarantined the females properly. I took his word for it, which cost me the lives of my female bettas, my male that shared the sorority tank with them via a divider, and my males that had been exposed to the males that i thought were healthy. I made a very big mistake but I am so relieved that the rest of my boys have taken to general cure and are on their way to being back in tip top shape. All infected tanks have since been cleaned thoroughly and set back up and now one of my 20 long houses my new healthy sorority girls that I quarantined properly this time. And my other 20 long is home to a single male betta 7 cherry shrimps,7 ghost shrimps, and 8 corydoras.

You can also do amazon swords, crypts all types, anubias, and water wisteria. These plants have grown pretty well for me but do even better when you use aquarium ferts or even root tabs. Currently i don't use either but my amazon and hava fern are doing alright. I forgot which accounts on here knows more about planted tanks, otherwise i would refer you to them. And if you like floating plants I would go with anacharis or hornwort. With hornwort if it dies it will be a pain to clean up since it sheds like a pine tree.

I have personally tried doing this with sand but it didn't turn out the way i had hoped. When i went to plant the tank some of the dirt rose up and over the sand and i was never able to keep the surface clear of the dirt. Maybe i did it wrong somehow. If you do go with sand i would suggest using a dark colored sand that would match the dirt you are using. Sorry i wasn't of much help

So I suffered many losses due to a very bad outbreak of dropsy. Some of the fish I got for free weren't quarantined which was my fault for trusting the guy that gave them to me. They looked healthy so i didn't inspect them thoroughly. I lost most of my sorority girls because the dominant female died and the sorority fell apart. I saved up to do a drip system and finally got it made. I have 20 males total, 7 females, and 20 fry that were given to me. I moved 12 of my males to the drip system to free up some of my tanks so I could raise the fry in my 30 gallon flat hex, where my females lived. The cost are as follows: $50 for a four tier shelf, $16.56 for 6 quartz bins 12 of them, $11 for 2 bags of drippers, $5.97 pvc glue, $4.58 for two 10 foot pvc pipes that are 3/4", $2.34 for 6 end caps, $1.68 for 4 tee fittings, and $0.70 for two elbows. I already had the tubing, pump, and ten gallon tank. Total I spent $92.53. If i include the cost of the pump and ten gallon tank, heater, and tubing it would be roughly $140. I still need to buy bio balls, ceramic rings, and filter floss, but for now a simple foam will do. Just felt like sharing. I could get more tanks but I have a small house so this helps to downsize on tanks. I have one 20 long up and running to swap one of the males from the drio system to the tank each month.

So i had this guy in a homemade breeders basket inside my angel fish tank, so he would be in a heated and filtered tank. He was fine the first two days but decided to jump out into the main tank. I was freaked out when i didn't see him in the basket i had assumed the worst had happened to him. Then i spotted him unharmed swimming around in the tank. I observed him over an hour before i recorded this video. Even when feeding the angels, dwarf gourami, and blue gill didn't bother him and he didn't bother them. I am still watching them closely but i believe he will be perfectly fine. I am thinking this peacefulness only worked because of the size of the tank.

I JUST NEED TO RANT A LITTLE! I don't have any hermit crabs myself but it pisses me off to see people who do have them not provide them proper care! It pisses me off even more when they claim to be "trying" to get them in a proper setup for months but still don't even attempt to fix it. Like i understand if you already got the pet and didn't do the research first and you are truely trying to fix it. But what i don't understand is the fact that you know your setup is wrong but you go out and buy even more hermit crabs and rave about how much you love them.

Op I am back again with another one of theses. To explain before I get chewed out, I recently recived 12 bettas for free because the person who was originally selling them wanted them gone. I was given 7 males and 5 females for free. And while I do have tanks available for them it is not yet set up because I was only expecting to get 3 males and five females not 12 bettas in all. And even now some of my females are occupying space in my divded tanks where the three males ,I wanted ,were to because adding all five of the new females to my sorority would crash my cycle if done all at once. And so my males are waiting on this tank I usually use for qt which is a 1.5 gallon divided tank. My home is heated round the clock to keep the unheated tanks at ideal temp, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about filtration except for daily water changes. Prior to water testing I had just given these boys a 100% water change an hour before testing. The readings for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are off the chart. And if you look at the boy in the back he appears to be a cambodian betta right? Wrong. He is so stressed he lost his color. He is supposed to be black. I can't stress enough how much I hate it when people who claim their bettas are fine living in anything less than 2 gallons and that they are healthy because they get their water changed everyday. They are not healthy, the seem healthy. They are not fine, they seem fine. Now I am no expert on the nitrogen cycle but I know enough to know how it affects my fish. Just because they can breath atmospheric air does not mean they are automatically immune to poor water quality. If you are going to or do own bettas the least you could do is educate yourself on the nitrogen cycle rather than denying the fact that you are submitting your helpless fishy friend to a very slow death from prolonged exposure to high ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. I feel bad just keeping these guys this way, but they aren't going to be in here long. Once all my girls go into the sorority these boys will then be moved into the freed up slots. Which include a section in a 30 gallon tank, two slots in a ten gallon, then another ten gallon that is in the process of being cycled.

I know i rarely post anything but I just got this brand of fish food and I like what i see in the ingredients. It is for tropical fish but I will be feeding this to my bettas. It is the perfect size and almost the amount of nutrition as omega one betta pellets. I spent about $3-4 for the tiny omega jar and about $5 for a 3.5 oz jar of ELIVE. I am very happy with this purchase. What is your guy's take on this brand? Should it be put on the list of foods to buy for betta fish? I know omega one and new life spectrum are two of the brands that tops the list so can this place third?

3 days ago I did a food experiment with two of my bettas. For 3 days straight i fed both fish on a strict 6 pellets once a day diet of selected betta pellet brands. Hanabi, the bluish green, was fed only tetra betta min pellets. Jinx, the copper, was fed only 6 pellets of omega one betta pellets. I selected these two since they were of the same size and possibly the same age. They were also fairly new bettas. I had also fasted them before doing the experiment to ensure they both started with an empty stomach. If you look closely you can see that Hanabi is much rounder in the belly area than jinx is. Both photos were taken today at 2 pm so neither of them have been fed, yet Hanabi appears like he was just fed a large meal. The plan was to conduct this experiment for a whole month on a strict feeding scheduale. 6 pellets once a day for 6 days. Sunday fasting. I wanted to see how the foods affect growth, color, and digestion.

I have two marbling bettas but this one i loved because of his white body. I love him even more now.
